Zwiegs Grill opened Memorial Day weekend in 1946. It opened my Helen and Grover Zwieg. Glenn, their 2nd child purchased it in the mid 70's and has run it since then with his "Heart on her sleeve" wife. She has been the full-time morning cook for several years and a darn good one at that! They offer actual home cooked meals, the old-fashioned way, made there daily. Fresh patties are used for their burgers from a local butcher. If you are old enough to remember the show ALICE, that is exactly the type of place this is! A diner that is family, all the way down to the regular customers that come in. They say, "Home is where the heart is," and in my case, and many others, this is true..... Thanks for the great memories. Thank you for being my support group for the majority of my life and giving me a place to call home! Get a job you love, and it will never be going to work. It's just going home....Carol Aka: short stuff, Ditzy and LB.

Terrible food. Terrible service. Hotter than Phoenix in July. Was there with my wife and mother. It was 80 degrees outside and about 110 degrees inside the restaurant. Tables were too close together. My breakfast was perhaps the worst that I ever had. My hash browns were black, toast was cold, eggs were inedible. My wife's pancakes were charred. We had 3 or 4 bites then told the waitress that the food was awful. She said, "what am I supposed to do about it?" How about offer to remake the food or take it off our bill? I wanted to leave money for the sodas and leave. My wife insisted we pay the full bill even though we ate 5% of our atrocious food. It pained me to pay for such a terrible experience. I travel extensively and have eaten at restaurants in 36 of the 50 states and this is the worst breakfast and second worst meal at a restaurant that I have ever had. Only the Luxor Casino buffet in Las Vegas was worse and that's only because it made my wife and I horribly sick. I have to assume that based on the fact that the restaurant was packed, that most people around here have never left this area and actually experienced edible restaurant food before.

tl;dr Zwieg's is the definition of a greasy spoon. You can decide if that is a positive or not.I've had Zwieg's bookmarked for almost a year, so I was excited to finally be in Watertown around lunchtime. The interior is as expected for an oder joint. It's a small building with counter service, an addition with some tables, and that's about it. Everything is clean, just dated, which is just A-OK in my book for a place like this.I ordered the cheeseburger with grilled onions, as well as the onion rings and a soda. My mother ordered the reuben (she orders a reuben at every restaurant we go to), soup of the day which was turkey dumpling, and a chocolate milk. My mom felt the soup was too salty, so I finished it for her. I liked the thicker broth, the dumplings were good, and the turkey was a nice change from the usual chicken. Sure, it was a tad salty, but I'd order it again. Our main meals came out, and, well, my excitement for Zwieg's diminished. The reuben, for being one of the most expensive sandwiches on the menu, was one of the worst my mom has ever had. She said it was essentially a cheap grilled cheese with a few thin pieces of bland, perhaps even canned, corned beef. The cheeseburger was in dire need of seasoning. The burger was just a bland mess. On a positive note, they didn't skimp on the grilled onions. It was actually way more than needed, so I brushed a good chunk of them off and I happily devoured them with a fork. The breading of the onion rings were soft and fell apart as soon as you touched them.Somehow, our bill was over $20. I grabbed a menu and added it all up, and it was correct... but that was way more than we expected for a small and mediocre lunch. I doubt I'll be back... the only thing making me consider a second try is that they serve broasted chicken, which seems to have a good amount of positive reviews.

Flattop grill- ordered a double cheese burger. The patties are premade 1/4 patties. Cooked with no seasoning Crinkle cut fries and soda.Soda was good and the fries also. The burger left a lot to be desired that wasn't there. What drew me in was the sign out front about being established 1946Not worth the return

A cute little diner, kind of like the old days. Traditional foods with breakfast all day.I had a double burger and fries. AND THE FRIES HAD NO SKINS!! yeah yeah.My wife had a patty melt with extra cheese and she said it was excellent. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. The waitress (Carol) was friendly and rather funny. Our meal arrived quickly and was nice and hot.Prices very reasonable.Nice to go to a place that serves the basics without a bunch of weird things on the menu that are hard to pronounce!

I stumbled on this place about a week ago and since I was going to be kind of in the area I stopped and I put it on my list of old school places I was going to try that day. This place is more than 50 years old so they must be doing something right. The place is small with an l shaped old school lunch counter with a small dining room on the side. There is a grill area behind the lunch counter and a kitchen in the back. The place looks like it has expanded over the years with additional add on to the building that don't match.I know they are known for the burgers but I saw a broasted chicken dinner on the menu I knew what I was having. It is a half children, 4 pieces with a fresh roll, potato, coleslaw and cranberry sauce. I chose the mash and gravy as my potato and knew minutes later that I made a mistake because I saw a box of hungry Jack instant potatoes in the kitchen so I got worried about the whole meal. One very good sign is that the chicken is cooked to order, thank you and see my pictures. The chicken took a little while so I chatted up the servers and everyone was very nice with the whole service I received. The chicken looked and smelled good I must say. The mash and gravy were was just ok with the potatoes being very loose for mash potatoes. The food was served hot so be carefully especially the chicken. OMG, OMG, OMG was the chicken super moist and juicy with a nice thin crispy coating of what ever they coat the chicken with. The chicken was tender and juicy and not tough at all like some lay around fried chicken can be.Over all the chicken was very good but it could have been seasoned better and I did have the option to salt it up but I didn't because it was still good. The broasted chicken was a great example of broasted/fried chicken that had everything going for it that I like. I would definitely try to get over to them again when I'm in the area and probably never have there famous burger after having the broasted chicken. Great job and two thumbs up.

Great little place in Watertown we found when passing through. Our granddaughters said their chicken strips were the best ever. I tried one and agree. Nice seasoning and juicy on the inside. There is a nice patio for eating outside with flowers all around it.

Was passing through Watertown, had skipped lunch, and really only needed a snack to hold me through until dinner. Was planning on getting some sort of value menu deal from Hardee's but they let me down. But what's this hole in the wall dinner that looks unchanged since the 1960s? I love those type of places. I walk in, there's a lunch counter, a menu on the wall, and a griddle right in front. Cash only. I'm the only customer and the server is friendly. I ask for recommendations but she's no help in narrowing it down. So many things are good. Prime Rib burger catches my eye. Never heard of that, but I need to try it. Bacon and grilled onions? Yes. It was good enough to not need any sauce and I ate it en route to my next appointment, grease dripping into my beard.I dont know what reason I'd have to be in Watertown but dammit I'm going to find one.
