Great ice cream, loved the pizza by the slice, and my friend could order a beer. They had all the good stuff! The arcade was fun, and it was fun sitting at the old malt bar. Friendly service! Order at the counter. Fun place that gives you a throwback in time, and photographs on the wall showing the building's history.

Considering this is the type of tourist/weekend town that looks like it should have an ice cream shop on every corner, it's a little disappointing that there seems to be only one option, and this is it.And that's fine. It's got a cool vibe inside with old pin ball machines and random kitsch. I'm not really an ice cream snob. Maybe it would be better if it was homemade ice cream, but I got a malt, so I probably wouldn't have known the difference.

I live locally, and every neighbor I've talked to has had a bad experience here. The Owner is extremely rude, and tries to rip you off with unnecessary credit card machine fees, and a automatic percentage for the tip, which we tipped the young kid who served us with cash. He seemed to get upset about that, which makes me think he doesn't give his severe all off his tips

First time here and we walked in just as a rush of people came in behind us, so we lucked out in getting service right away. The one guy that helped us was in his own until someone finally came from the back.We ordered two malts. They were each $6.99. Slightly on the pricier side, in my book. The place is quaint and has a bit of a nostalgic feel. There were 4 booths that I recall seeing, but two were blocked off (social distancing) other tables/chairs, and outdoor seating. There were also old church pews to sit on while you waited. My chocolate malt came with whipped cream, chocolate syrup drizzle, and a cherry on top. We did pay first and will note he put on gloves to ring us up but then did not change gloves when he made our malts. My malt was nice and chocolatey. It's on the main drag and guessing they get a lot of traffic. Ie were able to park on the street nearly in front of the store front.Employees were not masked up and we were about the only patrons that were.

I'm not sure what I was expecting before walking into Schooney's, but I was surprised by the atmosphere and overall setup of the shop.We stopped in on a monday prior to setting up at our campsite at Interstate Park.Schooneys was quiet and only had a few customers inside and just one young guy working behind the counter. Based on the limited descriptions online (and the fact that a bunch of other places nearby were not open Mondays/Tuesdays ??), we weren't sure what to expect here but were sort of looking for a restaurant type place to eat at. I'm not sure how to describe Schooneys... there was pizza in one of those spinning display cases, ice cream, and disposable plates. Still, we just wanted to get a taste (ha) of the small town before heading out to camp and were willing to try anything!Pretty good pizza, had some good root beer with it, but skipped the ice cream that day.I see some other reviewers have complained about the quality of ice cream, the credit card charges, etc, but we really weren't concerned with any of that. It's clearly a small business operating in a small border-town, and they're doing their best. They've celebrated many years of business and we were happy to have the chance to take part in it with our pre-camping lunch stop this year. It was a cool place to stop by, had cool decor, and was overall a good experience.

So, I love malt shops and ice cream. Serving Kemps ice cream was not a great start - made in store is far superior. Second, when I ordered a chocolate banana malt and it was not fully mixed, I was pretty disappointed. Third, a $1 surcharge for credit cards on any order? That is perfectly unacceptable in today's world. A $10 minimum would be fine, but that is not what this was.

They have Zanzibar chocolate, nuff said. Seriously though, great ice cream selection with a very casual, old-fashioned pizza joint feel. There's also outside seating during the warmer season. Ice cream is a little pricey with one scoop between $5-6 (depending on which cone you get). Their portions are VERY generous though--I'd recommend getting a double scoop ($1.25 more) to make it worth it. There's also a $1 charge on all cards.

We went when visiting Taylor's Falls last week and the two staff members were extraordinarily friendly and patient (4 adults and 4 kids in our group). They had 34 flavors of ice cream and everything was delicious! I ordered a chocolate malt with extra malt powder and it was delicious!
