Hilltop Retreat

Made reservations after my boss suggested they were necessary (tiny town, lack of choices). Showed up and our "reserved" table was where the kitchen and bar met; very loud and hectic. LOTS of empty tables when we arrived at 4:45 p.m., but we still got sat in an undesirable area. App of cheese curds. Meals were Hilltop Melt, country style pork ribs and king prime rib. The cheapest meal was happiest with their food: Hilltop Melt with Sweet Potato fries. My mother found that the pork ribs were dry and bland (and I did try them and they were indeed bland and the only flavor came from the BBQ sauce). Don't brag that your boneless, country style pork ribs are cooked for 18 hours, when the result is dry and bland. My king prime rib was served later so the hashbrowns could cook, according to the waitress, yet the hashbrowns that my mom and I both had were okay on the outer edges, but not warm/cooked on the inside. The prime rib had decent flavor, but it was tough and required a lot of sawing through with a steak knife.The best part of the visit was our waitress Hannah; food was mediocre.

My wife and I went in there this weekend to check it out as we heard there was new ownership and a new menu. We were greeted with a big smile from the bartender and the owner (Justin). They made great cocktails and the wine was great too. Food was also some of the best we have had.

Cheers to the Hilltop crew. Other two reviews over 2 years old. New owner and team are doing a great job. Great salad bar with lots of choices and fresh veggies. Wild rice soup was spot on and not too salty with a great balance of rice to chicken Had the chicken caprese dinner. Chicken was tender and great flavor atop of great garlic mash. Finished the meal with a brandy alexander. All the staff was friendly and outgoing. Will be back. Worth the drive.

Long drive off the beaten trail not worth the drive! Burger meat is odd to say the least not BEEF!! Prime Rib fatty and not flavorful... sorry would not return!!

Great food and service. I had the caprese chicken in my husband had the prime rib. Highly recommend this place!

Prime rib was awesome, but when we asked for horseradish to go along with our prime rib, they seemed confused, and brought out horseradish in squeezable Hienz squeezable packages . The appetizer of fried mushrooms was delicious.!!

Hilltop Retreat is a neat place. Perfect for date night, large groups, and kid-friendly too. There is a mini arcade with seating by it for families. As you walk into the main restaurant, there is a large stone fireplace. We had the Canadian walleye. It was excellent. The dinner came with our choice of soup or salad. Everything was good. The service was fast and friendly. We will be back!

Nice staff, good drinks, decent food. Nothing special but enjoyable dinner for our family

Our first time here. Enjoyed the decor and atmosphere (kid friendly but with upscale restaurant feel). Wife and me arrived without reservation but a spot was made for us. Enjoyed the prime rib and special drink "bourbon bomb". Will come back with kids but will make reservation.

Awesome food and service! Check Hilltop out you won't be disappointed! Great drinks and entrees.
