The only plus about this place is the easy access to the freeway. We started with the onion rings. They were overcooked and tastes nothing of onions. Then we got the reuben, one with fries the other with tater tots. Meat on reuben was fatty and there wasn't much of it. Fries were undercooked and flimsy, tater tots were way over cooked. Club sandwhich came on marble rye, which wasn't great. There was barely any turkey and it was all in the middle. Everything was just bland. Our server was not friendly either. The food wasn't great and the service just brought it down farther. Also, the menus need replacing. They were ripped and dirty. This is our second time trying this place now and we won't be back.

Best wild rice burger I've had - quick easy service! I don't live in MN, and will be craving this as I head home to TX. Guess I'll have to find a recipe and see if I can recreate this

I saw all the rave reviews about the bloody Mary so we had to stop on our way to Duluth. The bloody was delicious and our food was amazing. My husband had the Reuben and I just had a side salad but both were very delicious!

Excellent service , good burgers, sandwiches . Also amazing cheese curds that are properly breaded. However do not go here for their entrees. Not overpriced but less then desirable. Amazing burgers and sandwiches though. Also good atmosphere.

On an earlier road trip my adult son and I stopped at the Doc's found directly alongside 35, exit 209.Despite their proximity to a busy freeway, the faux log cabin structures are located in what I thought was an isolated neck of the woods. Entrance is gained by following a short graveled road that ends in a paved parking lot. The interior of the main building felt spacious, clean and well lit. Clientele on a busy Sunday afternoon was a mix of young families, couples, a few teens and assorted others. We grabbed a booth in a semi-private side room and were each given two menus. The first is Doc's laminated default while the second on a sheet of letter sized paper listed the specials of the day.We both ordered the smoked brisket sandwich (his with melted Swiss and mine with pepper/jack cheese). Smoked meats (ribs, chicken and brisket) were offered as specials all Sunday long until they run out. We also stuck with fries. The enormous sandwiches were overflowing with oozing cheese and heaps of thick sliced brisket. While on the fatty side, the brisket was moist, tender, flavorful and as mentioned, generously portioned. The rolls on which the meat was stacked were very good, the fries were average. A plastic ramekin of decent BBQ sauce rounded out the meal served atop a reusable basket with a patterned wax paper base. I can only speak to the Sunday specials, among which the brisket sandwiches are offered. Based on this admittedly limited experience, the homemade BBQ proffered was considerably better than many such places. Prices for the quantity are quality are in my opinion reasonable. Service, somewhat inattentive (understandable given circumstances) was ultimately informative and unfailingly cordial.I plan to stop by again for ribs, a burger, walleye sandwich and the highly praised broasted chicken. If you live in the vicinity you certainly are familiar with this deserving establishment. If driving by, say on the way to or from Duluth, I don't think you'll be disappointed if you decide to give Doc's a try.

My family stopped at Doc's on the way up to the North Shore for a family weekend. We were all getting hangry and couldn't make it to Duluth so we pulled off the road and decided to try this supper club out. The menu was pretty big and offered a good selection of sports bar and supper club options. I decided to go with the Friday Fish Fry special and my wife went for the Steak Melt Dip. Our kiddos decided to split something off of the kids' menu. My fish special came with the salad bar which was stocked with a good assortment of toppings and side salads. They even had spring mix salad instead of just the cheap iceberg lettuce mix which was nice to see. My fried fish platter was huge, each plate came with five decently sized fish fillets. The fish was also very good, it wasn't the cheap whitefish that you normally find on these specials, it was a high-quality fish with a good beer battered outer layer. My wife enjoyed her steak melt sandwich. It was packed full of meat and cheese and they didn't skimp on the portion size either. Our kids easily split their meal as it was big for even one kid to eat. Service was fast and friendly and had a nice touch of Northern hospitality. You could tell that many of the locals came here as well so you had a nice mix of out of towners and locals. Great food and beer specials, worth another stop when going up to Duluth.

Since we're getting into cabin season, if you happen to be headed north on I-35, stop off in Sturgeon Lake for a gem of a spot with great food and a killer masterpiece Bloody Mary. So normally what I considered to be a good bloody isn't this and most containing an entire meal on top tend not to focus on the drink itself. There's a few exceptions to that tendency and this is one of them. Bloody Mary ~ choice of vodka mixed with a peppery house tomato juice blend finished with a skewer of bacon and two full smoked ribs plus accompaniments . **I won't list off all the garnish on this bad boy, but rather let you do a Where's Waldo with it from the pic. Damn, this bloody is fine and has just the right amount of spice. The ribs are fantastic, but you'd expect nothing less from a joint who has won awards for them.**Also tried their Plum Wings which were dynamite!

A hidden gem with your typical bar food, but also serve home smoked meat goodness. Ribs are amazing, they have fantastic bloody Mary's and yummy burgers. Nothing fancy, but do have a fun and quirky atmosphere. Service was prompt and friendly. We'll be back.

The food just isn't as good as it used to be. We have been in twice in the past 3 weeks and it isn't busy either. On July 4th we had a caesar salad with old, brown lettuce and no croutons, and the shrimp appetizer was on a bed of minced bacon. Yuck. Bacon and shrimp needs to be whole slices of bacon, not a mess of mash. Very disappointing as this has been a favorite place of ours. We'll see how it is over the next few months.
