Momma’s Soul Fish & Chicken

Food was great. I had fish and shrimp dinner seasoned perfectly. Friendly staff and a warm hospitality .

The outside could turn some away but when you cross through the doors the place is awesome. Lots of TVs for the upcoming football season and great food to match.We had some chicken and I had the catfish strips (cause I love a good fried catfish). For the sides we had Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, cabbage and potato salad.Everything was delicious but service was a little slow mostly cause our waitress, Marissa, was also the bartender, so we understood the reason. You did great with everything you had to cover!We also had a live band playing some great hits so we didn't mind the wait.We will definitely be back and hopefully the next time is just as good.

The ambience was very pleasant. The neon lights and decor I did not expect but was nice. Server was polite and courteous. Mac and cheese was very good and so was the coleslaw. Chicken was cooked just right with food spices.

Great spot for Southern comfort classics!Mac and Cheese, Boiled Cabbage (with salt pork), Cornbread, Slaw, all on point! The mashed potatoes are pretty simple (not loaded with butter/cream) but good. Gravy was pretty basic. I'm eager to try her Pork Chops and dressing! Jumbo Shrimp and her Pot Roast are both delectable, and the portions pretty large.Caramel cake was tasty and a bargain at $3.50!In addition to great food and friendly service, she offers Seniors 55+ a 10% discount on full meals!Will add this fine little establishment to my list of go-to places!

Chicken wings are incredible. Catfish delicious. Ribs were hit or miss, some were good some were dry. Need more servers, staff is friendly but not enough of them. Corn bread dense. I loved potato salad others didn't.

During a quick trip from San Diego, we were found ourselves in Mesa craving some soul food. We found Mama's highly reviewed on Yelp. A bonus is that Mama herself is from St. Louis, and so is my bf. When we arrived it took me a minute to go inside because the music that was playing outside the restaurant was jamming!! But the delicious smell stop my one person dance party and I walked inside. It took a while to be seated, but I didn't mind because a busy restaurant is a good sign. We ordered catfish, chicken and waffles, collard greens and Mac n cheese. My mouth is watering again just thinking about it. Everything was SO GOOD! I should have bought extra Mac & cheese and greens to take home. After our meal we got to meet mama and she was so kind and welcoming. She and my boyfriend traded stories of St Louis and I told her how happy my tummy was. Next time we're in Mesa we will def be going back!

The catfish is Amazing. Best catfish I think I've ever had. The famous shrimp was my second favorite thing. The sauce is like a marriage of sweet and sour plus buffalo. And the shrimp quality is high. Staff was so friendly and letting Momma and Her son were the highlights! Such great people.

I hate giving Momma 3 stars but I have to be honest. For a population of over 500,000+ people, Mesa really doesn't have many "good" eating establishments, if any at all. Momma's southern comfort food sure was a welcoming sight when we read about the grand opening. With that being said, the food here is very delish! The best mac n cheese I have had in ages. The pork chops are prepared perfectly. My husband said the pot roast was better than mine. LOL! Since its opening, we have been twice. The first time we went was around 11:15am. There were 2 tables of 2, 1 table of 1, and a table of 6. I ordered the pork chop meal, my husband the 2 pc chicken meal. It took one hour and 3 minutes after ordering to receive our meal. During that time our beverages were only refilled once. There were 2 servers on the floor and one bartender. The second time we went was around 12:30. There were 4 tables of 2. We ordered the pork chop meal, pot roast meal, and 2 pc chicken meal. This time it took 45 minutes from the time we ordered to the time we received our meals. Our drinks remained empty for a long period of time because our server did not check on us. Luckily, we are all retired and are not on a time restriction. However, I cannot imagine anyone coming here on their lunch hour because of the lengthy wait. One thing to keep in mind is that if you are on a fixed budget the prices may be a bit on the pricey side (approx $25/pp w/drink) . My husband told me that he will not come back. He said the wait was unjustifiable considering the small amount of customers that were inside. I, myself, may try one more time in a couple of weeks to see if the wait time decreases. I would like to sample some more menu items. The food that I did have was so yummy.Just have to mention, it was quite warm inside. Almost to the point of feeling uncomfortable.

I love supporting black-owned restaurants. I don't love driving there, only to learn they are "out of" high demand items on their menu. If you are coming from a distance, I recommend calling first.

EXCELLENT food and the most professional customer service that I personally have ever experience in any restaurant establishment. I sampled the beef & pork ribs. Both was meaty, juicy and falling off the bones. The party wings was to kill for. A friend had the tilapia meal. She absolutely loved it. Sides of collard greens & yams was made to perfection. Can't wait to return.
