First of all the service was impeccable. I cannot rave enough about how while we were taken care of. We were there as a large private party so we did not get to experience the ambiance of the restaurant. Now this review can get serious... let's talk about the food. When you first read the menu, the pricing can be intimidating so make sure you know what you're looking at. We tried multiple different appetizers. All were fantastic. The lobster bisque was hands-down the best I have ever eaten. The salads were beautiful and well put together. By the time the entrées came out we were pretty full, but couldn't help but continue eating. The entire menu is à la cart so you build your entrée plate.most had steaks and a few grabbed the chicken. Reports were that the bone in style chicken was unexpected and it ended up kind of dry but the pesto sauce was really good. The steaks were all cooked to perfection! The peppercorn crust on mine was awesome and I recommend. I added on the mushroom medley and the sautéed onions for the extra flavor and gave it two thumbs up. The mushroom risotto and the asparagus were also absolutely fantastic. Overall opinion was that the food was great, however, I won't return on my own dime. They have a winner when it comes to business meetings or company dinners. Because of that, I leave four stars instead of five. If you want a review solely based on food, this would be five star.

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for the past year and finally have the opportunity to visit. Being a high end steak joint, expectations are high, but unfortunately it's not quite up to that level.This restaurant has a lot of opportunity but has several key things holding it back.First, the atmosphere. When you first enter the restaurant you are overwhelmed with a certain smell that's difficult to place. Being a steakhouse, I immediately thought of aged meat smell but that wasn't quite it. I finally realized it is the stench of truffle oil which they use to fry their food with. My advice would be to nix the truffle oil and go back to the way McDonald's fries their french fries. They don't use truffle oil because people generally don't like it. The smell would be enough for me to take it off the menu if I were the manager.The restaurant is very trendy, dark, and interesting. However it tends to be very loud with conversation. It has the opportunity to have a fun vibe but doesn't have any music or energy to the place. Play some music, and create a welcoming atmosphere in the first 30 seconds your guests arrive.The food is good, not necessarily great. Considering the prices, I think the atmosphere service and food should be amazing. It's not quite there yet. You are required to use their website to view the menu. It is a horrible experience swiping back-and-forth from the bar menu to the food menu. They need a better solution.Overall, our food was good, but not amazing. But, I think it was the atmosphere, smell and overall service that didn't make our meal shine.A high end steak joint is a tough sell in the Fox Valley. I think this place would do much better as an upscale gastropub of some sort. Probably won't be back anytime soon, unless it's for a few drinks.

Great place... here are my reason for a four starParking. You share a lot with the hotel and when its cold, parking is a little hike from the outer parts of the lot. Getting into the lot is a trick. You drive around and eventually to the side street to enter. Don't be in a rush. We made reservations which we easy to schedule and accommodating. Once we arrived we realized it was probably not necessary but for a Friday you just never know. Id like to return for outdoor dining because I think that experience would yield a higher review. Great space available with a firepit for that. Food. Yum! $$$ of $$$$ for price points. Steak is pricy, 60-70 for quality wagyu but 3-5 oz servings. Ive had better so we decided on the lamb chops and ribeye with mushroom risotto and bleu cheese fries. It was all so very well executed and tasted wonderful. Great beer selections. Wonderful cocktail options. We tried the smoked old fashioned/mule with Neuskes bacon slab. Note the smoke is liquid smoke and many cannot tolerate that strong flavor. Its was a bit strong on the smoke. I would rather cold smoke but it was delicious. The Bordeaux is delicious and perfect with a steak and the only non California red I saw on the menu. Pricy dinner but the trick is to share as the sides are family portions. It says for two but easily could be for four. So order the protein and share sides. Service is timely and friendly and that deserved a five star. Ive slacked on not sharing pics but its plated very well.

The atmosphere is nice but this is a BAIT & SWITCH business! We ordered a bottle of wine. ( It was one of the lesser expensive bottles-$38.) After a very long wait - the waiter came back and said they "can't find that bottle". We then ordered the next step up at $45. (Now keep in mind - this was from their Wine List menu.) After another very long wait - the waiter came back and told us they "couldn't find that bottle as well." There was no apology. No explanation. We got up and left. As we were walking out - I politely asked to speak with the manager. No one knew who was in charge! No apology, no explanation, no awareness. No sense...

My husband and I are not local to the area and went here with friends and family. Our brother made the reservation and some of us arrived 30 minutes earlier because there was a mixup. The place was pretty empty but we were told by the manager that it was "crowded". They allowed us to sit at our table but told us "it may take a little time". We sat at our table with no menus, no waters and not even the offer of drinks while we waited for the rest of our party for over 30 minutes. We watched 3 small parties walk in after us with no reservations that got immediately sat and serviced. The servers didn't even as much as look in our direction and they most definitely had the time to assist us. When we asked if we could at least order drinks and see the menu while we waited, they made us order at the bar and pay with cash. We are younger, so we felt that we were being extremely age discriminated the moment we walked in. However, we had a party of 8 ready to eat and drink and tip accordingly. We were not even given the chance to do so. I would never visit this place again. The food was also just sub-par at best. Most of our steaks were not cooked the way we had asked. For the price, it is not worth it.

Stopped in tonight for a ribeye and French onion soup. Both were outstanding. The steak cut was uniquely seasoned and delicious. The soup likewise. I have to say that Mastros in Malibu could not deliver a better experience. Thanks to everyone for a great dinner.
