Rice Lake Family Restaurant

Let me start by saying this is a 3.5 star review (thanks Yelp). The place is a pretty standard local restaurant. Lots of offerings (actually way too many) and edible, pretty pedestrian food.We were passing through town and needed a bite to eat; I'd been here once before and decided to give it a second chance. The restaurant is large and appears clean. The staff was efficient but not very welcoming (obviously we weren't regulars/locals).After looking at the huge menu, my dining partner went with a basic breakfast. She wasn't impressed stating, "We probably don't need to come again." On the way out, she got a piece of coconut crème pie. She said it was mostly whipped topping.I went with the Reuben club and a bowl of chicken dumpling soup. The soup was just on the high side of warm. Had it been hot, like soup should be, it would have been good. The sandwich looked good and actually tasted good, not great.My suggestion would be to cut the menu in half and come up with a couple of specialty items. While a large menu allows everyone to find something of their liking, it usually means mediocre food (as I'd describe our experience).Not the worst or the best; average. Knowing the community has better choices, I'd probably opt to try one on our next trip.

Amazing Food for a great price! Service is always amazing and extremely fast! The breakfast Food is the best especially the biscuits n gravy.

Our hotel's free breakfast was lacking, so we decided to get something to a little more filling for breakfast. We discovered the Rice Lake Family Restaurant. This place is just like every other family restaurant in Anytown, Anystate USA. It's clean, the staff is friendly, the food is what you would expect. It's affordable, it's warm, and there's plenty of it. My friend and I both ordered the Southern Benedict. It just sounded good, basically it's biscuits and gravy with a poached egg on the biscuits and a side of hashbrowns. We weren't disappointed, good flavor, the hashbrowns were cooked to the standard one would expect. A little crispy. I actually would have prefered crispier, but that's my fault i should have ordered them that way. My son ordered the Banana Nut Pancakes. When they brought them out the look on his face was classic. These were three huge half inch thick pancakes loaded with banana's, nuts, whipped cream and banana cream. He looked at the pancakes, then up to me with a look of horror in his eyes. "I don't think I can eat all of that!" he reluctantly admitted. A growing teenage boy will put away a lot of food, he got over half way through and threw in the napkin. He liked them, hey thought they were delicious, there just was a lot of it. My only real complaint was that my son and I both ordered Orange Juice, and it was more like orange flavored water. It wasn't very good. We had just spent 4 days drinking powdered tang made with some very chemical tasting water and we would have preferred that. If you're looking for an affordable breakfast that will fill you up. This is the place to go.

What a cute restaurant for breakfast. We went at 10 am and it was packed! We all had coffee and I loved that I never had to ask for more they always had someone walking around with a pot of coffee refilling. The food sizes were large and the price was low!! We will be coming back !

Service here is super kind and welcoming. And the food is just good ole american style comfort food. I got the steak skillet which was juicy and yummy and the country fried steak and eggs, and you can't go wrong with that. Top all of that off with piping hot, fresh coffee on a cold winter day! *Chef's Kiss*

Excellent!We pulled up and they were very busy so we were a little concerned that there might be a long wait. We were asked to put in our name on a list but then just moments later, we were seated.Excellent service. Drinks served immediately and orders taken right after.Food came fast but we did not feel rushed. We were so happy with our server, she was pleasant and knowlegeable. Plenty of coffee refills.Everything appeared homemade, Sunday Soup is the cream of chicken with wild rice. Home made, not from a can! Mashed potatoes were definitely home made, delicious.I can see why they were popular. Staff knew their regulars but we also felt very welcomed. Next time, we will save room for the delicious looking pies!

The highlight of my meal was some of the best beef and cabbage soup I have ever tried. My companion also loved the chicken dumpling soup.Our sandwiches were tasty and good values with good ingredients.Service was friendly and fast.The interior was clean and a nice place to enjoy a meal with big comfy booths.

This is a great little restaurant. The food and service reminds me of the diners in New Jersey, except it doesn't look like a diner. A wide variety for a menu. Prices are reasonable and portions are a pretty good size. I think the steak skillet is a good solid breakfast, omelettes are good too. Burgers are a nice lunch option. If you are looking for a good sit down or takeout, then consider the place an option.
