Ruddy's Rental Equipment

Have not posted in quite a while for various reasons; but I just can't let this one slide. I rented a log splitter today from Ruddys rental in Forest Lake. Please avoid this business for the reasons stated below. Thanks. First of all the customer facing person I dealt with did NOT take COVID-19 safety seriously. Even when I asked several times he would not adjust his mask to cover his nose. A-hole. So because it is very close quarters inside we ended up doing this bizarre two steps back dance every time he needed a signature or something. Now for the rental. The first log splitter did not work at all. It could barely manage a dent in the wood. So back I went with two hunks of wood to show them it didn't work. The second unit split wood fairly well, but would only run about 2 minutes at a time. After about 2 minutes it would just die!!! So, to do my chore I needed to restart this piece of crap about 50 times!! Also after about 20 minutes the unit stopped and would not start again. I eventually found a broken wire on the kill switch. Both of the splitters were ancient pieces of junk. After all this when I asked about payment the stated I owed the four hour minimum. No reduction due to the hassle stated above. Zero stars. I will NEVER go back to Ruddys. And I suggest you do not go there either. Thanks for your time.

Scammed me and tried to say that I used the 2 wheel dolly on the truck. Never touched it, even checked it when I turned the truck in....IMPOSSIBLE for the plastic zip tie to break. Robbery plain and simple. No wonder they have 2 stars....

This place is horrible This place should go out of business. The only reason why there still alive is because of the expensive pricing. This place isn't very professional Not satisfied I had a hour and 50 min rental Brought it back sooner and the gas gauge didn't read very well and it looked the same during my 30 mile drive This place seriously needs to fix the trucks brakes and there paper made the mileage on the car confusing. The gauge was very strange. And they still wanted to bill me 33$

All around terrible experience. I paid for almost a thousand dollars worth of rentals for my daughters wedding to include 110 chairs. When we picked up the employees were very rude and rushed us through loading- I will say they did make sure to tell us to count them- sure enough we bring back ALL the chairs we got from them and it's 109, so they added another $65 to our tab. I do realize I hold some responsibility because I should have triple checked the count but when you are loading up a trailer full of chairs and being rushed it is difficult. They did not have the chairs counted out before we got there just pulled them off of several carts and there were 15 or so remaining on the final cart. Then luckily before we left my son in law realized that the U-Haul trailer we rented that they hooked up was not secured to the hitch. Not sure if they don't know what they are doing or if they are just trying to get more money from customers. I would find somewhere else to rent if I were you or plan to pay more than you bargained for. Sad that this is how anyone would choose to run a business. I do hope the owner sees this review and at least discusses customer service with his employees.

Hello all, this was my first and last experience with Ruddy's. Here is my list.1. Expensive - there was 8 things they charged me for and I rented 1 think with a trailer and attachment. I think they charge you to rent the chains to tie down equipment. 2. Gas was not full. when I brought it up, the only guy working basically called me a liar.3. I rented it for 4 hours. I was 25 minutes late returning because I had to go get more gas. He charged me another $95.004. When I went to pick up, I had to wait because the only person working was on the phone.5. When I returned, he made me back it up into the spot he wanted. I have rented from White Bear Rental 30 or more times. They always have multiple people working to assist with all parts of the transaction and they are 25% cheaper.Thanks Ruddy's for teaching me where never to rent from again.Absolutely Terrible Experience.

Great experience here. After purchasing a house in Forest Lake in April that needed a lot of landscape work I googled local equipment places. Rudy's was one of the first to pop up and with sub par reviews I was hesistant to use them. However, I'm glad I did, and rented equipment multiple times from them (April - June 2024). Would recommend 100% and will continue to use them in the future whenever I need to rent equipment. Thanks Rudy's!

I have worked with Ruddy's rental for over 30 years now. The equipment is sometimes older, but less expensive than many other places I have worked with. Plus, with older equipment, you won't get dinged for every scratch that happens while working. If you want a sunshiny personal experience I suggest you go somewhere else. If you just want to rent equipment, double check everything before you go, and don't abuse the crap out of the equipment. In short, if you are fair with them, they will be fair with you. There will be no grace if you are late or if you don't fuel up so don't expect any. The majority of my experiences with Ruddy's have been decent. If they seem hardened and crusty, understand that it goes with the business. People break things all of the time and then concoct the most outrageous stories. If people had been breaking my stuff for 30-40 years I would be a little hardened myself.

DO NOT rent from them. I reserved items well in advance for a graduation party only to have them tell me they made a mistake and entered the wrong date therefore not available. The best part is they were sorry and offered me the courtesy of refunding my money back - really a courtesy? NEVER will I trust them to rent anything from them again.

Sourpuss to the Max!! Run Away!!We rented a trailer for the day. We didn't care that this trailer was the most rusted piece of metal on the planet, and looked like it barely survived WWII. We didn't care that the place was pretty run down!The Ruddy's employee that hooked the trailer up to my truck was the most negative, pessimistic, crotchety retail employee that I have ever met. This guy made Eeyore from Winne the Pooh look like Joel Osteen.My attempts to cheer him up was met with even a higher level of self-pitty and toxic and inappropriate comments.We talked about this jerk the whole day. We were in total disbelief. Perhaps he had been having a bad day, certainly, we thought, we would be met with someone with some level of politeness and, if not any manners, at least an absence of rudeness, when the trailer was returned the next morning... Well, no such luck...this guy was on a mission to win the National award for "The Rudest Employee of the Year." This guy should be fired twice, just to make sure he never comes back.This place is a solid "Do Not Reccommend." Rent anything, anywhere else, no matter how far the drive!!

I wish I would have read these reviews before renting from Ruddys Rentals. Dishonest and Terrible customer service. I rented a 26-foot U-Haul Truck. I checked the mileage before I left the store, and it was 26 miles off. I immediately went back in and had them verify. They promised me they would correct it. When I reviewed the final billing, I was charged those 26 miles and it took 3 calls to get an $18 refund which didn't even cover the 26 miles I never used and was charged. I also returned the vehicle with the same level of gas, but they still charged me for 6 gallons of gas at over $5.00 a gallon. When I asked about this, and explained I only traveled 31 miles total, so how could I have used 6 gallons of gas, as those trucks get well over 5 miles per gallon, I was told they don't know what I had loaded in the truck and don't know how I drove.... Really!?! Everyone I have spoken to about this, has told me of similar stories and how they won't ever use Ruddy Rentals. Now I won't use them ever again, either. If you want to be taken advantage of, and be overcharged, then go to Ruddys. If you want fair pricing and honest discussions and not be taken advantage of, go somewhere else!
