Food and chef experience were 3 stars, but 5 stars for service. We made a same-day reservation for our party of 4 for Hibachi and were seated right away. I enjoyed the imported selection of beers. Our orders were correct for food and I understand the chefs work long nights, but our chef did not seem happy to be there and was just trudging along unenthusiastically as he prepared the food in front of us. We did appreciate that the shrimp was added to everyone's meal. Service was great so an added star! The portions are large but the food was a bit bland. The family that came from out of town and wanted Hibachi did have a good evening, but not sure we would return for the Hibachi.

Update - still good - 4 stars. It's been a long time, 8 years since I've been to this location. Of the 3 locations I've been to in the Twin Cities, Roseville is my favorite. The restaurant itself seems to be the nicest, the most beautiful, and the cleanest of them all. I haven't been to the other 4 Minnesota locations...yet.For a chain, Osaka does a good job and I like their food. I started things off with hot green tea, and I ordered Spicy Vegetable Miso Soup, Yakitori (chicken skewers), and 3 styles of tuna based sushi rolls. The flavor of the soup was awesome but I didn't eat the veggies (since I'm a low-carb dude). The Yakitori was good too. The teriyaki sauce was super sugary so I didn't my best to wipe off most of the sugar. And finally, all of the tuna rolls were exactly what I expected - good. The service was very good. In fact, whenever I go to any Osaka location, I'm blown away by the excellent customer service...everyone is always super polite, friendly, and on top of everything. And the Roseville location didn't disappoint, the service was great.LOW CARBOHYDRATE: It's easy to do the low-carb, keto, carnivore eating style at Osaka. Most of the sushi rolls are pretty good. I also do my best to avoid any gross vegetable seed oils, added sugar, large rice portions, gigantic noodle portions, and big piles of starchy fibrous veggies. My glucose levels definitely like it that way.I like Osaka. They aren't a Chef Ramsey, super high end sort of place. They're more like the Applebee's of the sushi world. But for what they are, they do a great job. Thanks, Osaka!-Maxx

Eeeeeeeehhhh...If desperate to find a sushi spot to fulfill your sushi craving, 10000000% it will fulfill that desire, and you WILL walk out happy. I do not NOT recommend. I recommend for people who want sushi that is good quality but do not expect rare types of nigiri, sashimi, or other fresh types (maguro toro, toro sake, or even seabrim...). Fancy rolls that are tasty? Decently not overpriced basic sushi rolls (maguro maki, shake maki, yellowtuna with scallion, shrimp tempura...) that are fresh, well proportioned ratio of fish to well treated rice (what "sushi" actual refers to...the rice!) and good service. Want super fancy "Americanized rolls?" They have them! Want some nigiri/sashimi or combo plate? Available with a decent quality selection. Want the more rare pieces of fish or, say, california roll with REAL crab and not the "crab stick" immitation? Go somewhere else. And that is the sole reason I give 3 stars. When I crave good nigiri, sashimi and/ or basic maki rolls, I come here. Prices are cheaper than others around St. Paul, but I do not expect some crazy re-inventations-avant-garde experience? Not here. Great for the most simple rolls/nigiri/sashimi.

Osaka has great staff that make your experience fun. Joke around and put on a good show. Great food, my personal opinion is the noodles are the best! Overall fun experience. The yum yum sauce is amazing and service is great. Always fun to introduce people to this place.

I love this place but have only been twice! Once for sushi and the second time we sat on the hibachi side which was a first for me. Very fun as a family but not easy to chit-chat. The food is great and super, super affordable. Ambiance seems questionable but service is always great and the food is so good. So many sushi options to choose from and a big menu but it's not overwhelming. Ily Osaka

Pricey for the Hibachi dinner. Soup was thin, salad was iceberg lettuce, noodles and everything else was heavily sauced. Had an allergic Rx to something.

Not too bad, really. We only had sushi rolls and those were pretty good. The waitstaff were friendly if a bit overwhelmed.

This was a fun group meal. There were 16 I. Our party and we had 2 chefs cooking our food but we were all in one big circle. It was a great show and the feedback was goodThere was just one vegan in the group who is sensitive to soy and sesame so it makes it a challenge to order even at a Japanese restaurant It was nice and they do there best but cross contamination of non meat can occur here that is based on the unpleasant side effects I had after the meal If you are vegan be careful Not on my list to return to at allFor meat eaters go for it

Not bad! Met a group for friends here for lunch. It's fun to watch them cook the food and put on a mini show.Ordered the steak and shrimp. The steak and shrimp were perfect and I loved the vegetables. Noodles not so much as they were quite greasy and the white rice was perfect. Light and fluffy.Service was good. Nice experience and a good time with friends.Great lunch specials!

FYI - we went in tonight and they couldn't serve alcohol! They lost their liquor license for the night. Didn't tell our party until we were already sat down. What a joke - they should have at least told us when we walked in the door or made our reservation so we could have made a different decision to celebrate tonight.Service was fine. Food was fine. They couldn't serve alcohol.
