So my other half and I went to Red Wing to try this restaurant that we heard so much about. When we arrived we realized they shared a parking lot with a hotel. There was plenty of parking even though it's a shared lot. When you walk inside there are chickens on a rotisserie grill. We were sat by a server, and our server a Hispanic gentleman came and took our order. We placed put order, my other half ordered the rotisserie chicken dinner, and I ordered a southwest chicken sandwich with fries. And while we waited for our food to come I looked around. I liked how simple the decor was, nothing over the top. Now to S this up, the service was A1 the food was so delicious and left us wanting more. This little hidden gem has so much to offer, excited to come back over the summer.

We visited on a Friday evening. My husband had a hankering for fish fry, and I saw on the Smokin' Oak's Facebook page that they offered a deal on cod. We decided this was a good time to try out the restaurant.First of all, you enter to a glorious view and the fragrance of ribs in a massive rotisserie. It's quite an appealing start! We were seated right away. The dining room is fairly basic with many old photographs of the Red Wing area. It's a pleasant enough vibe.Service was good throughout our visit. They didn't have a printed drink menu, but the bar was quite close to us, so we both glanced there to check the taps; I also took a picture. My husband had a beer while I had a fantastic blueberry cider. My husband was starving, so we started off with two sides. The cheese curds were hot and tasty, but not squeaky. We also ordered the bull bites, which came with a horseradish dip and teriyaki sauce. The teriyaki, unfortunately, was incredibly watery, but what we could taste had a nice flavor. The horseradish dip was tasty and we found it actually went great with the cheese curds! Our entrees soon came out. My husband's fish fry came with fries as well as cups of slaw and beans. He is not a fan of slaw and beans, so he gave them to me to try. I had a small bit of both and I found them to be quite good. The beans were savory and thick, while the slaw had a good consistency--crunchy and not watery. He liked the fish and fries fine, but he didn't think they were the best ever.I ordered the salmon salad, which came out without dressing. I asked the delivery guy about that, and he brought the cup out in about 30 seconds. The vegetables were nice and fresh. The salmon piece wasn't huge and it was on the verge of being overdone, but it was still good. The dressing was great. As this was a date night, we had to get dessert. I was impressed when our server recited a diverse selection. I chose the caramel crunch cake. It turned out to be pretty good, dense with just the right amount of sweetness. We want to come here again and try more of the menu, especially the delicious-smelling BBQ.

We were greeted and seated within about ten minutes so the wait wasn't too bad considering there were about three different baseball teams and their families also at the restaurant. There's a really neat rotisserie right when you enter that preps you for the woody Smokey food about to fill your bellies! The staff are very kind and attentive, the food came out relatively quickly all things considered. I thought it was fairly bland to be honest, my husband got the Smokin Oak trio that comes with chicken, ribs, and pulled pork. He had to lather his food in BBQ sauce, but the mashed potatoes were super good. I got the Smoked Salmon which was decent after pouring some salt and copious lemons. The lemon dill that came with it tasted heavily of straight butter so I didn't use it.

Good food and friendly service - 4 stars. Two of us stopped in for dinner on our way back to the Twin Cities. We had lots of options in downtown Red Wing but we decided to give Smokin' Oak a try because the Yelp photos looked appetizing and we were famished! We both got drinks and sandwiches. Everything was very good. And the staff were friendly. My only bitch was the lack of staffing. It was busy as hell, the entire restaurant was full and the whole bar was full, including people standing with drinks. And more people continued to pile in while we were eating our dinner at the bar.We sat at the bar for better service. But there was only one bartender for the entire bar and also making drinks for the dining room. It was painful to watch. The bartender was very nice but I felt sorry for her. It was really ridiculous. Everything took forever to get to us - the food and the drinks - despite sitting right at the bar. It shouldn't take half an hour to get tap beer while you're sitting 3 feet from the bartender, watching the whole fiasco. We were planning to order more drinks but we weren't willing to wait half an hour, again, just for cocktails.Management should really help the staff out and backup the bar for an hour or two during rush times. Other than that, everything was good. I'd stop by again but only during off hours, never again during a busy dinner.-Maxx

Ordered pound of brisket, half chicken and 1/2 rack of ribs online. Chicken was really good but ribs and brisket reminded us of dry roast beef. Also, the pound of brisket was significantly short of weighing a pound.

Seated immediately and asked for our drink order right away. The food was tasty, but the presentation was not impressive. (Smaller plate or chopped chives to garnish the potatoes could create for a better presentation)The Texas toast had a delicious rosemary flavor. I forgot to mention that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and unsure if they offer anything for such a celebration. The staff were wearing masks and looked very busy. Our waiter never mentioned the daily special or did any general talk like what brings you in. We asked for the drink menu, and they said they didn't have one at the moment.

The food was amazing! We were greeted by the owner and a waiter that were attentive and informative. We were here in Red Wing to visit family and he was nice enough to suggest some fun places to take our 4 yr old.I had the prime rib sandwich and it was amazing. The brown gravy draped over the mash potato and Texas toast base for an ensemble to rival anything anywhere.Wife has the chicken avocado sandwich and she was also pleased. The sandwich came with onion rings that were tasty and flavorful and not just "coating"Definitely will be back!

We have eaten here before, but were disappointed the last time. The chicken was not flavorful and a very small amount served on a Chicken, Bacon Ranch sandwich. The chicken and biscuits were heavy on carbs and light on chicken and again chicken was not flavorful.Sweet potato fries were very good. There were two large tables next to us which were full so the noise was rather deafening. We'll probably return, but not anytime soon.Rose L.
