This hotel is so cute. I had a very pleasant experience. Old school charm and good customer service. They actually give you real keys unlike the cards you get at other hotels. This of course came with a cost because if you loose the key the cost is about $150 bucks fee.My room was so elegant and very fitting for a staycation. The only thing I noticed is that the walls are a bit thin so the sound does travel. Luckily, I had some mature neighbors and didn't have to worry. I took advantage of the SPAC- Saint Paul Athletic Club facilities while I was there- Sauna, Steam room, and pool. Sad they didn't have a hot tub, but I made due. This is a hotel that you can go to and be very low key. They don't have a restaurant on site but their continental breakfast is a great deal. Everything was fresh. They did a great job with fully stacking the food and providing an array of options.Would highly reccommend and would return.

Very beautiful old hotel. Love the mail chute so primitive. Unfortunately our room, my birthdate, 1217 is tiny. Well not the roomBut the bed was tiny and shoved in between two walls making me fell claustrophobic! I should of taken a photo but I was so tired I just tried to rest. It was definitely not for two grown adults. I had a hard time getting in and out of bed because they also had a huge nightstand positioned on the one side so you basically had to scooch to the bottom of bed to get out. It was clean room. Continental breakfast was fine. Lots of toiletries and kitchen sink and kurig to make coffee. I think it also had a small fridge. I would have preferred a larger bed and not all the other stuff. Sleep and convince of the green line is the only reason why we stayed here. Love the beautiful door to get to the walkway system from the 2nd floor. Too cool. The pool and gym are awesome as well. Adult only so you don't need to worry about kids slashing and crying.

Quirky older hotel. I like. Weird issue: they have a bar but you need to go to front desk to get one of them to bartend. Weird but they are nice.Beautiful lobby and fitness facilities.Keys. Real keys. Beautiful ballroom for our conference. Overall great experience.

This has been a nice place to stay. If you like working out it's really good for you. This used to be an athletic club. There is still a gym here. The rooms are clean and the staff is nice. It's connected to the city over walks.

I had no expectations beyond a clean room in an historical setting.Mission accomplished.Hotel 340 oozes history. Beginning with the lobby, a setting right out of a "roaring 20s" picture, the check-in desk in the corner is unobtrusive and doesn't detract from the stunning setting. The huge fireplace, the grand piano, the dark wood, the open balcony-style second floor, all evoke another era. Above one of the elevator doors is the arrow that shows the elevator's movement between floors as you wait for it to get back to the lobby.Hotel 340 is also confusing. The lobby is on the main floor, but the hotel rooms are on the 10th, 11th, 12th floors. If you're coming in from the skyway, it's not very well marked. It's also not clear which parking deck is associated with the hotel (it's the Capital City garage), but if you find a spot to park on the street and then check-in, they'll direct you. The parking fee is discounted and includes unlimited in/out access for guests. There are several room styles in Hotel 340. All maintain the historical feel, although with a few modern-day conveniences. Knowing I wasn't going to be spending a lot of time in my room, I opted for the efficiency. And that's what it was. The bed, a double, took up most of the floor space. A replica armoire provided a spot for clothing, the desk on the other side of the room held a large screen TV and satellite receiver. There was a small refrigerator, a keurig coffee maker and two bottles of water. Awkwardly, though, I had to unplug the refrigerator to use the coffee maker. The window, probably not part of the updated decor, leaked cold air. St. Paul in November and a little cold air go hand-in-hand, but require an extra blanket. The lobby area of the 10th floor has two large lounge areas to appease any claustrophobia from the small rooms, and are a nice place to chat with other guests. The St. Paul Athletic Club is at your disposal, with a $10/day added charge. It's worth it unless you prefer mall-walking the skyway for free.Hotel 340 is unusual, quirky, and worth a stay or two.

At first look, walking into the historic building it feel extravagant and almost like you can feel the history in the atmosphere. The reception was super nice and everyone was respectful. But entering our hotel room, itself is not great. There are chipped paint on the walls and the windows. The bed room is tiny, just big enough for a queen bed and some walking room. The bathroom is also tiny with a walk-in shower. I just assume it's what happens when you keep the original structure of a building built in 1917 to cater to "super size me" America. But that's ok.What you REALLY pay for is having access to the entire Saint Paul Athletic Club. I think that itself is worth the stay. ...unless you don't work out then I think there would be other problems... :\Things they could improve on would be the continental breakfast and house keeping. The breakfast isn't even as good as what you'd get at a chain hotel like Best Western. The sheets were musty smelling and the house keeping lady gave us some major 'tude when we told her and even mocking our term "musty" as she walked away. And I found a q-tip in the sitting room.

