I love Afro Deli, especially this location! I typically visit the one on Washington Avenue, but I found myself at this one during a couple of days I spent downtown. The setup at this Afro Deli is a build-your-own style. I chose to build my own chapati wrap. The staff was very patient with me and offered great suggestions for flavor combinations. Everyone was super friendly and kind--shoutout to them! The portions are huge--I had enough for both lunch and dinner. Their fries are amazing, and the sauce on the side is even better. I'd definitely order more of it on the side next time. Please support this local business; it's one of my favorites in the metro!

The food was great, it was my first time coming here so I wasn't really sure what to order. You get plenty of food for the price, so well worth it. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. There is a nice seating area on the side, which was perfect for a work lunch outing. My coworker did mention that usually the line is pretty long, but we got here around 1:30pm and it wasn't too bad!

Afro Deli has a few locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul and this Skyway location has labeled vegan items catering to office workers.I got the veggie sambusa ($2.50) which tasted pretty good, though I wish the lentil filling had more seasoning. The green chili salsa on the side was fresh, though not spicy.Afro Deli also labels its vegan items (options include a curry, falafel and a couple sides).Afro Deli is maybe the only Somali/East African restaurants in the Twin Cities that labels its vegan items. I applaud them for that and look forward to returning.

Love the downtown location. Food is always fresh and the staff are pleasant and quick to provide their service with a smile. The chicken samosa is definitely my favorite along with the chapati wrap with the Somali rice!

I met up with a friend downtown for lunch and she suggested this restaurant since it had just opened up a few months back. There are several other locations though so if you don't want to make the trek downtown - you got options! :) Metered street parking was pretty easy for me to find but I think I just got lucky and came at 11:10am - a little before the lunch rush. The restaurant itself is pretty colorful and has more seating than I expected for a skyway restaurant. It's also a quick bite so even if you can't find a seat right away, another is sure to open up! I did notice that it started getting really packed around 12 so be forewarned. My friend and I both got the lamb gyro plate and it was sooo delicious! Lots of thick pieces of lamb gyro were the stars of this restaurant. It came with lettuce, tomato, onions, tzatziki sauce all on a pita and a side of spicy garlic mayo dipping sauce for the fries. We loved everything especially how big, juicy, and tender the meat was. For $8.29, it was a great deal. A larger portion than other similar restaurants in the skyway. I had enough leftovers for another meal. I also absolutely loved the fries. They really know how to make them right because they tasted fresh and were perfectly crispy. Just the way I like them!

The only real downside this restaurant has is that they close at 2:30. I love seeing chapati and sambusas on the menu. The flavors are great.

I have heard of the hype of Afro Deli for years but had never gone myself, so I was ecstatic when I saw they were opening in the skyways. Opening day I got there around 10:55 (they opened at 11), and there already was a line that continued to form long after I ordered my food. The employees definitely knew what they were doing, and service was quick and professional even on opening day. I had the curry and my friend had the chicken fantastic- and both were fantastic. I crowd sourced what to order based on my friends that used to eat Afro Deli a lot in undergrad, and the consensus seems to be that you can't order wrong here, everything is delicious.

I ordered a catered lunch for an event in late June. I placed the order more than one week in advance. The first issue was that I gave clear instructions as to my needs. I got pushback from Afro Deli. I knew what I needed and why. I was willing to pay for what I needed and was asking for. If Afro Deli doesn't want customers to request extra sambusas that they are willing to pay for, say that. Tell customers that they are not allowed to request and pay for extra sambusas, put that information on the catering form, so that customers will know not to go there with you. There was no need for me to have get into a tug of war with Chef Moussa over whether he agreed with me that extra sambusas were necessary. If I, as the paying customer, say that they are necessary, then they are necessary. Yet Chef Moussa thought he knew more than I did and attempted to tell me what to order. I knew that Afro Deli's boxed lunches were not going to be enough food for the work meeting planned. That is why I requested extra sambusas. On top of that I did not get the amount of extras that I requested. That was a mistake on Afro Deli's part. The next issue was the lack of communication in the days leading up to the catered lunch event. I followed up to make sure that certain items would not be in any of food due to food sensitives on the part of several meeting attendees. No response form Afro Deli/Chef Moussa. That was a mistake on Afro Deli's part. The third semi-related issue was my catering ordering being excessively late, and the lack of forewarning or any communication about it. I was on the phone on hold for 20 minutes. I had a room full of people expecting lunch and lunch was nowhere to be found and Afro Deli and Chef Moussa were not responding to my phone call nor my message through the catering order portal. So far as I am concerned, three mistakes in a row and all three being avoidable, I am out. I will NEVER order anything from Afro Deli again. This was second and last catering order with them. The first catered lunch last month went smooth at $500. This second order at $700 was rocky from the start. As someone who self-identifies as BIPOC, when I try to support BIPOC-owned businesses, all I want and expect in return is professionalism in the form of good follow up communications, listening to what I need instead of telling me I need/or am going to get, and be on time (or at least let me know in advance of any delays). That was a mistake on Afro Deli's part. In the end as the company that I work for was paying for this lunch, I did pay a tip on behalf of the company. It was not for the service or Afro Deli, it was for the workers who had no control over the mistakes made by Afro Deli owners e.g., Chef Moussa. I will never order catered lunches from Afro Deli again, nor will I go there or order from there personally. Afro Deli and Chef Moussa DO BETTER! You are BIPOC, you must represent BIPOC better than how you did.

I've been telling all my friends... some of them already knew about the absolute awesomeness and some had no idea! Wondering what the spicy green side is called?! Yumzzzzz 100% fabulous.
