This company is terrible! We moved to St. Paul recently and have had a terrible time with Eureka picking up our recycling. Reading the other reviews, I realize that we are not alone. Apparently St. Paul doesn't have any incentive or penalty clauses in their contract with Eureka and so they act like a non customer friendly monopoly. I hope the city administrators take note of all the bad reviews and don't contract with Eureka in the future.

The only reason they rearmed one start is because they'll MAYBE pick up my recycling once a month if I'm lucky, even though they're supposed to pick it up weekly.

The recycling pick up time in my area is at the same time as the various trash services. A few weeks ago they even followed one another down the alley. Last week we were skipped and were told that the alley was too full of snow for the truck to safely pass. We had less than 1/2 an inch of accumulated snow/ice total. All of the trash service came through with no issues. Plus all of the recycle trucks carry sand/salt if they hit a slick spot that they can't escape, we've witnessed this and spike with the driver who confirmed all the trucks are equipped. The customer service has been completely unresponsive and turns the blame on us as residents for their drivers not doing their job. They sent out a postcard stating they would guarantee pickup and allow extra bags because they missed us last week. This week we were skipped again. The accumulation can't be an excuse this time as the alley as of last night was nearly completely clear with just a few spots where clumps fell off cars in the driving area. This has not been our first issue with Eureka. We have just reached the point of finally posting a negative review.

Zachary S's composting poll reminded me that I've been meaning to review this business.Imagine my horror when we moved here from a *much* smaller metro, with a well-documented lack of commitment to recycling and renewable resources (hello, Detroit has a humongous INCINERATOR and Michigan takes practically all of Canada's garbage for landfill), only to find that the recycling programs here in the Twin Cities are sadly much less comprehensive than what I've been accustomed to using. The plastics and cardboard recycling here fall far short. I still have not gotten a satisfactory explanation for why ALL recyclable plastics cannot be accepted, not just 1 and 2 bottles. I do not understand why waxed cardboard for freezer meals can't be recycled either. The explanation that I received from the business is that my old program may have accepted the items, but did not in fact recycle them, which I know is not true. They get their second star only because they have a big initiative for residential composting. Check the website for more information.

Once again the recycling truck driver did not pick up my recycling bins. They are on the curb within plain site, The driver looked over saw my bins and drove around the corner as if they didn't exist. This happens at least once a month. I have a family of 5 and we recycle, so needless to say our 2 bins are constantly full. This is pathetic, They got new fancy trucks and they still can't do their job correctly.

The only reason I am giving Eureka a 2 star is because the customer service department is very helpful. However, I only talk to them because my recycling is constantly being forgot about and not being picked up. Usually they pick it up a day or two late which interferes with my garbage being picked up.

Just got off the phone with Eureka as I had three questions re recycling. I am a big recycler so will recycle anything that Eureka takes. I often look at the Ramsey County website re recycling and composting. Every year Ramsey County also has USPS deliver a recycling guide, apparently to every address in St. Paul. I could not find an answer online or in the paper guide for my three questions so I called the Eureka # (651-633-3279). I got an outgoing message saying that due to a "labor shortage" I might be on hold for a while. Surprisingly, I was on hold for only about 20 minutes (I was envisioning at least twice that). I was completely dissatisfied with the response I got from the gal to my questions:1. Are plastic cards the size of a credit card (i.e., promo offers from Xfinity) that have a recycle icon with the number 1 inside it recyclable? According to the Ramsey County info--online and the paper guide--#1 plastic containers are recyclable so I wondered if these #1 plastic cards were. The gal I talked to didn't seem to know so told me to throw them in the trash.2. Aluminum foil is supposed to be recyclable (depends on the city but a few years back I checked and foil was recyclable in St. Paul). So, I was wondering if the foil "lids" that are on large and individual serving sizes of yogurt (and probably other products) are recyclable. The gal I talked to today didn't know. I guess I'll have to make a phone call to the city of St. Paul.3. Paper--including envelopes, newspaper, office paper--are all recyclable. I used to toss in smaller pieces of paper (i.e., post-it notes, note pad paper, etc.). I had read or heard recently that smaller pieces of paper (post-it note size) should not go into recycling as it's too small and is often missed when the recycling is being sorted. Well, post-it notes come in a variety of sizes so saying anything the size of a post-it or smaller shouldn't go into recycling is ambiguous. Today I mentioned that to this gal and asked if there was a specific size (i.e., 2" X 2"). All she did was read from the manual which says nothing about the size of paper. Disgusted, I said "forget it" and hung up. For any of the questions I posed, she could have said, "That's a good question. Let me see if I can ask someone else." It was clear that she didn't want to do anything more than recite what was in the manual.

One star is far higher than this pathetic organization deserves. Maybe organization is a poor choice of label, since they have none at all. This company has gone months without picking up recycling. They don't pick up a number of things, even though they're recyclable. Most people in the cities are aware of this as they've experienced it themselves. Newspapers have written about it.My personal issue with them is that the driver continually leaves our can in the alley. In the past, before changing to the new bin, the driver would have the bin halfway down the block, in the street, facing up when it's raining, etc. I've complained to them endlessly. I've even contacted the BBB about it. The reps there, Joanna and Dave, outright lie to your face about why their driver doesn't put the bin back where it should be. I can see that the very same "reason" they're giving is contradicted by the fact that our neighbors have the same situation as we do, and their bins are returned.I feel like this company are a bunch of assholes who are going out of their way to intentionally irritate me because I made complaints about them. What kind of business does that? I think people need to contact their local state reps to complain and get someone else a contract to pick up recycling.

Terrible service. This is the issue with one contract, one service provider. If the lid doesn't close all the way, no pick up. If the street is messy or the can gets plowed in, no service. If you bag your cans and missed a bag when filling the bin, no pick up. For Pete's sake, why do we moan and complain about restaurants using carryout containers but then cannot recycle plastic bags? No initiative to better collections or service.
