Beautiful, historic home.
Sioux's homemade breakfasts were the best!! Sweet, savory and most importantly: Fresh!
The library...filled with books, DVDs and games to borrow. (Note the homemade slippers I was able to borrow during our stay!)
Comfortable and cozy shared spaces.
Breakfast was served in your room or at the common table downstairs. Great accommodation.

What a great place to stay! My husband and I stayed one night and loved the experience. This is a gorgeous 1930's mansion with so many neat original styling details and fixtures--so many old properties are remodeled and the charm is lost, we appreciated how well kept and clean the property is. We arrived in the early afternoon and were greeted by the friendly hostess/owner, got a tour of the property, and were welcomed to enjoy a lovely happy hour--which included wine, charcuteries and tapenade, gourmet caramel apple--in the sunny living room. The house was quiet and comfortable for a peaceful overnight stay. The breakfast and coffee on the sun porch was delicious and beautifully presented. We highly recommend this B & B to our friends who appreciate classic charm.

If you are looking for somewhere cozy and comfortable to stay, this is your place. The location is great--just a 5-10 minute walk to downtown. Sometimes I am nervous about a B&B because the furniture may be old and unkept. However the furniture at the Golden Lantern, mostly antique and eclectic, was clean, comfortable and in great condition. We were very pleased with all of the little amenities: Sherry and cookies upon arrival, board games and DVDs to borrow, catering to dietary reatrictions....the list goes on. One last thing: the breakfast is enough reason to stay here!

I very rarely splurge with a night at a B & B, but after the delightful experience at the Golden Lantern Inn, I'm going to include this in my repertoire of special treats to myself. This was absolutely everything I was hoping for: not too far from the Twin Cities, close to the river, in a quiet town (Red Wing), small, great bed and a good shower. Of course the time I chose to visit, it was a gorgeous evening/day with low humidity, cool temps and bright sun (in the midst of a steamy July). The building was built in 1932 and is the former residence of a former president of Red Wing Shoes. The house was converted in the 90s for B&B use. It is immaculate and comfortable, and Sioux's attention and friendliness was appreciated. My room (Helen's Room)was a suite with a balcony. Very nice. A beautiful catalpa tree graced the balcony. The grounds are beautifully maintained. You can even have a cookout there if you like. There are several areas on the grounds where one (or a couple), can sit and enjoy the ambiance with sufficient privacy. You can choose to have breakfast served in your room, but I chose to sit with other guests in the bright sun porch. The coffee was excellent (I can be pretty fussy about coffee) and the breakfast was delightful: a baked egg and cheese dish, with fresh fruit, juice, thick bacon and a warm apple pastry with butter slowly melting over it. Oh baby! The occasional train whistle added to the experience of having reverted to a bygone age for a while. I will be back!

We booked the inn for our wedding in June 2017. We helped install a window air conditioner in the main seating room as it was very hot that day. We made a joke about a discount on our rooms for that night and Sioux's response was quite rude. We were reprimanded like children on at least 3 occasions. ranging from being 5 minutes late for breakfast to pulling weeds from the back sidewalks. (where our wedding guests would be sitting for dinner). The pictures on the website don't really reflect what it looked like on June 11th and 12th 2017. The gardens and sidewalks are covered in weeds. Sioux herself wore no bra and a filthy white shirt when she served breakfast on Saturday. Needless to say her attitude continued with our guests as i heard from over half of them who had some contact with Sioux and her 1 employee on staff that weekend. I am 53 and my husband is 45. Total wedding guests 20. We wanted a small and fun wedding, and had it despite the weedy grounds and a rude owner. On the plus side the rooms are clean and the beds comfy.

I was floored at how wonderful this place was. Sioux's cooking was simply outstanding. The bed in JR's suite was very good and the happy hour servings each day were good and very nice to have. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a getaway in Red Wing. I just wish the weather would have been better to take advantage of the backyard fire area. I could only imagine what the place would look like in the fall or winter. I only have one gripe, and it is very minor. The yard needs some help with weeds. The garden would be absolutely magnificent if there had been a little more work done to manage the weeds.
