Howies Bar

Had lunch here with my sister as she said they had the best wings in town. I ordered a Cuban sandwich with a side salad. The Cuban was on a hoagie bun even though I said texas toast. I ate half and brought the other one back to eat for breakfast the next day. It was good, but Manea's meat market is better and cheaper. The salad was huge but had at least 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on it, which I removed. I tried a buffalo wing, which was good but skimpy on sauce. When I arrived, both toilets were out of tp. I told the bartender and she replenished. The carpet reeks. Cluttered beer posters, signs everywhere, even on ceiling.Review 7 in 2023.

I love Howie's. Nice, friendly people. Above average bar food. Only wish is they had a few more taps for some more craft beer options.

Love the small town bar atmosphere, reminds me of my hometown and what St. Cloud used to be. Great servers and good food. I recommend Howies Bar!

Cannot stress enough how much you should avoid this place. First drink took over 45 minutes to get to the table. Not busy at all, and well staffed, watched the waitress and bartender go to play with the vending machines by the front door half the time we were in there. Drinks were made without soda or lemonade and even after the waitress admitted this, she waitress refused to take them off the tab. The burgers came out cold, and what should have been a 45 minute dinner took over three hours. During that three hours we enjoyed one drink, not because we didn't want more, but because the waitress never came back.

3.5 stars is fair for this unasumming sports bar set in the middle of a group of bail bond agencies. It makes sense that Howie's has been a long time watering hole for attorneys, clerks, and cops as its located across the street from the St. Cloud courthouse. I wasn't really vibing with the place but if I were looking for cheap beer, pull tabs, darts, and the largest TV known to humankind then I'd be as happy as a fatty with a mitt full of Twinkies. My fixed income/retired Father was all too willing to order the weeknight special. It's a $2 burger...that's it...nothing else. (Cheese is 50 cents more) I had to razz him for the fact his soda was more expensive than his meal. I made him splurge 4 more bucks on fries too. (Mr. Cheapo can afford it). Since he was paying I ordered two entrees just to really stick it to him! I live to give him $h!t...it's my job. I ordered the boneless wings and BLT salad. The food was the standard bar fare with nothing more or less. Our service was friendly and adequate too. Howie's doesn't really serve a purpose for any of my interests, but I can see why it's been such a long standing St. Cloud bar. I'm still wondering about the dimensions of that TV....

Locals Impression...The owner is a good guy and likes to take care of his regulars. They draw a great crowd for Vikings games and give away some decent door prizes. However, year after year the regulars are the only ones who seem to win the Grand Prize, and they have yet to upgrade to HDTV's. I still like this bar because of the great crowds. They also have a shuttle bus for SCSU hockey games, making it my only stop for drinks before the game. It's also conveniently located right next to the county jail and police station.

This bar has been in my life for 27 years. My mother used to throw darts there when I was young. Hollie would usually come home with something, but on Wednesday nights she would come home with buffalo wings, now it was too hot when I was a kid, and it took some time to get used to the heat. NOW, THAT BEING SAID! I absolutely love those wings, they bring me back to a cherished time, and I just have to use them for a comparison to every other wing I try! But, nothing can beat the quality and taste of Howies wings!

As far as I am concerned Howie's is the best damn sports bar in town. Come before a Husky Hockey game and enjoy a free nacho bar and shuttle to the game. Come during a Vikings game for the free chili and hotdogs. Come on Fridays for the Meat Raffle. Come during Monday Night Football for food/drink specials and contests. It doesn't matter what you come for Spanky and the whole crew will make sure that you are having a great time at this classic Minnesota Sports Bar.

Strait up american food bar/restaurant bit dated in style but comfortable. It can get pretty busy depending on the specials and day of the week and the food delivery time suffers but except for under the heaviest of nights the food is fast, good and staff always making sure you are taking care of I also wish their wings were available before 1PM!
