menu & ordering confusion... mistakes were made! then Desiree. to save the day!the food was amazing! catfish is crispy and delish! whole wings omg wtf! these are not only the best wings i have had in phx but pretty sure the best chicken as well, light and crunchy wow so good its great! who the heck eats these without sauce? the sauce is amazing but they do stand on there own delicious!now thats out of the way lets talk sides. WTF! so many, so good, wow! to start: the okra great crispy and not slimy at all ! amazing. the mac n cheese: so good with all the cheeses and baked bits (pasta could be a bit more aldente' to hold up more ) but omg! is it good. mashes potato's n gravy :yummy.and then we get to the part where i fall in love.... sweet potato and the peach cobbler... i am eating hot pie and its 110 outside and i don't care! its so good and perfectly not over sweet. texture is amazing.your food is 100 times too good for mass produced sauce packs, i would throw those out before your real sauce figures it out and you have a incident...i'll be back....... alotambiance: very clean but a bit confusing layout. why waste that amazing neon sign in the back? the 4 westernmost can lights in -the ceiling are ruining the TVs with reflections, the flickering light and fan combo on the ordering side is enough to give you a stroke if seated where you can see it, but i would be happy if it was my last meal so theres that...side note: drinks could maybe offer some unsweetened options like waterloo sparking water, orange and tropical flavors , they go great with your food and allow your foods amazing flavor to shine through.

Let me start with Deserie up front is a rock star. Great attitude and very nice. We ordered the following:Fried Chicken: good but dryFried Catfish: OK but also very dryMac and Cheese: ExcellentHush Puppies: Good but dryFried Okra: Very Good Shoestring Fries: Frozen potatoes never goodCornbread: OK but very dryIt seemed like everything fried was cooked a little too long making it dry. Both bread items tasted like water was used instead of milk, cream or buttermilk also making them very dry. Also the tartar sauce was in a packet like ketchup. This was very disappointing. I suggest they make a homemade sauce and it will be a home run. Unfortunately we probably won't visit again useless they make a few improvements. "FIMP"Food is my Passion!

On 3.18.24. Someone call Nat Turner from the grave, because he needs to lead another revolt against whoever was in the kitchen on St. Patrick's Day!!! Nice service but the rice was severely overcooked to the point that it was like mashed potatoes, and was not edible . The potato salad was watering with very mushy potatoes. Too much sweet dill juice no onion no pimento no egg no celery salt not even paprika. Things that are typically hallmarks of a SOUL FOOD potato salad. Please see photo. This could probably have caused food poisoning because of the wateriness of it, we threw it away fast. Their version of potato salad is mushy potatoes, lots of pickle juice and pickle xubes, mayo, and a little mustard that's all . The candy yams which hurt me the most had no vanilla extract, no brown sugar, no nutmeg, no butter, no cinnamon and was watery. It was horrible and I love candy yams. It almost tasted as though someone had pour cotton candy flavoring into it. I wish I knew the staff better, because I actually would make candiedyams for them to show what is supposed to taste like. I was greatly disappointed offended. And quite frankly, I kind of wanted to get my money back, but I knew I'll probably would've got cussed out. Lol The pork chops was good and surprisingly the lasagna was very good being that it was a side. I think it's awful what happened to the other side items I don't understand how those items was messed up almost feel that they should not even serve that that day. I think for now on if I do go back I will stick to just a fried meat and the baked beans because those are pretty good and lasagna if I want it but everything else as far as sides are concern I would leave alone.I recommend this restaurant, revamp their menu and do a few items and do them well otherwise don't make them . The cabbage lacked flavor wasn't horrible, but tasted like it was out of the can. Any restaurant can fall short, but these basic items nobody should ever fall short on. Not even a beginner cook should be struggling to make rice, potato's salad or yams. Those are very easy to make. I know Mama/ owner didn't make those somebody else that was just hired in the kitchen that she trusted. Momma can't do everything! ****Personal message to Mama/ owner- please take a look at the photos and search deep in your heart. Please know whoever cooked the food above make them leave the kitchen for good just kick them out front let them run the cash register and mop the floors and clean the tables. Because if you keep letting them cook monitor finishing up something you started, it ain't gonna work out good. You might as well hire Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder******* And if you don't have the ingredients, don't make it!Last I can say the staff is very nice and kind. I would've put this on the survey but I cannot figure out how to log into the system to do the survey. There's no directions on a receipt. It just gives you a survey number so yelp it is.

