They failed to pick up my trash on Tuesday, then came by and picked up my neighbor's trash can on Friday - ignoring mine that was literally 5 feet away. They had to walk past mine to get to theirs. I immediately called to ask them to send the driver back and was told that because I didn't call within 24 hours to let them know my trash wasn't picked up, they weren't going to be able to. I'd need to wait until next Tuesday and any extra bags would cost $3 a bag.1. WTF DRIVER? If you see an overflowing trash can with your company's name on it and you're there to pick up missed trash for the next door neighbor... what is the point of not grabbing it? 3. That "24 hour rule" isn't listed anywhere on their invoice or their website. Why do I have to tell you you didn't do your job? Her answer: "It's your trash." THAT I PAY YOU TO PICK UP! Why is common sense an OPTION for people?

Go with another option if you can. Before moving to MN I had never had any issues with my garbage and recycling company, but right from the start Highland missed pick-ups and had issues with consistent service. They actually missed my first two pick-ups and every time I called to let them know of this it was always my fault or they claimed the can wasn't out at the right time (despite the fact that recycling was picked up and the cans were put out at the same time) I'm willing to forgive a lot, especially if I feel like the issue might be partially my fault, but the straw that broke the camels back involved a service interruption due to a lost payment. The service rep I initially spoke tried to be helpful and admitted that they have lost payments in the past (she actually said, "we lose a couple of payments each year") which I appreciated and quickly asked my bank to resend the payment, providing the transaction records so they knew the money was again on the way. But when I called back later to ask if they could restore service, they refused, citing a policy which tied their hands. When I said that I didn't feel like they valued my business and that I was considering switching services, the person on the other end got very irate and claimed said my threats weren't appreciated. When a business reacts so defensively you have to feel bad for them. Clearly, the issues I raised about lost payments, poor customer service, and a lack of follow through with their customers are ones that they have confronted before and issues that have forced them to cling to an inflexible policy as a way to survive. There are other companies who offer more for less. I switched to one of their competitors who offered the same size garbage, recycling, and green waste cans for about $21 less quarterly and they don't limit your additional green waste bags (Highland only gives you two per month) I would prefer to give my business to a family company, but there were just too many problems to ignore. Over the last year and half they probably missed about 7 or 8 pick-ups, which is bad but not horrid, and since they had fairly adequate customer service for the most part I gave them two stars instead of one.

We were residential customers of Highland Sanitation for more than twenty years, were always very happy with their service. Highly recommended.

We've used this company in our small condo lot for two years, and have felt lukewarm about them. They're cheaper than what we had before, but it's true that you get what you pay for. They have a truck with a plow on it, but don't do any detail work, so snow has built up around car parking spots. They also don't plow all the way to the pavement, so we have 6" or so of snow packed on our lot. This morning is the worst. It's 6:30 a.m. the night after a big snow storm, and they have yet to plow our lot. People can't get out to go to work. We tried to call them but there's no after hours phone.

Pat & Judie 3/17/18 .... We've been customers for many years and have always found Highland reliable... BUT...What has happened?? Our bin was overflowing last Thursday and I watched the truck whiz right by w/o emptying it. My husband tried to catch up to the truck and when he did, he thought they told him that they would return. Needless to say, they did not return. The squirrels and now the raccoons (they were out last night) will make a total mess of our alley. We are up to date with our payment ... never missed one... This is not the service we pay for nor do we expect. 1371 Prior Ave., So.

Highland is reliable, clean, friendly and reasonably priced. I shot them an email question about recycling on a Sunday, not expecting a response on a weekend. Heard back within a hour. They're the best!

Horrible service. Have blown off picking up our trash for two weeks. Worst customer service around. No one is answering their phones.

Bought a vacant building in St Paul and had no idea their service had automatically been started on my property. There were no trash cans there- nothing. Received a bill for October-January. They had zero interest in acknowledging they had no cans there or fixing anything. I went to the city to cancel the plan, but they certainly took as much money as they could for ZERO SERVICE. Not how a "legacy family company" should operate in my opinion.

This company is horrible. I cannot tell you how many times they have "missed" our trash. Everyone's trash was picked up but never ours. Trash builds up and then what do you know! the next time they come pick up trash again, there's extra bags (that were supposed to be picked up the last week) and we get charge for them! Ridiculous! And when I called, they promised to not charge us for the extra bags because it was their fault they didn't picked them up. Nice business tactics!
