Everything I was looking for preparing an Italian meal. Sun Dried Tomatoes , Extra Virgin Italian Olive Oil, Pistachio Cream, and Anchovies. Great selection of wine, cheeses, meats, pastas, sauces, etc. Reasonable prices and excellent customer service and satisfaction. Another hidden treasure within Little Italy!

So I have heard so much about this place from other airline crew members so I thought I would try it. I have been to other Italian delis across the country, who doesn't love a great piled high Italian sub! Mona Lisa is a small Italian grocery with a deli. Place is tight and small but clean and everyone is friendly. Now onto the sandwich. First off I was a little or a lot disappointed that they didn't have any true Italian sub staples. I was looking forward to a chicken cutlet sub, maybe some broccoli rabe on it. Much like you would find at Monica's in Boston. None of that. All cold sandwiches that I saw. Their subs did include Italian meats and stuff but just didn't really resemble a true Italian sandwich shop. I ordered the Deluxe Sub. It was their most popular. You got a choice of bread and I opted for the torpedo roll. The sub had mortadella, dry salami, ham and provolone. I opted to have everything in it which was mayo shredded lettuce I think onion and oil and vinegar. I expected it to be piled high and although it was not a skimpy sandwich it also wasn't a two meal type of thing. It was well balanced and the meat was of good quality. The bread was soft and had good chew on it. You could taste all of the ingredients and not overpowered so that was a plus. Look it was a good sandwich just not what I expected out of a famous Italian sandwich shop. I do think most people would be super happy with this place but I personally think you get the same quality and sandwich at Jersey Mikes for a lot less.

GROCERY SIDE. Keep scrolling if you're look for restaurant specific reviews. For some background - my family has been coming here since before I was born. That is almost 40 years at this point. That being said, we obviously love getting some of our groceries from here but we have come here less throughout the years because it is a constant battle of the meats. We always want the lunch meats to be very thin ESPECIALLY the prosciutto. When they slice it thick it is very hard and not as good. That being said, I called in an order here the other day. Two sandwiches (amazing), some sausage, and a half a pound of prosciutto SLICED THIN. I feel like I'm in a sitcom with how many times I need to say it. The lady cashier on the phone tells me, "it is ALWAYS sliced thin." I tell her, "it is NOT which is why I am asking." Of course this lady does not put it down on the ticket so when I pick up my groceries...we already know this is not thin. There is nothing more heartbreaking than knowing the food you just bought will be thrown in the trash because no one wants to eat it. I'm dead serious. That's how much of a difference it makes to us.Please listen to the customer requests, it really makes you look like a child and ignorant now that all is said and done.FYI all of the people who work behind the deli counter are super nice. This was DEFINITELY the cashier working on 7/24 around 12pm - I wish I had her name.Sincerely,A disappointed customer who will be back for sandwiches only

I'm a big sandwich guy, and was craving one while I was in SD for work recently. I had heard a lot of people recommend Mona Lisa for a good sub. This place did not disappoint! It's a classic Italian deli where you can buy an assortment of things. They had a ton of sandwich options at a reasonable price. Service was great! Would highly recommend if you are in SD.

Review for Deli Counter****Stopped in and picked up a #8 - Deluxe Sub on a Torpedo with all the fixings. This legit 12 inch sandwich (yes I measured it) was so fresh and awesome I could not believe it only cost $10.75. At any chain sandwich place I pay over $13 for a mediocre 8 inch. I'd drive 20 miles for this sandwich. It was crowded but when you walk in just grab a number from the old school number machine and when they call you they make it fresh and hand it to you. The store also carries a lot of good stuff and I actually bought a pizza dough for $2.50 and some in-house made sausage for a pizza at home. You can also order from their web site if you want to avoid a little wait. Great deli! Will try the attached restaurant next time.

We drove down to San Diego for a day and ended up in the city's Little Italy section. It was about 2pm and we were starving mad. A friend recommended Mona Lisa's sandwiches. She was right. The sandwiches here are excellent! I had the eggplant and mozzarella sandwich. The eggplant was grilled with terrific tasting red sauce. The mozzarella cheese was deliciously melted on top of the eggplant and encased in a slightly crunchy sub-bun. At first I was thinking; Wow! A large sandwich. After the first bite, I was truly enjoying the hearty red sauce. All of the sudden my sandwich was gone. Yum! For lunch, we ordered at the counter, took our number to our table, and our order was delivered within ten minutes. The restaurant is large and appears to be an original institution here in San Diego. Think, family owned, mid-century Italian eatery with red-table cloth. The meals here are traditional- style Italian. I will try the pasta dishes next time. Excellent!

This review is for the Deli.We love to get subs to go. I suggest calling ahead as they get very busy! We got a Caprese and an Imported Prosciutto with Provolone (extra $1.25 for cheese or avocado). The deli also has salads you can get as sides, including pasta, octopus, and seafood, as well as olives, stuffed peppers, mushrooms, and more. You can also buy deli meat cheese and fresh pasta by the lb. The deli is a fully stocked Italian market that sells lots of imported goods. You can also buy their fresh pasta sauce, ricotta, and canolli filling.
