Birchwood Pit Stop & BBQ

Looks like Ed's gets the last review I write in 2021. That's fitting as I had what was definitely the best Reuben of the year at their place. I've had a bunch of their smoked meats and they are uniformly delicious. Good smoke flavor, nice rub and great bark. That applies to their pulled pork, brisket, pastrami and ribs. Located in a gas station like all the best places way down south. I've eaten here a handful of times when I'm at the lake and have loved everything I've tried this far. Super happy to have this resource (gas, select groceries, fresh pizza, local ice cream, souvenirs too) only 2 miles away. Family owned and operated. This is a place you need in your life!

We've frequented Ed's for years. No more. We are over 90 minutes into waiting for two sandwiches. Place is empty. Told me 20 minutes ago that it'd be ready in 2.

Great food ! Never disappointed !! Don't forget to get some ice cream after eating their BBQ. The place is clean , busy , and friendly employees . A hidden gem in northern Wisconsin .

Whether you call it broasted chicken or best chicken, you're right. We ate this many times on our frequent Birchwood visits, that are now fewer and further between. We miss it. In fact, we loved this chicken so much we are planning to fly in for lunch when the weather warms up a bit more. Literally.

Occasion: Local bbq joint near our lake houseCouldn't wait to check this place out while we were in the area recently as it's likely to be our new local hangout. Wasn't sure what to expect of this gas station/convenience store/quick service bbq restaurant/ice cream store/?!?!Seems like a place that tries to do so many things would struggle to get them all right, but from what I can tell they do a bang up job. The bbq was delicious - my test is whether or not I feel compelled to sauce it and not here. The sides were also formidable. We split a 2 meat platter and it was a nice size for us to split as a small dinner.Learned about a new product while I was there - the ice cream pint coozy. Some would probably say it's designed to take a pint home on a hot day but it would also work like a beer coozy to take a pint to go;)Went back the next night to try the ice cream and were not disappointed. They're short-staffed right now so they're using commercially procured waffle cones at the moment, so I'm hoping to try a homemade one on a future visit. Note: Please be patient with them. Like everywhere else, they are short staffed and struggling to stay open. I overheard one of them tell another that she came in on her day off to fill in for a few and ended up putting in a 13-hour day. And they still manage to be courteous and cheerful in the face of criticism from carry out customers. Best BBQ around! The pastrami is to die for good. Ribs, Brisket and Pork are all outstanding. Nice clean atmosphere. Also serve Fish, Pizza, Coffee and Ice Cream.

Stopped here while in Rice Lake and really enjoyed the meal. The cheese curds were excellent and haven't had ones that good in awhile.Wife had the pulled pork and it was moist and flavorful. I had the jalapeño burger, while not perfect was a good burger and wasn't too spicy. The fries were also excellent, typically don't eat all my fries but that was one of the times I did, nice and crunchy.

Great barbecue and you could always have ice cream for dessert. I will definitely be going back again and again.

yuck. food has really gone downhill since this was acquired by the co-op. inaccurate food orders. everything tastes old staff is friendly, but it elsewhere

Ed's Pitstop is overlooked because they are a gas station and convenient store. Their barbecue is amazing. They smoke their meats daily and offer pizza, burgers, fish and so much more. The staff is friendly and are always cleaning. The prices are reasonable and the quality is stellar. Never had a less than excellent meal here. It's so worth the stop.Did I mention they have Gourmet Ice Cream and Coffee?
