The dining area's tidy and clean, with different settings to accommodate different sizes of groups. The mural type drawings on the wall made it look so cool and authentic.Servers kept refilling the plates with sooooooo many options for us to grab. The plates all had clear labels so we would what we were going to taste. Tableside service was also quite attentive. We were impressed.Highly recommend the nonalcoholic Er Guo Tou soda. It smelt very close to the traditional Chinese alcoholic yet you won't get drunk with it, but more fun with friends!

This place use to be really good when I first came a few years ago but the food quality has gone down so much since then. The meat was frozen and not fresh unlike other hotpot places, the vegetables did not look like they were washed either. We ate there for around 1.5 hours and we were the only table there yet there seem to only be one worker and we barely had any service. It felt pretty self serve as well. Ambiance: there were a lot of seating and the place seem pretty big.

***Low price warning: $0.40 PER SKEWER***What food is good for the fall season? HOTPOT! There were lines everywhere at all the hotpot places in Chinatown, and my girlfriend and I ended up at Mrs Gu Skewers Hot Pot. It is located at the end of Chinatown (Old part). Food - 5/5Both skewer and hot pot at this place are great! -Skewer: We ordered one beef skewer and chicken wings. They put the right amount of seasoning and they just cooked them right. -- Hot pot: You can order the soup base and meat from the menu. All other skewers are available at the back of the restaurant fridge area). Soup bases are great, we ordered a combo: spicy (Light) & tomato. Service - 5/5 our waitress kept up with our water very well, which is crucial, especially when you are having spicy food. it might be confusing to understand the price of the food in the fridge the first time you are there. Our waitress answered all our questions well.Ambiance - 3/5The environment is fine, similar to all the other restaurants in Chinatown. Price - 5/5No doubt for 5-stars. $0.40 per skewer is the gem of this restaurant. Prices are fair for both hot pot and skewer.

The two of us made reservations for dinner here at 6pm on a Saturday evening but it wasnt necessary as there were plenty of tables to go around. Each ingredient you want to add to your hot pot has two skewer to it. They charge by the stick counts and plates, not by head. You order your broth, meats, drinks, and specialty from your phone. All the other ingredients (veggies, tofu, noodles, etc) are self-serve - they have fridges in the back for you to get. They also have a spice section for you to add your sauces. Felt it was a bit pricey but hot pot was good. It is modern inside. A lot of it is self service which we didnt mind.

This place is underrated! Such a great skewers and hot pot place at one end of Chinatown. The ambience is fun and colorful and gives it the vibe of eating street food, but with the comfort and cleanliness of a restaurant. It's easy to order using the QR code on the table. Everyone at the table can scan the QR code and add to the same cart using their own phones! It's great because you can submit an order and then add more later as you're eating. Very fast and convenient. I recommend ordering from the variety of barbequed skewers from your phone, as well as the half and half hot pot. We chose mild for one of the hotpot spice levels, and wow the spice really got me! It felt more like medium spice but I enjoyed it. The other thing to order on your phone is the trays of sliced meat. I think we ordered 1 tray of beef. The self serve part is in the back of the restaurant where the refrigerators are. There are a variety of vegetables and protein offerings like meat balls and fish balls, which mostly come on a skewer, so you could get 1 of each thing that you want to try! I like this system because you don't have to commit to a whole tray of one item and you can grab as much as you want or need. There aren't too many vegetable offerings (a few greens like bok choy and mushrooms mostly) but it does help with making the decisions easy!Overall my highlight was the bbq skewers! And the ambience is very cute and spacious. It's clean and comfortable too.

You enter, get seated, pick your soup, go to the sause area ans makw your dipping sause, then grab a plate and fill it with skewers, meat, veggies, and so on. There's tons of meat, veggies, seafood, and noodle options. Each skewers is about 45 cents and each plate is different price base on color. Very interesting concept only I can't imagine how much wast eof skewers it is and if they reuse I wish it's metal skewers instead of wooden. The price adds quickly but fun group dining experience. For a hot pot experience I'd rather have a regular hotpot experience. This gets pretty annoying with the sticks poking out. The medium is VERY spicy but I did like it. Overall I rather go to an all you can eat hotpot but an interesting experience none the less.

It has been years since I have had a good Hot Pot. Being Half Chinese, my Hot Pot expectations are a little high. I was in Chicago on vacation and my sister said let's do Mrs Gu. It was decently good I will admit. The Soup base was spicy and full of flavor plus on top of that, the variety of ingredients they had to go with the soup was a fair amount. Back home in my country, this was more steamboat than Hot Pot however, it was still really good. I enjoyed every bit of the fish balls and the tofu skin plus the meat sticks. Definitely will come back.

A fun and relaxed hot pot place in Chicago's Chinatown. Everything is good. The beef with parsley skewers were just wonderful. The dumplings delicious. And the overall selections -- mussels, tripe, chicken, lamb, cabbage, mushrooms, corn, broccoli, and much more -- offer plenty of choices for the adventurous and the less so. A huge variety of items with which to craft your own dipping sauce. Unlike many Chinatown locations they have a bar with wine and spirits. The service was prompt and friendly. It is fairly far south on Wentworth but worth the walk.

The food was okay, personally there wasn't anything that I would re-order. The service was not the best in my opinion. I would assume if I came in with a party of 5+ that they would let me know prior that there was going to be automatic gratuity, however she didn't let know until after I got the bill (which didnt state any rule for a "big party"). Secondly, she hardly checked up on the table until the last 5 mins before we were about to leave. The environment was nice, but the baby seat was dirty.