Another soul food joint in Phoenix. This one is by far my favorite. The people that work there are friendly. You are able to dine-in. They always have some good music playing in the background. I usually do take out. I suggest ordering ahead to lessen your wait time. But the food is always hot fresh and delicious. I tried a little bit of everything and it was all good. Highly recommend the catfish and Mac n cheese. Unfortunately the barbecue was sold out for the day so I'll definitely have to come back and try the barbecue.

Thank you, Desirae for your amazing friendly service and the delicious food tonight! The fried shrimp was very possibly the best we've ever had... huge shrimp and crispy flavorful crispy batter that was cooked perfectly and the mac and cheese was over the top delicious! My husband really enjoyed the fried catfish and cottage fries as well! The only thing that wasn't perfect was the okra- cut too small so there weren't any chewy chunks. We will send our friends and family and definitely be back for dinner again soon!

Love. Came here for some good catfish as there's not many places in the Valley that does a good job! It is well-seasoned and came out piping hot! Very clean inside and hospitable staff! Almost forgot to take a picture since I dug right in to the catfish and fries! Please be patient as it gets really busy! I will definitely be back!

I really hate to do this. I used to love this place but how are the owners gonna know why I don't come back if I don't leave a review. I placed an order to go last Friday for my usual catfish strips, chicken and shrimp?catfish I received was very thin and hard. It also looked like someone had taken a bite out of it and put it back SMH. I placed another order for catfish nuggets and they were barely any nuggets in the container. I don't know what's going on but until they get it together, I will not be back, I think it's the young people they have working there they don't take pride and what they are doing, it's not their restaurant so why should they do it right

UPDATE: I took my mom here and it was less salty than my first visit. (She loved it!) ------The moment I walked into Momma's Soul Fish & Chicken, I was greeted with an inviting welcome and a smile. Not your usual "hi, welcome" muscle-memory-programmed-response; but the type of welcome that actually makes you feel like you're part of the family! Absolutely LOVE that.By the time I arrived (at 12:15 PM on a Sunday), some items were already sold out. While SOME folks might get upset about that- I typically take it as an indication of how good the food is. I approached the counter, where I was happily greeted again by Desiree. Let me tell you a bit about Desiree: She is the type of person that makes you feel like you've been lifelong friends within a few minutes. I'm serious...by the time I finished ordering my food, I was hoping to get invited to the next cookout! (And her friendly personality was the same with everyone in the restaurant. So welcoming and positive!)But let me swerve back...While ordering, I made my intentions clear to Desiree:"It's my first time here and I want to try a little bit of everything... what'dya suggest?"She walked me through the menu and offered all sorts of helpful/yummy recommendations, which I gladly accepted...(you know, since we're such close friends and all). I went with the "Momma's Pick 4 Mix & Match Meal" which came with 4 meats and a side. (Yup, I said I wanted to try a little of everything, so here we are.) I also ordered extra sides just to really solidify the "everything" statement.The food came out in about 25 minutes and it was all delicious! My meal included:- Meats: 2 Chicken Legs, Fried pork chop, 3 Catfish Strips (x2)- Sides: Yams, Baked Beans, Mac & Cheese, Okra, and a side of Peach Cobbler Some stuff was a little salty compared to what I'm used to (so I subtracted one star), but it was still good. As expected (and planned), I did not finish nearly half of my food but was happy to take it home for later. (Which, by the way, since it's now technically "later" I have taken a couple breaks while writing this to eat that cobbler. Delicious!!!)I will be back again to support Momma's and the crew! Make sure to stay abreast of Momma's news! They are currently implementing a lot of new additions and plans with the restaurant. It will be exciting to watch them grow their business!And always remember:SUPPORT SMALL, LOCAL, FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESSES.(Also, I had the privilege of meeting Momma really quick! And she is sweeter than the peach cobbler! Cannot wait until the cookout invite. Haha)ENJOY!

My goodness, everything was top tier!!! From the lovely host and server Desiree to the actual Mama siting:) the food was so comforting and perfected...definitely made with love!! I felt like family and you will too...get you some!!

The food was super delicious!!! Truly soul food. The service was great as they explained everything in the menu and provided excellent service. Great ambiance, clean and beautiful decorations. Food was 10/10 I had the pot roast, greens and candy yams. I haven't had better soul food in my life. See pics of what my family had.
