Kate K. "Had a great experience with a very nice server last week at the Lowry for brunch! I would give five stars for the service, but took away a star because I ordered the walleye eggs benedict and thought it was decent, but not very flavorful. The eggs were cooked perfectly though! Second, the atmosphere itself is super nice, but unfortunately given the location, there were multiple homeless people who came in and had a few back and forths with the manager. Everyone was cordial and there wasn't a true issue in the end. We were seated right next to the door, so if we were further into the restaurant this could easily be prevented from interrupting your meal, but unfortunately we were right next to it. I want to come back for their specials at the bar! Food and drink specials that look like a great deal!"

If you didn't see the reel, broken glass and my finger had a tussle. This neighborhood restaurant and bakery bustled with smiling faces from staff to patrons. What I ordered: The Biscuit Sammie! A cheddar buttermilk thyme biscuits with a maple fennel sausage layered with delicious was everything. My only disappointment was that with the situation occurring I was not able to eat it hot. I believe it would have been chefs kiss. So I have to do a redo... I also ordered a cinnamon roll, which I later enjoyed. It was a lot bread but yummy all the same. I would share it next time because it was alot for me! Overall it is a place I want to try again."

The burrito was full of cilantro and there was no sauce included. After it was deconstructed to remove the cilantro, it was delicious, but that was a lot of work to be able to enjoy it.I would give this order 5 stars just for the deliciousness of the food (after cilantro was removed), but the special instructions not being followed really bummed me out. I have to order delivery because I'm disabled and don't have a car. I only get it like once a month due to budget constraints so it does really matter when my food isn't quite what I ordered."

It wasn't busy at all, just some families and friends enjoying their time together during happy hour with friendly and fast waitresses that check up on you often!I ordered the Salmon Scramble that was made with salmon, eggs, a shallot cream cheese, and thinly sliced red onions. The dish itself came with raspberry jam, choice of toast, and hash browns or salad. The eggs already had a fluffy texture, so the added cream cheese highlighted that while giving that onion flavor. I also ordered a tomato basil soup, which was okay, to say the least. The crackers were goldfish, and the soup itself had a more sour/acidic taste to it compared to others i've tried in the area."

We ordered some burgers and a beer for our furry friend. The food came out timely, it was hot, and seasoned perfectly. I could have ordered a second if it weren't so filling. I had a burger with garlic aioli, red onion, and cheese, and it was delicious. I upgraded to fries as well, and they were so good. I HIGHLY recommend The Block for a good burger. We also brought our dog. It was his first time out, so we were prepared to leave in case he was behaving or uncomfortable, but he did so well. That is also because the tables on the patio are well-spaced. He did quite care for the dog beer until we went home and could drink it in his own bowl, but that's not on The Block. He did chug it once we got home! The staff was also wonderful. They clearly understand the nuances of dog ownership and are adaptable. They loved saying hi to our dog. Whether you have a dog or not, I highly recommend the block for a burger, beer, and a good time!"

My friend and I went here for my birthday dinner and we got:Cuban samplerChicharron de polloSteak and shrimp Al AjilloWhite sangria The sampler was absolutely delicious. My friend and I loved the croquettes. she said that was her favorite. It was crispy on the outside and creamy inside. The pork belly was so yummy too. The sauces they gave were all very tasty and perfect for what we had. My friends chicharron de pollo was delicious. Flash fried chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Highly recommend. My shrimp and steak however needed more seasoning. I'm not sure what was up with that but the sauce and the steak both needed more seasoning. It was a bit bland. I also wish I had more rice but that's just a personal amount preference since I looooove rice! The plantains and shrimp were my favorite part about this dish. Plantains were perfectly caramelized and the shrimp was seasoned well and wasn't over cooked. The white sangria was delicious though! Not too sweet which can happen easily with white wine. The service was great. They were busier when we arrived but the food arrived at a decent time. I would love to go back and give them another chance because there was more pros than cons."

