Monarch Ocean Pub

I no longer live in San Diego proper (out in the valley now) but sometimes I make the long drive out to Monarch. Drinks are well made, you can't beat the view, the seating is so comfortable and there's good space, food is delicious! Appetizers can be a bit small (so don't think you can order one and be full; they're truly appetizers and you can have a meal after!) My only two complaints I'm not knocking them for:*It's a popular spot so when it gets busy it gets LOUD. I'm sensitive to this so I like to go during off-peak hours. For those of you that like a lively poppin spot this is going to be perfect! It's always such a fun vibe when it's busy. *Parking in the garage here is only for an hour so if you want to stay longer (which you totally do) skip the close garage and opt to walk just a tad. I think the garage before this one has two hours but don't quote me!

Such a cute place for happy hour, but be warned - come early in small groups or be prepared to wait. I don't remember much of what we got for food, but they were definitely tasty. The real win here is the amount of care put into each drink on the specialty cocktail list, which isn't part of happy hour, but they were so tasty I'd gladly pay full price for them again and again. The mai tai with POG foam was one of the best drinks I've ever had in my life. Of course, the ocean views are absolutely gorgeous. We came during the colder season, but I can only imagine how gorgeous it is now that it's summer. Definitely on the list of places I need to make my way back to!

ambiance = ocean sunset view, can't beat that rate if 10 out of 5I asked the manager, a big friendly guy who looked like Grizzley Adams, and seemed to know every single customer by first name. He even acknowledged one by their first name by reciting what I found out was nightly ode to the view. That was cool. I asked him if he was always this cool, and he said they strive to be.Food= I 'd have to give it unfair rating because it was happy hour, and portions were small. If the non happy hour portions were this small I would not be happy. The couple next to us ordered the chicken bowl with humus. That was a huge amount of food. The dessert was huge too. I 'd rate food a 2.1 due to small portion, but again an unfair rating.SERVICE -= hard to give a fair rating because the place was so crowded! The staff was doing their best to keep up. They were very friendly. But when place is so crowded you can only do the best you can do. Right ? 3.1 rating out of five.Seems like the place to go to in Del Mar, While walking around the plaza most of the other places seemed empty. There are a lot of good places in the same location. El Fornio is good. Pacifica Grill is good. I feel bad that one place is taking most of the business.

Great location for a fun atmosphere to get a drink and some great apps. It can get loud at times. We like hanging out at the patio to take in the beautiful Del Mar scenery. They have food and drinks to go and it is prompt.

Came with friends for a quick lunch. Easy parking in the deck or you can find street parking. Place is open and beautiful with ocean views. Staff was friendly once we sat. Plenty of items to choose from. Opted for the pork belly chowder which was delicious while we shared a pear salad, brussel sprouts, and ceviche. Drinks were fun and tasty. Definitely a fun vibe.

Came here for drinks and light snacks and this place did not disappoint. We ordered the ceviche and several drinks here. We had the dragonfruit margarita, Pineapple Express, and smoke on the watermelon. Would highly recommend the dragon fruit margarita and the Pineapple Express! The ceviche was surprisingly good and they serve really big shrimp bites here lol! We also ordered the croquette and those were very delicious too!!This place is located on the second floor and there is parking garage. The first hour is free! The views here are also beautiful since it overlooks the ocean.

Great spot for a happy hour with a nice selection of drinks and food. Note: for happy hour there are no cocktail specials only wine and beer. A bit expensive but you can't beat the view!

Went into Monarch for a bite to eat while in San Diego the other week and really enjoyed the atmosphere at Monarch Ocean Pub. There is a lot of natural light, overlooks the ocean and town, and they have TV's if you're a sports person. A great location for any occasion!The Spicy Chicken sandwich was delicious, I got a side salad with it and was a big fan of the sandwich and salad. I'm a spice lover and didn't think it was very spicy but don't take my word for that. We also got the Applewood Bacon Burger and thought it was great! Not pictured is the Yellowfin Tuna Poke that was my favorite item!!

I've had the food before and it was good. The service from bartenders is always up to par. The ambience is upscale, rooftop sports bar with lots of outdoor space and bars. I love going for the views but that definitely comes with a price...all cocktails at $17

Fun crowd, great venue with a beautiful ocean view, but the bar service is consistently rude and inattentive. the food is good, not great.
