I don't even like pizza, and I liked this pizza. Saying a lot! Order ahead online on Tock. Open reservations around noon on Mondays. Easy and quick pickup at a corner dive spot in Fremont. Really solid deep dish style pizza. Not heavy, not too marinara-y, and crispy pepperonis. It was perfect. Highly recommend and worth the wait and anticipation.

Derek is awesome and makes the best detroit-style pizza in town hands down. You could chalk it up to preference too but as a big pizza guy, this guy is it. Moto cooks their crust less so it's much floppier but it is fluffier too so if you like a softer detroit-style crust Moto is good, but Derek cooks it perfect every time where you get that delicate but firm crispy exterior and fluffy interior. Granted I'd say the pepperoni is too salty for my tastes personally, but that's also kinda par for the course for detroit-style as the cheese baked into the crust adds saltiness too.As for me I get the cheese pizza so I can really enjoy the quality of every piece of this, from the crust to the sauce to the cheese. It's so well made it's insane. Almost as crazy as trying to snag one of these as you have to make an appointment through his Tock. Recommend following his IG page and getting notified of new posts as that's how I find out about it.If you want a more accessible pizza I'd recommend Spark Pizza which is probably my favorite pizza joint around Seattle, but you have to trek out to Redmond. They serve neapolitan-inspired, detroit-style, and even NYC style on sundays (only like 20 pies though and people line up).

Not bad, I wish it were crispier and the sauce wasn't so tart but it's a decent detroit style in Seattle.

Such amazing Detroit-style pizza in a city where it's not easy to find Detroit-style pizza. It's not obnoxiously filled with toppings but heftier than a flimsy NY slice. And the cheese crust around the edges, OMG. I highly recommend getting multiple small pizzas because each piece when have more cheesy crust. I also live nearby and love the smell of these pizzas on the days that he's open. When I go in Derek is always so pleasant and friendly as I get my delicious pizzas.

MFD makes the BEST pizza in town. There really is nothing better. The cheese blend and red sauce are the closest I've found to pizzas back in Chicago. The crust is wonderfully caramelized and crispy. You must eat the corner slices first! His pizzas are not available daily, but you can order through tock or DM him on Instagram. He's a really cool guy, so if pizzas are sold out via you can DM him and he tries to fit you in. I can't wait until he opens his dine-in place! I'm an MFD purist and will only eat pizzas from here in Seattle.

Update: I decided to give this place another chance as the owner was really nice and thought maybe they had an off day.Anyways, after series of waiting for the right moment, we finally put an order for today for a medium pizza with sausage and jalapenos. This time, the pizza was already done by the time I got there and it wasn't scorching hot either. However when I opened it, it surprisingly look smaller than my first pizza! And they cut it to 6 smaller pieces now! The crust has the added cheese so it was extra crispy and has a cheesy flavor. I'm not sure if it's the combination I chose was it was extra salty for my taste. Overall, definitely better than my first time but with the effort I had to put in to place an order and to get to the place, it's not worth it for me. It's still a good pizza. Just not good enough for me to go out of my way to get it

The "Detroit" pizza for us. Crunchy but soft crust with just the right amount of chew. Pure deliciousness. Worth the hassle of having to constantly check whether Derek is taking orders for that week; he makes them at his whim. The only thing we didn't love was the hint of wine in the marinara/sauce. Best of the three (technically four) Detroit-style pizzas we tried.

Speechless. Please do yourself a favor and order a pizza from My Friend Derek's. Do it. It's not your typical thin-crust pizza, but nonetheless, this has (so far) been hands-down the best pizza in the city. And I do love my pizza. PRO TIP: PLEASE READ -- address is 3601 Woodland Park Ave, not 3632 Woodland Park. My wife and I ordered:1. A large pizza with sausage, mushrooms, and ton of garlic (the garlic was amazing, I will stress this again)2. Cheesy jalapeño breadJust a disclaimer, the bread and pizza dough resembles more of a focaccia bread rather than a crust, but I am definitely not complaining about that. But it's only fair to mention that before I dive into my pizza analysis. The cheesy jalapeño bread was amazing. Just for an extra few bucks, the jalapeño slices elevate the cheesy bread to a whole new level. It adds a great crunchy punch to the bread, and the bread was so soft and cheesy (I mean, duh, cheesy bread), and it served as a fantastic and cheesy appetizer. The pizza itself was delicious. Again, please keep in mind that the pizza itself was more like a focaccia bread texture, and it was springy and spongy and soft. Definitely not the typical hard or tough crust that you find in your local pizzeria, but wow, it was great, especially when lathered with the toppings. The sauce was great, the toppings were plentiful, and the cheese was super stringy. The char on the outside gave a nice crispy touch to the pizza, and before I knew it, I was unconsciously grabbing for another slice. Please please PLEASE get the GARLIC as a topping, it was so good and prepared like garlic confit. So how much should I order? Let's say that I fasted the entire day just for this moment and I was famished, but I was only able to eat two pieces of bread and two slices of pizza. The large pizza can easily serve 4 people or serve as multiple meals for 2. For two dudes serving up pizza in an apartment-like atmosphere, this was definitely high up there in quality, quantity, and service. I would easily choose this place over a lot of pizzerias out in the city. As their goal is to transform their working space into a restaurant, I will continue to root for them and order another pizza (or 2 or 3) in the near future. I can't wait to go pay a visit when it turns into a restaurant (which, at this rate, I'm sure it will).

i don't know how i haven't reviewed mfd before. it. is. the. best. not only is derek a delight, but the pizza he makes is...out of this world. i went to detroit a couple months ago and even famous 'buddy's pizza' doesn't compare to derek's detroit-style pizza. i usually like pizzas crazy cheesy but i don't even need that here. try them all! you won't regret ordering a single one. (note: 2-3 pieces per person is a serving. i could POSSIBLY stuff 4, but i'd be dying. and i like to eat haha)how to get pizza: follow his ig or his tock and once time slots are added, you can decide which pizza to get and what time you'll pick it up. pay on the website, drive to his spot, and it'll be waiting for you at your chosen time!

A great little place to get some indulgent Detroit style pizza in Fremont. It can be a little tricky to hit the ordering timing just right and you'll have to plan ahead several days at least as the shop is only open a couple nights a week. Ordering was easy once we figured out the system and pickup was fast and simple. A large pizza and cheesy breadstick were more than enough for 4 people. The crust was extra crispy and tasty, I loved the corners. Very cheesy with a tasty sauce. The cheesy breadsticks were yummy and extra garlicky. Definitely some effort to procure, but a thing to try if you are in the neighborhood.