The standout food is paired with fast, friendly service, and a cozy environment that makes you want to be a regular. Esther L. "I've been here 10x.The good? Prime location. Ive never had to wait long to get seated here, in groups of 2-8, even without a reservation- they dont seem to accept them. For this reason, 3 stars instead of 2. So when your friends move to or live in St Paul, and youre scared to cross the Mississippi, you could meet them here. You could take turns crossing the bridge to meet and eat with said friends, and alternate between Highland Grill (sister establishment). The AM happy hour is cute, makes me feel seen. The beverage menu is decent and varied. The meh? Food/flavor + portion vs price. Flaccid fries. Sigh.Recently the kitchen whipped up some Asian marinated wings for me. I am "Asian". I did not order Asian wings; I would not order Asian things at a... place of uhhhm unmarked culture. The flavor of burnt soy sauce is a special kind of punishment, and I probably deserved a little punishment that day. The staff earnestly tried to repair this mishap and bring me what I had ordered/wanted: buffalo wings. Earnestly and... Profusely and... Uncomfortably.Note to menu writer: Maybe the menu description is at fault here for its ambiguity. Neither marinade bore any resemblance to franks+butter so Im not sure how the word "buffalo" and the word "or" operate in this item. Or maybe "minnesota spicy" is at fault here for ruining wings with worse-than-ketchup weak sauce. Alas. I have had better experiences here in the past and Im sure I will have better experiences here to come. Because Longfellow Grill is so lovely in its location- for those dear friends, I would even pay to eat this food. I hope this place improves on its food game and continues to succeed in the neighborhood!"

Connor G. "Alright, let's talk about NOLO's Kitchen & Bar in Minneapolis--a spot that nails the balance between casual comfort and elevated flavors. Tucked in the North Loop, it's got that trendy but unpretentious vibe, the kind of place where you can roll in for a chill lunch or come back later for cocktails and a good time.I went for the chicken rice bowl, and honestly? Solid choice. The flavors were on point, the portion was just right for lunch (enough to satisfy but not send me into a food coma), and the chicken was nicely done. My only gripe? The carrots. They were cut a little too hefty, which made them awkward to eat--I like a veggie that cooperates with my fork, you know?Presentation-wise, it could've been a little more polished, but at the end of the day, taste wins, and it delivered. The space itself feels inviting, like somewhere you'd meet up with friends for a low-key meal but then get convinced to stay for "just one more drink." Which, honestly, I wouldn't be mad about.Would I come back? Absolutely. But next time, I'm thinking dinner and a cocktail--because if the food's this good at lunch, I bet the evening menu is even better."

The breakfast menu is a bit on the smaller side but I was able to order an espresso martini, the breakfast tacos, a side of bacon, and we split an order of 2 of their huge pancakes. I thought the potatoes in the tacos took away from the chorizo and egg flavor but the side of bacon was so perfectly cooked I had to order another serving! Dennis A. "A true survivor, Jax has proved itself to be the best year over year. Five of us were here for a birthday dinner on a Thursday evening and it was absolutely delightful. It's business casual dress for the most part but the decor is old school elegant. If you make reservations early (suggested) they will print their characteristic matchbooks for the table, which provide a lasting memento of the occasion. Plenty of space between tables, ambient lighting, warm and quiet enough to carry on a conversation with your party while sharing the convivial atmosphere with other restaurant guests. Our wait person was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly -- without being overly familiar or chatty. I see that some previous reviewers had mixed opinions about the quality of their food, but our experience was quite the opposite. There were five of us and our menu selections ranged from seafood to beef, with vegetable sides and salad. All of it was perfectly prepared and the cooked entrees arrived simultaneously at our table while still hot from the kitchen. In particular, a couple of us enjoyed the filet mignon broiled to the exact medium rare. Mashed potatoes, which are ho-hum in most restaurants were elevated to a creamy richness here. Oven roasted asparagus complimented with a savory bearnaise is my choice for a side. Lastly, unlike some downtown venues, their Northeast location allows for ample parking in a flat lot directly across the street. No charge."

They offer a great breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner, and have tons of different options from MN themed foods like hot dish and spam themed (okay these are novelties, spam is disgusting, yes we all know it) to cute grazing boards and steaks. They seem to change the menu seasonally, so some of the things in my photo aren't offered right now. The fries trio is no longer gluten free, which was a big blow to my family. I also definitely recommend making reservations if you are doing dinner. They can get very busy and have a significant wait time. Honestly even at lunchtime occasionally there is a wait.I gave it four stars instead of five, because no matter how busy it is, the service is always just a little bit off.
