When I'm in Asia, I love going to the outdoor wet markets. There is something kind of naughty about walking through areas that are jammed with all kinds of people yelling at each other, items on display with questionable refrigeration or past due expiration dates, plain view butchery practices that make you go "hmmm?!", and walking surfaces that define the term "wet" market. All of that is here to enjoy. The problem is, it is not in Asia and it is not outdoor.I have been coming here for well over a decade and have seen it expand and remodel during that time. I love that it is a success story by the family that owns it and it does fill the need for specialty Asian products for us Blackheads that cannot eat a meal without rice. But it seems to be declining over the years in terms of upkeep and it is really starting to feel dirty and run down. Customer service is also not a strong point and those unaccustomed to blunt, grunting Asian shop owner practices will be intimidated. It is worth overlooking those things though if you are in search for products and ingredients that would normally be off the grid for Minneapolis.I do like that there are a variety of ingredients that are tough to find in the Heartland (whole hanging ducks, Bird Chilis, blood cubes or an entire pig's face for sisig anyone?) and having stores like this really adds to the interesting food scene that we are fortunate to have in the Twin Cities but it is my opinion that since this is an established business in a modern country (as opposed to a bush-league start-up that is cash poor), it is overdue for some reinvestment into its physical space, display and inventory practices. The reality of this for me is that I stop in here when I am experiencing a rice related emergency because it is suitable to stop full-blown Asian grocery shopping withdrawal. But it could be so much better with a little attention to detail.

Business closed 15mins early. Annoying since we drove 20 minutes to get here. Can't speak to quality of food.

I would give them a 0 if I could. In my opinion the owners and their staff operate a shady business filled with expired food and prices policy. I went into make a purchase and when I got to the register they attempted to charge me more then the price tag on the item that I wanted to purchase. I attempted to plead my concern but you know how that goes, the people play powerless and I leave disappointed because YOU CANT MARK A PRODUCT $2.95 & then CHARGE $4.95 AT CHECK OUT

Shuang Hur has two locations. One in Saint Paul, which seems to be more Hmong driven and has a much larger selection. The second on Nicollet Ave. This location is much smaller and seems to be more Chinese driven. This location serves roasted duck and roasted pork, which I don't think the Saint Paul location does. They have an okay selection of Asian vegetables and such. Sometimes they have On-Choy and yam leaves, which are some of my favorites, but they usually don't during the winter months. Some other Asian grocers during Winter have those such as Shanghai wholesale and United Noodles. The price here is okay. Cheaper than United Noodles for the most part, but selection is worse. The instant noodles here are a lot cheaper too. Neoguri and Chapagetti. There's usually plenty of street parking, but they also have a shared lot too. I usually park on street, easier to get in and out. This location also is less busy than the Saint Paul one, but their checkout is usually much slower. The workers at the St. Paul one is FAST!They also take samsung pay.

I stopped here before eating dinner to get some lumpia wrappers and was very surprised by how small the store looked from the outside while also having a full encompassing selection of most staple Asian items I would need for any of my favorite recipes. They also had a decent sized snack section which is always one of my favorite parts of going to an Asian market the only reason I'm not giving this a 5 is because the store was a bit disorganized with products on the floor and the store didn't look the cleanest! There were snacks that weren't labeled with prices and a lot of kitchen appliances that were stacked on top of each other so it was not easy to sort through to find things. For a short person like myself it deterred me from even wanting to try! But regardless I'm thankful this is close to home so I can get egg roll wrappers whenever I want :)

We've been going to this grocery store ever since I was a whee little nugget, and some things never change. Any time our family visits the Twin Cities, we still make a stop here. It's not the most clean place, some of the employees aren't the most polite, and you'll find produce that has gone bad still on the shelves from time to time, yet there's still something about it that keeps us coming back. Maybe I've just learned to ignore the weird fishy stench of this place? Who knows. I'm still a customer here every month or two, and I'm thinking that'll always be the case. I do like the location of Shuang Hur Oriental Market...located right on Eat Street, it's convenient to go there before or after you grab a bite to eat. They've always had reasonable prices for their groceries too, so I definitely can't complain about that. On top of that, one of their employees who's worked their for a number of years is the nicest person. He is always eager to help us with anything we need. He goes above and beyond as an employee there, and I feel like some of his coworkers could use some lessons from him. Most of the time, they have a nice selection of roasted pig, so we usually buy a pound to bring home...there's nothing like some roasted pork skin y'all...I can practically hear the savory "crunch" in my mouth. They also have a variety of ramen noodle options at great prices. If you're short on rice, and want a major refill...they have 50lb bags of rice near their check out lines too...I like that they have an employee help you carry the rice bags to your car. Those are my go-to purchases at Shuang Hur.

I came to this market because its closer to my work, but i regretted it. I will never go back to this market anymore. Too small, dirty, not much selection, more expensive. Id rather go to the one in st paul. Stay away.

The meats they sell are fire, put those on a bed of rice and you got a good meal, if you're used to going to local Asian markets than this place is no different environment wise.
