Commander Restaurant & Bar

Thursday night at 4:40, we got takeout here. Pickup was fine, we had to wait at the bar for a few minutes, but then we were greeted and our order brought to us. The bar area was clean with both a bar and tables to sit at. We ordered the Garbage pizza and Cheesy garlic bread. Both were good. The pizza was probably a 3/5 and the cheesy bread was a 5/5 - the garlic was very noticeable and so good. We'd get pizza here again.

We enjoy visiting with staff at the bar and listening to music. We have tried almost everything on the menu. Excellent chicken, steak and pizza.

This is just a typical up north bar with bar food. That being said, the wait staff was attentive and brought pitchers of beer to our table quickly. Our group of 4 shared nachos and 2 pizzas. The garbage pizza was surprisingly filling. We had almost an entire pizza leftover. We were happy to watch sports games on the big TVs while we ate. Not my favorite place in the area, but a good hangout with plenty of space.

I was recommended this place by a coworker who has been there before. I was in town visiting from San Diego, and it was a great comfortable feeling with very good pizza. I would recommend the Garbage pizza and the cheeseburger pizza to anyone looking for a pub style pizza. We had a large group and had a great time.

I went for breakfast this morning. The garbage omelet was awesome My wife ordered the blueberry pancakes. Huge and delicious !Great service too!

If you ask anyone to visualize a Northern Minnesota resort town that contains merely a golf course, boats, cabins, and a couple bars, nearly everyone would describe The Commander correctly. Dark wood exterior nestled off the county road amongst the pines? Yes, check. A long bar scattered with Townies drinking tap Michelob and watching college football? Yep. A menu featuring a Friday night fish special and Saturday night Prime rib? You betcha!! There's pull tabs, live music on the weekends, and an event space for a retirement party or 50th Birthday. But here's THE reason to come. Garbage Pizza. OMG. My midwest proclivity for a thinish (not super thin) crust, cheese ladened, cut in squares pizza has been completely gratified. And to all of you who don't understand the importance of squares then you must experience one of the four highly sought after crispy corners of the pie. Listen, I'm not exaggerating when I say there are people out there with scars from losing the race to score a tiny, scarce, one inch corner of a pizza sliced in this manner. Anyway, the Garbage Pizza is piled with pepperoni, sausage, canadian bacon, onions, mushrooms, peppers, and olives. Perfection, right? My Dad, who orders a burger Every. Single. Time. no matter where we go (He's like Groundhog Day) said his burger was great too. He's a tough critic on burgers as he describes most as not worth the price. With all of that said, I'm officially bestowing The Commander as my first choice for dinner when I'm too lazy to grill at the Cabin. Or if it's raining, or if I'm sunburned, or if I'm....you get the picture...

Go to this bar if you want to go to sleep. No music. No ambiance. No personality. Nothing! If you want to annoy someone today go to the Commander and ask the crabby bartender for a drink and watch his eyes roll. If you have five bucks that is all you will need because you won't be able to spend it. Get a library card and save your time.

Just gross. Its a bar not a restaurant so keep that in mind. Some of my family chose this place to meet up at for a dinner we were having and it was unappealing. it smelled of unclean bar and the place got packed and it was swarming with over drunk vacationers.

Best pizza around. Lots of sauce and toppings make out to be a great pie. Crispy crust.

DON'T GO! They have a mask Nazi that will yell at you if you even stand up at your table without a mask. Actually yelled at us to put our fucking mask on. Super classy...it took 2 hours to get food as well and it wasn't even good. I'm warning you! Don't go! It was not enjoyable at all.
