old and outdated interior bad food okay enough service the food section: the food is very bad terrible actually most of it was either rock hard or undercooked the coffee was obviously been sitting In the pot for a very long time.the Service Section: the service was okay enough but definitely understaffed one server and two cooks but neither of them using hair nets nor basic food save serve knowledge obviously from a different era.The Ambiance Section: this one is unfortunate just cause this place is very outdated like mix matched needs a definite improvement the kitchen is in need of a makeover and a overhaul. I'm not a terrible person and I will not speak ill of people but there is a reason it doesn't get many customers anymore.

The Kitchen is a cozy little corner diner that's been in business for decades. Walking in is like entering a time capsule from my childhood. It feels outdated but comfortable. They close at 2:00 pm so it's primarily a breakfast and lunch place, but they do stay open into the evening on Fridays for their fish fry. The menu isn't very big, but they do a good breakfast and sandwich/side combos. I'm not sure how many eggs are in their omelets, but they seem larger than average and are really good! The prices are decent. The service is friendly. The food is good but not outstanding. It's a nice place to grab lunch. The same woman has owned and operated this business for 30 years. I prefer supporting places like this over the chain restaurant sameness.

The Diner comfort home feel and the pictures she shared w me is amazing. Open 8am-2pm The coffee is generic but good. I Had Onion Rings and BOWL of tortilla Soup w coffee $15. My guest had Toast Beef Sandwich w mash potatoes and mini tacos $15. Love the owner/waitress. This place used to be a Edsil Car sale Business years ago. It amazes me jst seeing the pics.

The local book store recommended The Kitchen. My Mom had a delicious Italian soup made with acini de pepe pasta. I had a delicious BLT sandwich with fries and we ordered fried cheese curds for an appetizer. The mix of cheddar and mozzarella was so tasty. The wait staff was friendly and attentive.

I was in town working a blood drive and in the pouring rain happened to come across The Kitchen In Owatonna. I decided to eat there for lunch: a cheeseburger and onion rings. After getting my food to go, I was handed a bill for $18.00. So I payed it. I went back to work and told my coworker who happened to live in Owatonna. "You're fu@king kidding me! No way. That's BS The Kitchen charged you almost $20 for that." Then donors found out and there was public outrage. People asked if the cheeseburger was King Cow? I called the restaurant back and they defended their charge of one hard earned Jackson soon to be a Tubman. It was pretty close to an hours wage I paid for the meal but I digress."Everything in our kitchen is handmade." A woman who claimed to be a manager said. Apparently among all the lunch specials in a booming factory town like Owatonna, Minnesota; the going rate for a handmade custom cheeseburger and handmade custom onion rings is $20 which included my tip. It's the new standard. My donors, Owatonnians alike were shocked and in disbelief couldn't believe perhaps I was taken for my money or just dumb enough to pay an excessive price. Word on the street is Wagner's (or Wags as referred by the locals) is where I should have gone as they have the cheapest price for a quick burger and o-rings around $5. A restaurant named respectively "The Kitchen" doesn't even sound like a restaurant anyone would spend that much for a burger lunch. "Chez Henri," "The Blue Goat," or even "Faupaux" sounds more like it."The Kitchen?" -I was a sucker. Was it worth it? No. But all the jokes and crap I got about the situation was! If you walk into this place from the rain and end up spending $20 for a cheeseburger and ORings, I guarantee you locals will come to your aid in humor and disbelief. Then tell you where you should have gone!

Very short classic menu. Added hash browns for some $2 and change to my omelet that were maybe 1 cup of hash browns if that much. Omelet was good, coffee was weak and flavorless. Yes it's a classic local diner but it was an underwhelming experience.
