The food was okay. The donut was not very fresh enough but kolackys were great. The service was very nice though too. I would recommend this place if you really want kolackys

After seeing a segment on the news about the Kolaches or Kolacky's from Franke's in Montgomery, being a big fan of these tasty treats I knew we had to take a road trip. They even have a Kolacky Days in Montgomery. My kind of days! Montgomery is a beautiful little town located about an hour south of the cities. We arrived just after 8am on a Saturday morning and they were busy. We went in and stood in line while we surveyed the goods. At first we didn't see any kolackys and thought maybe they were sold out. When the kind folks showed us where they were located, we were happy to see them but at the same time somewhat surprised as they were not what we were expecting. They looked like a dinner roll with some fruit filling. Well, maybe these are traditional. We ordered a couple of apply kolackys, a raspberry croissant, a cinnamon crunchy roll and a peanut ball. Sadly the kolacky was not what we expected. It tasted similar to a dinner roll with apple filling. Not bad, just not what we have previously enjoyed. The other items were good. I mean c'mon, I don't know that we've ever had a bad doughnut. Just ask Homer Simpson. Our favorite was the cinnamon cream cheese roll. We didn't get any cream cheese flavor otherwise this roll was crunchy with the pleasant taste of cinnamon. This was just our first stop on our road trip. We really enjoy small towns and bakeries so I'm sure we'll visit next time we are in the area as we can always eat a doughnut or three.

My wife and I were in Montgomery about 1:30. Really nice people, but the Kolacky selection was way down. My wife's mom really wanted the prune ones, but they sold out.No big deal, we still bought 12 of them for her mom.5 stars would be if they had the selection we wanted, but cool family place.

Frankly, I wasn't impressed. The "really good" rye bread (according to one of the owners) was just so-so. Not much rye flavor. The Kolachys we're definitely not what I was expecting since this bakery seems to be known for them. The dough was soft and pillowy, which was nice but they were filled with two or three small bits of fruit and A LOT of flavorless goo. I thought I was paying for a fruit-filled pastry -- not goo. Very disappointed.

Great service, amazing deserts. We purchased all the deserts for our wedding here. Compliments across the board! One guest commented "If I lived closer to that bakery, I would be fat and they would be rich" The lemon bars stole the show... besides the Bride!

We make a special expedition to load up on kolackies here every Good Friday, then to Edel's for Jiternice sausage.