I am so glad I chose Hotel 340. This is an old building which was converted to a hotel about 10 years ago. It has lots of character, and definitely is not a cookie cutter experience. The rooms are a little bit unconventional, but that's due to the fact that they were made to fit existing architecture. Having said that, my room has a microwave, frigerator, small kitchenette setup with sink, a few plates and silverware. The bathroom, however, is where it really gets good. Two sinks, a private cubicle for the toilet, a stand up shower with waist level spray, and a sauna! The staff has been very friendly and informative, I was able to leave my bags with the front desk, since I arrived to St. Paul on an early flight, and check in is at 3pm. They did tell me to check back around 1:30 and they would probably have something for me, but I just roamed the city until after check in time.I simply can not be any happier with the people here!Continental breakfast isn't spectacular, but it has the standards, including a Belgian Waffle maker. Plus there is a large selection of drinks, juices, milk, in a refrigerator in regular size cartons, so you can pour a glass. Cereal, bagels, fresh fruit, muffins, Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches to be microwaved, also breakfast burritos which are not store bought!Full use of the 5 floors of gym equipment, as the St. Paul Athletics Club is in the same building. The light rail is steps away, (Central station on the green line)I am writing this review as I await my laundry to finish, in the guest laundry, which is free, including free Tide detergent. Two bottles of water next to the ice bucket every time the room is made up, an assortment of complimentary shampoos and lotions I haven't paid much attention to, except to note it is extensive, and I feel like this hotel just gets it. I'm not being nickel and dimed for the little conveniences.Speaking of money, I checked in on a Wednesday and I'm leaving on a Saturday, cost was $340ish. Not bad at all! (Booked 2 weeks in advance through BJ's travel)My only complaints are the heater/air conditioning unit is extremely loud, but maintenance was literally discussing it with the front desk as I walked up.Also, my room is on an inside wall, so my view is of the windows of the hotel's other rooms. If you want all the conveniences you're used to from the Hilton, with a side of character and charm, give 340 a shot!

Really solid hotel that has a lot of charm in my opinion. You can tell that this is a older hotel, but all the rooms are very well renovated. If you're a big fan of charm and older style hotels, then this is the place for you. For me, however, I'm a fan of modern and sleek, but I can still appreciate something like this hotel. Was only here for one night, but I have nothing to complain about except the price. The room I had I believe was the cheapest one available but still ran $110 and was quite small. If I come back to Minnesota, I would be open to staying again. The location itself is pretty unbeatable considering everything is around it and available by skywalk.

Hotel 340 is truly a hidden gem in St Paul. It has all the granduer of the Landmark Center, but on a slightly smaller scale. The ballroom is amazingly gorgeous. They have had a lot of employee turnover and are apparently owned by a company that doesn't need business, so it often is empty. However, they are remodeling slowly and the hotel has quite a bit of charm.I have rented rooms a couple times from Hotel 340 and recently hosted my entire family for Thanksgiving there. It is perfect for large groups because there is a nice common living area that can easily handle 20 people. The breakfast is good, the pricing is fabulous for downtown. The walls are pretty thin, but the ambiance of the rooms is lovely. It feels very European in styling, even though the kitchen finishes are fairly cheap. The wood floors, posted beds and vintage styled bathrooms are wonderful. I love that each room is a tad different, some with living areas that are downright charming, and they all have nice tvs. Once the pool and gym are remodeled, that will also be a nice addition. It is VERY hard to make a reservation, with front desk people telling you they'll call you right back and then never following through. There is no website to research the hotel and they go through managers quickly (we had three different managers in just the few months we set up the Thanksgiving trip). So you have to be very clear with your wishes and expect something to get messed up. But they are also good at making it up to you.Now that they have Andy, he seems to be with it and getting the hotel back in shape. Hopefully they'll start hiring some pros to run the place.
