MingHin is my go-to dim sum place in Chicago. I would skip the MingHin locations outside of Chinatown since the options are not nearly as vast, good, or fresh. I came here with a group of 5 this past Sunday morning at around 10:30. We ordered a bunch of dim sum basics and enjoyed most of it!I definitely would recommend the siu mai, chicken feet, har gow, shrimp rice crepes, sesame balls, and steamed pork & taro! The ones we got were really fresh. The egg custard buns were good, but the yolk wasn't the lava texture I imagined (more like a paste instead). If you want to splurge, definitely get the stir-fried pea sheets with garlic. The ones we got were super fresh and had a lot of "wok hay" flavor. You also can't go wrong with the beef chow fun.I didn't really like the egg tart that much since the puff pastry was soggy and the custard itself was pretty boring. The steamed roasted pork bun also had a weird taste to it.Other than that, great experience. We got our food pretty quickly and I'd recommend making a reservation in advance so you for sure will have a table. It gets really busy on the weekends!

I dined at MingHin Cuisine on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at 10:30 am. I think MingHin offers a clean dim sum dining experience that many of those typical Chinese restaurants in Chinatowns across the United States lack. As a lover of Chinese cuisine and dim sum, I highly recommend MingHin if you're looking for a dim sum restaurant in Chicago. Their menu is massive! The food here not only tasted fresh and tasty, but also very HOT! Many dim sum restaurants push the dim sum carts around to each table, which I think is the traditional and fun experience of eating at a dim sum restaurant. But many times, the food that comes to the table is room temperature or lukewarm at best. At MingHin, you do not have to worry about the food being cold because the food is ordered ahead of time by marking checkboxes on a paper menu. So the only carts you'll be waiting for are the ones that have exactly the plates you ordered. I ordered the har gow, which is one of my favorites. Simple shrimp dumpling that didn't fall apart when picked up. The barbecued pork was flavorful and moist. Beef chow fun was average that could use some more of the char. The chili oil cucumber was light and complemented the other dishes well. Service could be better. It took a long time for the server to come to our table to take our order and to come back and get the bill. However the food was decent enough that I think was worth the wait.

The service was terrible. Many of the servers did not speak English. My husband and I sat down and was very confused about how to order and we waited about 15 minutes to speak with someone. As far as the food, The dimsum lunch special was decently good. The dishes were mediocre.

Finally came back here after 7 years. Had to upgrade my review from a 3 to a 5 star. I think coming here on a busy weekend like Chinese new years made the service not so good last time. This time around, we were able to get a table without having to wait and received relatively quick service and most importantly delicious food. This tablet placed on the table was a little confusing at first, especially if you want to order from the Dim Sum menu. I accidentally left an order of potstickers in my cart on the tablet, and it was brought to my table along with my dim sum order of pot stickers. Whoops! Luckily I love pot stickers so no biggie, but something to be careful about. Aside from the Pot Stickers, we ordered their Short Rib w/ honey sauce, Fried Sticky Rice, BBQ Pork Crepe, and Steamed BBQ Pork Bun. Everything was delicious. I was really surprised on how great the BBQ Pork Crepe was. The steamed bbq pork bun is always a family favorite. The sticky rice tasted a little fishy but still delicious. Will definitely be returning, hopefully a lot sooner than 7 years!

