To celebrate a technical interview that went exceptionally well today I treated myself to a dinner at my local izakaya. For those not in the know an izakaya is a Japanese restaurant that serves drinks and snacks (essentially a pub).I sat down at the sparsely populated sushi bar and tucked into a meal of tonkatsu ramen, as well as ikura (salmon roe) and unagi (fresh water eal) nigiri (sushi ingredients on rice). I got to talking with the person next to me as well as the sushi chef and another old timer at the sushi bar.The person next to me I would come to find out was a veteran of the US Navy and had been stationed twice in Japan. I had also been stationed in Japan and had traveled back to Japan as a civilian so we got to talking. The veteran seated next to me and I exchanged stories about our favorite places and meals in Japan. The old timer at the sushi bar and the sushi chef listened with interest while we chatted. When I got up to leave I was told that both my bill and the bill of my veteran companion had been paid. The old timer at the sushi bar, a Japanese American revealed that he had served in the US Army during 1958 a time of relative peace. He had paid for our tabs because he wanted to honor our service.Twenty years ago I was just several months out of the Marines and traveling to Montana to attend my Grandmother's funeral. A random person on the street in the town of Bozeman stopped me on the sidewalk and said "By any chance are you a former Marine?". At that point in time I still sported the hair cut and I suppose the demeanor. He bought me a drink in the local watering hole. That is the only other time someone has tried to honor me for my service.I do not make frequent references to my military service. I thanked the gentleman at the sushi bar for his time serving our country and for his gesture. Tonight, I went home humbled, and for once willing to claim my title as one of "the few and the proud".Thank you Kevin for your gesture and Quentin for your conversation. It was one of the most memorable dining experiences I have had to date.

Incredible food and service, stumbled upon this gem while driving up to Anacortes. Ordered quite a few dishes just so my companion could try the various plates. The tonkotsu ramen was surprising light but still robust and flavorful. The veggie miso ramen was packed with flavor and a refreshing balance of ingredients. Korokke was crispy and fluffy. Takoyaki was a bit on the dark side but taste was good. For those that like authentic Japanese this is it.One tip, they actually carry namazake in small bottle for $12 or so. I rarely see this, so it was a really pleasant surprise; definitely order at least one of these.

Pretty solid choice for sushi and ramen in the Lynnwood area. The actually place itself is not very big but I have to not be seated, even during a dinner rush. Their prices are seem fair as well as their portions. I have not tried a variety of their sushi, but from what I have had (spider rolls, poke, and nigiri) I was pleased. Their ramen was super tasty, and they allow a spicy option for just about anything. Their table service was really good, and they are well staffed and efficient. If you live in Lynnwood or are nearby and are craving ramen and some sushi, this place will hit the spot!

I have come here several times as this is an authentic Japanese restaurant and it is in Lynnwood!Every time I come here, I must have their ramen and beer which are the perfect combo for me. This time we ordered takoyaki, spicy seafood champon, and chicken teriyaki. They were all delicious and satisfying. The staff is always friendly and attentive.I highly recommend getting a pitcher of beer to share if you have 2 or more people who drink beer as it's a good deal. The restaurant is not too big but clean and with Japanese vibe. Parking is easy as there is a parking lot.

I have been here for years but have yet to write a review about it. Service has always been good. Food have always been great. Value has always been very good too. The restaurant is not big, but very neat and tidy with good decor.Today, we came here for lunch. The spicy tuna roll was very good, not too spicy. The tempura combination tasted great, the value was great too for $17.50, and came with a miso soup. The salmon teriyaki lunch combo was great too. Fried oyster curry was tasty as always. Curry udon was very good too, the udon was cooked properly. The tempura green tea was excellent. I haven't had one like this for years. The best kind is when the crust is like cake.Best Japanese restaurant in the Lynnwood area. I love their varieties of dishes, great-tasting food, very good service, and very good value. I will always come back when I crave Japanese food in the area.

My current obsession is the creamy mentaiko udon. The last time I had mentaiko udon this delicious was in hawaii, at a 5 star restaurant! When you start to feel like the creaminess takes over you get a balance of the mentaiko and a kick of spice. I also really appreciate them integrating technology to allow online ordering from their website. Quick and easy!

Lots of tasty options! Love how there's a variety of things from udon, ramen, sushi, to bowls. Each with lots of options and flavor. The Creamy Mentaiko Udon, was so rich in flavor that I want to come back for this asap! The bruce lee roll as different - I love unagi and never had it fried before. Everything looked great and it was hard to make a decision, so I was glad the waiter was super patient with our group. There's so many more things to try, so we are for sure hitting this spot up again in the future.

I'm so sad to post this because the food has always been great here...our dinner last night was so disappointing. We ordered for pick up. We got 2 orders of Ramen. They provided us with less than a cup of broth each & 1 teeny tiny piece of pork. The 2 raw sushi rolls tasted awful & looked old... bummed out.

We came here right when it opened for dinner at 5, and there were already a good amount of people here. Muto Izakaya is located in a strip mall, lighting is pretty ambient and darker. There's a sushi chef and can make you sushi at the bar. We ordered the Creamy Mentaiko Udon, Katsu Curry and the Nigiri A. The creamy mentaiko udon was good, and you'll like it if you like seafood or the taste of it. However, I wish there was more udon to soak up the creamy sauce they had. The Katsu curry was the favorite, crispy katsu, nice curry with rice and a delicious salad with a sesame dressing. There was a lot of curry to rice ratio, wish there was some additional rice. We probably asked for more rice. The nigiri came with assorted fishes like salmon and tuna, nothing too special but was good,Overall, great experience here. Staff and service was good, food came out quickly.
