Frieda's Cafe

I stopped here for lunch on a Tuesday and it's a classic diner, the type of place I love. FIRST AND FOREMOST, THIS IS CASH ONLY! I forgot to check before I ordered and had to run to an ATM to pay my bill. I can honestly say I have not been to a restaurant that has more reasonable prices than Frieda's Café, it was CRAZY to see in 2023. These are throwback prices to the early 2000's. I ordered the BLT Sandwich and fries, and it was really good. The BLT was not large as you might expect for the price but was a good sandwich. It had several pieces of bacon, and everything was really fresh. The French fries were crinkle cut and very good. The service was good, considering every seat in the place was taken. The food came out quickly and it is a very clean establishment. I will definitely be back when in town. This has to be the best value for the dollar I have ever seen.

Drove past this place on the highway and had to turn back. It looked like my kind of place. And it was. Got a lunch of Swiss steak, or was it Salisbury steak, with mashed potatoes, gravy, and vegetable. I sat at the counter behind the cook. I Informed him that the price on the blackboard must be a mistake. The meal was only $6.95. So he took out the chalk and added another 1 before the 6. "There! That make you feel better?" And that's just about what this meal would have cost in Minneapolis.

Don't miss this place if you are in Willmar - it's a rare slice of Americana with delicious food. I was by myself, so ate at the counter - pleasant and quick service. I had egg salad and a cup of ham and bean soup that was super good. When the dessert is gone, it's gone - too bad for me, next time!

We love this place! We visit every time we're in town and it brings back tons of great memories for the Sands family. Food is delicious and you can't beat the friendly service.

This is a walk through the past. It's very busy. You will wait a bit. However, the prices are from 25 years ago and the food is exquisite. The servers are friendly. This is just an old time diner that you simply can't beat!

Went here because this was a childhood favorite of my husband's. It's changed hands a few times over the years, but it's been almost 30 years since he's been back here. It's a little unassuming diner front, nothing flashy. Going in, you get greeted by all the locals- which in pure Willmar, Minnesota fashion is nothing but friendly. Seating is cozy; table or counter. The grill is right there. This is the home of the $1.29 hamburger, Uncle Buck-style pancakes and bottomless coffee that won't rot your gut. I seriously can't get over the enthusiasm of the husband and wife team that always stopped to chat. I left with a full belly and a silly smile on my face. Big city would ruin this place. Time has stopped here, but simple, old fashioned family friendliness has not. Thanks for making my day, Steve and Amy!

I just visit this place last week, I was visiting town for a week and gotta say. This place was the best thing I got to see in town. Good food, low prices, awesome service. This place is awesome. I would recommend it any time any day. I would definitely visit again.
