Mr.Molcajetes

I came in today (Saturday) after work around 10:30ish pm (we work in the restaurant industry and decided here because of the reviews!!)Me and the gf Get seated... while we sit and wait for the waitress next door is a club and that club security is just hanging in the restaurant just talking to what seems like the owner ?? One of the girl security screams randomly twice... separate times..really loud. They talk loudly and laugh...like okay I get it y'all wanna talk and have a good time messing around but im trying to enjoy my time with my gf at your restaurant...The girl and guy security leave and then come back then they leave again and come back, walk to the back into the kitchen like they own the place to continue laughing and messing around in the back with the owner and cook where food is getting cooked....I work in a kitchen too so I thought that was a big no-no for the owner who did not care as he continued laughing. and I noticed that it's super chilly inside and for some reason they kept the front door propped open....I guess I didn't mind being cold and loud while we wait to order The waitress takes our drink order and we decided on a Molcajete. You have an option of steak, chicken or shrimp and lastly the mix. the mix didn't specified if it came with all three proteins we just assumed. Before Me and my gf ordered the mix Molcajete I asked the waitress if the mix came with all three steak, chicken and shrimp.. she replied yes and we decided to order it.We wait a bit finally got our Molcajete and we started to dig in. The pool of green sauce is tasty couldn't really see the meat until we started to dig in and around the cheese.I noticed two things. We didn't get chicken and the shrimp was whole Not an issue with the shrimp but do you really want your customers eating shrimp crap?? The shrimp wasn't deveined. I was disgusted. My gf said she wasn't letting it go to waste..it was $32 not $30 for shrimp and steak...no chicken...it would of been cheaper just getting one protein. I wait for her to come check on us...she didn't not till I caught her attention I asked "oh does this come with chicken" she said "no" and then I knew we got bamboozled lol Will I come back ? No.Was it worth it???? No.I don't recommend this place to anyone tbh.I'd rather spend those $50 at McDonald's Save yourself and go somewhere else ‍And to Mr.Molcajetes respectfully you have a lot to work on with your staff, menus and who you have in your restaurant.

Unbelievably delicious! We got the veggie burrito and it was incredible. The chef was personable and friendly. I really enjoyed this place.

Here we are close to 10PM on a Wednesday evening. Looking for some good food...we zoomed past Mr. Molcajetes! That neon said OPEN so I made a quick u-turn and headed back to the restaurant. We, myself and 2 adult children we pleasantly greeted by the owner and his wife. He made some suggestions on the best items on the menu. We agreed to try his suggestions. Everything made fresh & made to order. We got steak taco dinner, veggie burrito, and veggie bowl with extra jalapeñosAs a senior, I get a discount! WHAT???!!! We also received a complimentary mug (crazy awesome)We took our order to go and headed home. The food was Fabulous! The portion size is generous! What a great place that serves awesome food and such great service!!!My new local food joint!I believe is supporting local businesses and this is our new favorite restaurantThey have a wide variety of dishes on the menu and can't wait to try them all!!!Please support this family owned restaurant, you won't be disappointed. Note- while waiting for our food we notice the decor and the ambiance of the restaurant. If it weren't so late and if we weren't so tired we would've chosen to dine in.

Tried this new restaurant on Friday night. Great food and great service. It's BYOB and they have delicious homemade margarita mix. Food was tasty. The aguacate relleno isn't something we'd normally try but the owner recommended it and it was absolutely the highlight. We also really liked the enchiladas and molcajete mixta we ordered. Everything was very tasty. Staff was very friendly and helpful and music was great too.Absolutely returning soon. Great addition to the neighborhood.

This place is delicious! I've probably gained north of +5lbs since I discovered the Burrito Suizo, OMFG, the meat just melts in your mouth, and the way they season there Carne Asada is phenomenal. Oh, I also suggest to get Chorizo in with the carne asada, your mouth will be happy! I've tried the street tacos as well, they're amazing also, the meats the star, and that's always a welcome plus.Although they're new to this location, they've been serving Mexican food in Chicago since 1996, and let me tell you, when a restaurant makes it through all those difficult times, it's because the food is fantastic, and this rings true here at Mr Molcajetes as well.The staff is helpful and very nice, they make you feel welcome when you dine in, the prices are fair, food comes out hot and fast everytime I've been there. If you love Mexican food, you've got to give this place a shot.

Highly recommend, best carne asadas I've had! The owner is wonderful, check them out!

This was my "burrito bowl". There's not many places you can go to, order a burrito bowl and not get it in a crispy tortilla bowl. But it's not mentioned in the menu so I guess that's a pass. But the menu does say it comes with sour cream (not included) and beans (not included). I guess that brown mush is guac? But what really ruined it is the steak. Maybe some of the worst steak I have ever had at a Mexican restaurant. 30% of it was inedible fat.

Supporting a small business is very important to me. It's so easy to love Mr. Molcajetes because the food is always delicious and authentic and made with love! Such a comfortable atmosphere, and draws in the neighborhood. Excellent customer service, I'm so happy to see the success of this place it's well earned and deserved!

After hitting the gym, stumbled upon this restaurant and I quickly opened the Yelp app and the pictures of the food drew me inside. The waitress was super nice and explained what a molcajete was and I went for it. The organic molcajete was sizzling with hot bubbles-it almost looked like green lava and you can almost taste the aroma coming from the pot. The sauce was very nicely made and the cheese started melting right in front of our eyes.I couldn't help it anymore, so I dove right into the steamy pot. It was very delicious and so were the nachos. I will definitely come back for brunch and try their breakfasts.
