Boulder Tap House is a mid sized restaurant chain with 10 locations across MN and IA (and one new one in WI). The defining features are a very large list of beers on tap and a big burger menu. When deciding if to eat here at the Mankato branch, the most burning question is: how does it compare to the Buffalo Wild Wings across the street??The bottom line: Boulder Tap House has a large, interesting menu that dinners will enjoy reading over and discussing, but ultimately takes a hit in terms of quality control. Interesting menu: Choose from traditional or boneless wings with 13 different sauce options, else peruse a selection of 16 different burgers with 3 different patty blends! (Angus chuck, butter burger, or 60/40 beef-angus patty). Quality control: they suffer in details like fried pickles that stick together in a clump, burgers that are dense, dry/over cooked, and variable french fry quality -- a franchise like BWW will often have better quality control. The service was good, our waitress was nice! Vibe is very sports bar.Ultimately, this is a more expensive option compared to the BWW across the street and the food isn't quite as good. I would say eat here if the menu draws you in, but manage expectations and look elsewhere if you want a fantastic meal.Final bit: 3 or 4 stars. When I cook myself a burger at home, it is juicy and delicious. My Reaper Burger had some nice toppings - jalapeno bacon, and a truly spicy "inferno sauce" but the burger patty was not up to par - too dense and dry. There are 10 of these restaurants - I think about their patrons and think they deserve a better burger. Restaurant management: maybe go back to the basics try to solve this before you open restaurant #11. 3 stars

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!! My fiance and I decided to try somewhere new cuz we always go to either Applebees or Olive Garden when we come to Mankato, picked this place.... One word: AMAZING!!!!! The waitress was super friendly and very nice. The tables were cleaned off and looked nicely put together, I enjoy the atmosphere. The food was soooo good!! The price wasn't bad either. We will definitely be back!

Food is fine; had jalapeño egg rolls which are good but the Korean sauce not so good; mango sauce is good.Bartender is not happy, cordial or worth any of your time. So surprising because 99.9% of the time I can get at least 1 smile; he did NOT need to be at work today!

I will say, I miss the smash burgers. The new burger patties are definitely missing a crust, so they are missing flavor. They Reaper burger is HOT. I handled it well, just a little runny nose, but I needed a lot of water. The inferno sauce isn't just spicy, it has great flavor too. I appreciate the addition of deep fried pickle chips over the spears they used to have, however they come out really clumped up. There is no way to grab just one pickle chip. I'm not in love with the new menu yet. YET.

Can we take a moment to say.. holy NACHOS! Some of the best nachos I've had, and plenty to go around. Restaurant seemed a little short staffed, but the service we did receive was great. Great place to watch Saturday night college football with tv's lining the restaurant! Super fun / lively atmosphere, don't come here expecting a low-key, quiet night!

I gave it a second try. I got a pulled pork sandwich with fries and all of it was very tasty! Sandwich was maybe a tad too sweet, I prefer a spicy bbq sauce. Server was attentive and brought me a second beer shortly after my first was empty. No empty drink while eating, yay !

I needed something to eat, a cold drink and a place to hang out between games at the MN State High School Softball Tournament. The Boulder Tap House was where I headed. Felt like I should have had a burger since that seemed to be the specialty, but I opted for the Tequila lime chicken tacos with chips and salsa and a left hand milk stout to wash it down. All very good. I really liked the grilled taco shells. It was definitely more than one person needed to eat for lunch. I boxed up the chips for later. Service was excellent. I was hanging out for a couple of hours doing work and reading a book as I waited. My booth was tucked away so it was quiet. Great place to hang for an afternoon.

Decided to give this place a try wo reading the reviews. Burger - for the price small and over cooked. Onion rings, greasy and lacked flavor. Ordered the jalapeño cheese rolls- terrible every time I bit into one grease shot out every where. My recommend stay away, not worth the $. And to give you one last poke in the butt, the tight wad owners charge 3.0 if you use a credit card. Maybe concentrate on the food quality. On a positive note- they have a nice selection of local beers for a reasonably price. If you go, Go for the beer.

food was so so, waitresses forgot my chilI, then gave me attitude about it. Once I got my chili it was ice cold, called her back over and her attitude got worwe. She slammed down the bowl of chili and walked away never once apologized for for the mix up or it being cold. I would pass on this place if you're looking for good food and friendly service
