What a cool place. The food is delicious and the menu has some super fun items that I hope to try next time. The fusion aspect of the restaurant is cool and brings a new type of food to the New Richmond area that is much needed. The inside of the restaurant is interesting, kind of a fast casual feel to it instead of a sit down restaurant although you can eat-in and be served in the restaurant. I prefer to get the food to go, but we will definitely be back!

Vudu is a unique gem in downtown New Richmond - 5 stars!Next up on my tour of New Richmond restaurants was Vudu Street Food. I love this place! They have some fairly exotic, chef-grade house-made food disguised as a casual "street food". Not all of it...but a lot of it. The vibe is soul food...meets Cajun Louisiana...meets Mexico...with lot of Mexican style skulls throughout. I really didn't expect this in a small town in the middle of rural Wisconsin farmland. Awesome! Not only is the food great, the price won't break your budget. The owner was cooking up his magic in back and his mother was ringing people up and being a waitress. She's very friendly. According to Mom, they started as a food truck and they opened the bricks n mortar place about 3 years ago.I read a couple of the critical reviews and I thought they were petty. Yes, my house nachos had cheese wiz type cheese. (I actually thought this was fine because real cheddar hardens like rubber as it cools and you lose the whole effect.) But they also contained house made chips, a giant pile of savory shredded pork, and I got the guac & house flavored sour cream which was top shelf. The cheese wiz is just part of the excellent Mexican style goulash. And the fries are hand cut, made in house. My friend had sliced parm on his. It was really, really good. My chicken waffle sandwich had house made waffles, not frozen Eggo Waffles! You get the idea. These guys do a good job and they don't charge very much for it.Another bitch was service. After a couple of trips to New Richmond, it's obvious that there just aren't enough employees for entry level jobs...not even close. (They have a hard time finding people in the Twin Cities too with a couple of million people kicking around.) And at the end of the pandemic, it's even worse because people are making more money NOT working and collecting COVID relief benefits. None of this is the fault of the business owners. I'm just happy that places like Vudu have made it through. And I was happy to meet Mom. She did a great job. Those of you that read any of my reviews know that I don't give out many 5 star reviews. But my experience was 5 stars all the way!Stop by if you're in the area. You'll be happy you did.Thumbs up!-Daddy Maxx Retro

We found ourselves in New Richmond on a Christmas tree hunt. We were coming from the Twin Cities with our toddler, so I knew lunch would be needed. I will admit that when I first looked for a kid friendly lunch spot in New Richmond, I found one spot and wasn't super excited. I changed my search filters and Vudu came up. The photos were what caught my attention right away. The food looked amazing! I saw they had a kid's menu and I was now excited about our choice. This is a small operation. It seems to be run by the chef/owner and his mother acts as the hostess/waitress. She was super friendly. We were one of maybe two to three groups of people dining. She spent a lot of time talking to us, telling us her story, and giving us recommendations on what to eat. She had that real midwestern warmth to her. As for the food. YUMM! I got the pork sandwich that has mac and cheese on it. The bread of the sandwich was perfectly crisp. Sometimes toasted bread can get too crunchy and be difficult to bite through. This bread though was still tender on the inside but perfectly crispy on the outside. The flavors of the sandwich were also perfectly balanced. The BBQ provided just the right amount of tang without blowing out my pallet. The cheese and mac and cheese provided richness without making the sandwich inedibly rich. The pork was juicy and fork tender. I wasn't able to eat it all in one sitting and it was still just as amazing as cold leftovers. I also got the plantains. I love plantains. These were so good. Again that magical crispy caramelized outside with a creamy inside. The mango salsa that came with it provided a nice zip of flavor too. Again the chef seems able to balance his flavors perfectly here. The salsa didn't overshadow the plantains but rather enhanced them. The decor was super fun. It felt like a little cantina from Southern California was transported to a small town in Wisconsin. It was bright, inviting, and so warm too. Please give them grace too as it seems like it is a two person operation. They are working hard to make some amazing food. While New Richmond may not really be near anything I normally would go to, this place is reason enough to go back for me.

Five stars for my cauliflower (rice) bowl with chicken; SO got a Philly cheese steak sandwich which he called a 7/10. Could have used more cheese, meat and the bun just so so. Since I raved about my bowl, he took a few bites and liked it as much as I did.Mary made us welcome as first timers, first in for the 5:00 meal time. The decor is eye appealing and the vibe just right. Nice to have a beer and a glass of wine with the meal.Oh for the days when live music was present but who knows the future? The place was off to the races with other folks as we left. Says something about the (rice) bowl; enough for two meals for me and when I got home with the leftovers, I noshed some more before putting it into the fridge.

The best food I've had in a while! Ordered the mahi mahi with the upgrade of sweet chili cauliflower and my partner in eating ordered the shrimp po boy with fries. Delicious! The young gentleman cooking knows what he is doing to say the least. I snuck a bite of the po boy and it was better than my favorite from Smack Shack in MSP. The mahi mahi melt was equally as tasty, the coleslaw with creamy and the pico with FRESH mango! I mean where do you even get mango in New Richmond. The owners mother waited on us and she was a delight. Price is right too.I will be back!!!

Just heard about Vudu this week. I'm totally surprised by this. Vudu Street Food makes a clear effort be a different experience. The location's designs and art create a unique atmosphere. The choice of dishes are well chosen giving the tease of many delectable edibles.Ordering is simple at the counter and you pay up front. We finally chose Pulled Pork on a Pretzel Bun and the Mahi Mahi Melt. Since we've had truffle fries before, we had to try Vudu's option. We weren't disappointed. The sandwiches came out in baskets that included a portion of the promised truffle fries. Here's where they took their efforts to a new level! The pulled pork with a sweet barbecue (great complement to the pork) and a slaw add-on was tasty and juicy. The Mahi Mahi was well blended with the home-made rough cut slaw and the Swiss cheese made the sandwich nearly perfect.Huge kudos to the well thought out selections. The prices also did not take away a bit from the experience. The result. A hidden gem that shouldn't be hidden. We will be returning! I recommend repeat visits to Vudu Street Food!
