Cash only, no tap beer - Pioneer is a very clean and welcoming up north bar. They actually serve pretty good food of the deep fried variety. The cheese curds are especially tasty and they do serve burgers.Most of the time, it's fairly dead in here but gets rockin' on summer weekends or during snowmobile season. The rest of time, it'll be you and maybe a few regulars. The interior is updated, with log pine walls and an impressive collection of taxidermy (that's saying something for an Up North bar).

Pros:The bar is very spacious and clean. The decor is normal for the area, cabin lodge and almost kitschy, but not quite. Nothing is on tap, but with your bottle of Leinenkugel you can get a basket of deep fried cheese curds. Fellow patrons are nice enough and willing to leave one alone to enjoy said Leinenkugel and cheese curds.Cons:Far away from everything; if you're here, you came by car. Someone always has to be the designated driver. Also, it's cash only.Odd:Teens are welcome here, and feel free enough to grab a water or soda from the fridge behind the bar. Their parents hang at the bar while the 20 to 30 somethings plug money into the jukebox and dance around the pool table.Historical Note:At 11:55 p.m. on July 4th, last call for smoking your cigarettes was announced. The last hurrah was celebrated as several patrons lit 'em up. As of July 5, smoking is no longer permitted in Wisconsin bars.

Family-friendly place that's lively on summer weekends.I enjoy eating fried cheese curds while drinking beer in a northwoods cabin-type pub. Cash only.

We started coming here this summer from our lake place. We like it. Very fair prices, good bar food, good fish fry. Service has always been good and quick. It's a local bar in the woods but we like it. We prefer it over the other nearby bars in the area.

Blue cheese burger was heavenly. Not a condiment needed. Great service and wonderful staff. Very nice establishment.