BACKGROUNDHaving grown up on dim sum, I knew I had to include at least one dim sum restaurant on my food itinerary when I visited Chicago. When researching the best locations, the same names kept popping, so I assumed they were all high caliber. I chose MingHin Cuisine because it was in the center of Chinatown, and it'd be easy to peruse the other stores afterwards.TIPSI made a reservation on their website for two people for 11:00 AM on a Tuesday. When we arrived, there were many open booths, so we didn't even have to mention that we had a reservation and were seated right away. Maybe you only need to do it if you're planning to eat on the weekends during busy hours. Also, I'm not sure if the reservation system even works since it didn't ask me to confirm the day before, which is usually the norm. FOODWhen my friend and I ate here (May 2024), the prices for each dim sum size were:S $5.75M $6.35L $6.95We ordered eight dishes: * Deep Fried Pork Dumpling (S)* BBQ Pork Bun (M)* Beef Tripe with Ginger and Onion (M)* Chicken Feet with Special Sauce (M)* Pan Fried Corn & Pork Cake (M)* Shrimp Crepe (L)* Shrimp Dumplings (L)* Siu Mai (L)Overall, the service was great. Once we were seated at our table, an employee handed us a dim sum menu that had pictures of the food with the names and tiny white squares (you use a pen to fill out these squares to indicate which items you want). There's also an iPad if you want to order non dim sum dishes like vegetables, BBQ meats, noodles and fried rice, and other options, but we didn't go that route. When we finished marking up the menu, the employee was pretty quick with getting the order in.When the food was ready, the employees wheeled out the food in carts and went around the tables, distributing the items. So we received our food in waves instead of all at once, which is typical for dim sum restaurants.Starting off with the negatives: Both the shrimp crepe and the pan fried corn and pork cake were room temperature, so I'm assuming they sat for a bit before being delivered to our table. Also, the beef tripe with ginger onion was disappointing. I've definitely had better before. On the bright side, everything else was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the dishes, and they tasted exactly like what I grew up eating. In my opinion, this was a lot of tasty food for two people, and it didn't break the bank (almost $70 total after tax and tip). I'm not sure how MingHin compares to the other well-known dim sum restaurants in Chicago, but I would highly recommend it if you want good dim sum at a decent price in the heart of Chinatown.

This is a great place to go. If you want to go somewhere that's still open pretty late. The service went by really quick the waitress moved very fast which was nice to see cause we didn't have to wait long. It was very large place on the inside so they can see a lot of people at once. I thought my food is OK I ate the Hable chow mein. I definitely need some sauce to go with it or something because it was a tad bit too dry but my friend liked her shrimp fried rice.

Ming hin has been one of our staples for dim sum cravings. They have a great selection of dim sum choices and you'll never get bored with their flavors and options. The service is fast sufficient, food has always been on point. My favorite is the beef meat balls with the dark sauce on the side, shrimp or beef crepes, fried taro, sticky rice, shrimp with chives dumplings, and their congees! The restaurant itself can be super loud cause it's always so crowded in a huge space.

Ate here today with my parents and sister to try this place out for brunch. We had definitely brought different kinds of food to share together to at least satisfy our taste. It was definitely great and delicious. The service there was also attentive. Finally, I will come back again next time when I visit Chicago.

Authentic dim sum.Seriously speaking, you know you're in for a treat when you not only see reviews raving about a place but have people of the culture of the restaurant munching away happily. That said, we had landed in Chicago, checked into the hotel, and three of us (myself included) were debating where to go get lunch. We wound up choosing to go to Chinatown as we had one member in our group not feeling her best and she wanted some soup.We ended up ordering a bunch of plates. Some soup, shrimp crepes, shumai, shrimp rolls, BBQ pork buns, and egg custard tarts adorned our table. When I say we ate like queens, we honestly and truly did. We even had minor leftovers and had we had microwaves at the hotel, I would have at least jumped to keep these leftovers. To think I had been to Chicago before this trip and not gone to Chinatown - that is a real travesty. Luckily that's been remedied and this restaurant was a legit joy. I only wish we had had the traditional dim sum carts.

We went here for dinner Friday evening with some friends. It was quite busy but we were seated immediately. This was everybody's first time here and we weren't sure how it works. No one explained how to order etc we had to eventually flag down a waiter to explain. They can definitely improve on that or check if it's your first time here. Anycase, u order your food and drinks on the iPad, add it to the cart and then submit your order. There's a separate paper menu where u select items and the waiter comes to get it.This place is great for sharing different dishes. We ordered so much food.... and it all was so good & flavorful. The short ribs was my favorite and the shrimp crepes. The condiments they provide was a perfect addition to the meals. They also give u a complimentary pot of green tea. We also ordered a couple of cocktails and sake- it was ok.They have quite a big menu so we'll be back to try some new dishes.*the bill came to about little over $150 (for the amount of food I think it's a decent price**if it's your first time let them know so that they can explain how it works***parking can be hard to find especially on a Friday night in China town
