8/22/15-After looking in my fridge with great disappointment I uttered the familiar words "road trip" So off I went. A three hour ride to the Monarch, but I enjoy the place so much that just doesn't matter. A great destination with great food, service and of course great beers. I have found myself becoming quite fond of the Prairie Red Lager. I had the banger and beef this time and of course it was excellent. That bistro sauce on the corned beef was unbelievable. Thank you Monarch and staff for another great dinner.Take your own road trip to the Monarch you won't be sorry.

The overall star rating was tough to choose for this one. My friend and I were in town for a weekend getaway and wandered in. We mostly loved it, but also found it frustrating.Pros:Beautiful space! This is a building from the 1800s, and it has been refurbished to bring out all of that character. The furnishings and decorations)and beautiful bar) just make you want to hang out. We met the owner and heard some great stories of travels to Ireland, as well as pride in how the food is made here. He convinced us! We took a seat to have a drink and some food! The bartender was friendly and so much fun. We were having a great time chatting with these guys.Cons:Then.....we couldn't get their attention. We had cocktails and decided on food but.... no one came to take our order. My friend went up to the bar to order, and he said he'd be right over but... nope. It wasn't very busy, but I suppose the stories and chatting we enjoyed became a detriment to quick (or any) service. So I can't comment on the food. We really wanted to try some but just gave up and paid for our one drink. I would go back if I'm in the area again because I did enjoy it. Just would hope I could actually order food this time (or I would just sit AT the bar). Temper your expectations, I guess.

Great atmosphere like stepping into a bit of IR. Food is homemade and beer is brewed in house. Plus a Full bar Rueben sandwich did not disappoint and a huge serving size. Delicious /well worth the stop

STAY AWAY!We had an awful experience here last week.First impressions - we were greeted by an awful smell upon entering the building, very musty. Also, we were there at dinner time on Thursday night and there was only one other table eating. These were our first bad signs. We decided to stay because there isn't many other dinner options in the area.I ordered the bangers & mash and my husband the Original Monarch sandwich.Bangers & Mash came out and the waitress informed us that they were out of sausage links so they just cooked up some loose ground sausage and served it that way. Please see the picture. It was EXTREMELY unappetizing and reminded my of a can of cat food opened up on a plate. Wow. I would've thought she would've came out to inform me of this before serving me. I would've choose another options if given the change. My husband's Original Monarch sandwich was cold, skimpy on the meat and dry. What an awful dining experience.Luckily the waitress did take the odd bangers & mash off the bill. But we left hungry and ended up getting a burger at another bar.STAY AWAY!

Came here years ago and decided to try it again. Worse than the first experience. Owner or manager is completely lost. I assume you have to be a local to get service otherwise this place would be closed in any other town.

The food sucks, the owner has no idea what he's doing, is often drunk, and just a jerk in general. Once a local institution has become a local joke.

Stopped here on a nostalgic drive around my hometown. Loved the atmosphere and the food was fantastic. I had the Irish stew, and my friend had the Irish stew with potatoes and Guinness, both served with authentic Irish soda bread. All was delicious as well as the brandy olde fashioned sweet!! The staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back!!

Not very good service. Had to wait for service the guy was talking and gossiping about a customer that just left. Food was blah.
