This place has a really good menu, with various staple options for Mexican food that is worth trying. The guacamole was fresh, well balanced in flavor. While the Brussels sprouts didn't really match the menu, they were still tasty. The tacos were well made, not overfilled or under filled, well balanced and various textures in each bite. The shrimp diablo was really good but could be spicier in my opinion - that would be my only suggestion for improvement. Mushroom taco and Baja fish were also great! Black beans on the side were simple but flavorful. Really enjoyed this restaurant for having great options and tasty food. The service was great and server provided good feedback and recommendations.

Cool place with a nice ambiance. For 10am on Sunday, it was super slow--both with customers and service. I wanted to love the queso dip but it was kind of bland in flavor and slightly grainy. It also wasn't very warm. The chilaquiles were ulta soggy but the eggs were very warm, almost as though the chips part was assembled and sat for several minutes while they waited for the egg to cook. I wouldn't order those items again, but I'd maybe try something else should I return. The service was friendly when they were around but mostly the staff talked amongst themselves rather than attending to the few customers they had. Not sure I'd return based on the service but did like the atmosphere

Beyond delicious. Drinks are craft-made and every ingredient can be tasted. The MOLE!! Do not skip out on their mole, it has depth!Recommended drinks: the entire mezcal old fashioned menu. PERIOD. We tried 3 out of the 4 and they were all 10/10. My personal favorite was the BARREL-AGED MEXICO CITY but that's just what my palette preferred. They were all tasty and well-balanced. Also, the Oaxacan Smoked Margarita gets an honorable mention. Don't pass on it. Recommended food dishes: the PAPAS PEQUENAS. These aren't just your average roasted potato. The seasoning is perfect, the cook is perfect and the portion is good. We ordered a half-size and it was enough for two. CLASSIC MOLE ENCHILADAS. As mentioned above, just order them. You won't be sorry. SHORT RIB ENCHILADAS. Perfect. The short rib is delicious outside of the enchilada and then when you take the entire bite of the complete dish, it's a symphony of flavors. Highly recommend. Kids menu is also SOLID and highly affordable. We took half of our food back to the resort because the portions are pretty hefty. Believe me, this food is even outstanding the next day, as leftovers. This location is pretty convenient to most Peoria areas, as we were staying at the Cibola Vista nearby and this was only a 5-minute drive from us. I can safely say it might be the best restaurant in Peoria.

This is a great little lunch spot. They had an assortment of items on their menu, their ceviche and elote was delicious. Their portions were large and the guests at the table raved about how delicious their food was. I was told that the jalapeño margarita was the perfect balance.

I'm back for the chips and salsa, of course, and the smile from Amy R. I plopped down during a storm brewing outside, so I knew I'd be inside for a while. I could have made a meal out of those chips and salsa but I went ahead and added a salad with Tinga meat. This wasn't some bland salad with one kind of lettuce. This was a savory, full of various vegetables and juicy tinga- or chicken with juices and onion and seasonings. I told myself I'd eat half and save the rest for later, but my fork had other ideas. I could've eaten the plate, it was THAT good. I opted for a Diet Coke but Any offered me a refreshing lemonade mix with tagin on the rim. This beat the Diet Coke and I downed that non alcoholic drink! I was able to take home some warm chips and salsa, which lasted about an hour after I walked through the apartment door. I'll be back.

As we entered the parking lot for Mochilero Kitchen in Peoria we noticed there were a lot of cars for a Tuesday evening but still a few parking spots to be found. We were welcomed by the hostess when we entered the restaurant and while the inside was quite small they also offered outside dining which was protected from the direct sun with outdoor shades. We opted to sit indoors and once seated we were quickly greeted by our friendly server, Ashlynn. While we didn't partake, as we sat we were presented with an extensive tequila/alcohol menu. Too many tequilas to choose from!We ordered two appetizers plantain chips and guacamole and a full order of brussels sprouts without the peanut sauce variation...just made with light oil.The appetizers arrived within a matter of a few minutes and we were pleased with the serving sizes of each dish. Everything tasted great and the brussels sprouts were crispy...yum!A shout out to our server, Ashlynn, she was very attentive, always refilling our water before the glass was empty. The menu is expansive with many options to choose from. My husband ordered the cochinita pibil and I order the chili negro bowl with short rib. Both dishes were scrumptious and we can't wait to return to try other selections on the menu.

Not my first visit and certainly not my last. Brought friends here for their first visit. The first words they said were, "this place smells amazing!"This was some of the best food I've had to date at Mochilero. And our server, who we've had before was so gracious and hospitable. I just wish the patio were bigger!

What is a mochilero? It's a backpacker. But why name a Mexican restaurant after a vagabond backpacker? Maybe the menu reflects travel throughout Mexico? Seems like maybe that's the case here. The food was better than expected, definitely of the higher end type. Everything was prepared with care and packed with flavor. We had a shrimp ceviche that was good, but not amazing. Chicken carnitas salad was kind of a letdown, as the chicken was not made to reflect actual carnitas. Basically just shredded chicken with some pretty vegetables and a sweet tangy dressing. Margaritas were solid. Over all not bad, a few hits and misses. I think you may be able to better on Mexican food in the Phoenix area if you dig a little deeper. Not bad though. I'd go back again and give them another try.
