Truly an odd and unexpected gem of a restaurant - inside a completely random - no name hotel. Stopping in at 9pm right as they were clearing the tables from their final dinner rush, I feared we would not be welcomed, which couldn't have been farther from the truth.Yes, the prices were pretty dang high, but the quality was there... for the most part. I was particularly impressed with the variety of cream sauces - we were served at least 3 completely different varieties - and the level of seasoning - it was all quite salty. Our waiter was truly kind, and while the atmosphere is really bad, I throughly enjoyed our meal.

Wissota Chophouse is located on the main floor of a hotel on Milwaukee Street. You can access it from the hotel via a lime green set of doors with Ws on them, OR from the street. This is a very small location, where the bar makes up 40% of it. They were empty when we got there and only two tables when we left at 6, but they told us because we didn't have a reservation-they could squeeze us in. They mentioned that they may not look busy but they were about to be "packed."The server was extremely friendly. They have an extremely expensive menu listing. We are used to supper club pricing, so spending $48 is normal, HOWEVER, it usually includes a salad and a side. This is all ala cart.My husband wasn't hungry enough to spend that price point so he got the lobster bisque. He did enjoy it, but is also used to getting a little crunchy bread piece or crackers with it. This came with neither.I got the 5oz tenderloin, the mushroom medley and the garlic potatoes as a side. The tenderloin did not disappoint, same for the potatoes! The mushrooms were good, but not much to chat about for an additional $7.They provide a cutting board of bread slices and a slab of butter that has coarse pepper on it. The bread was good, but it was cold and not toasted. I'm used to regular bread being served warm and thick slices (these were thin) and the toasted bread being thin and sliced. Just threw me off with how it was served.Overall we did enjoy our meals, but it seems embarrassing to feel hungry after a $80+ meal.

We had an excellent dinner at Wissota chophouse. We sat outside and enjoyed a quiet meal riverside. The patio has some bug repelling plants with serve dual purpose of making the space look great. Our service was well paced, but would have been slow if we were in a rush. We had an amazing evening and will definitely be back!

I like this place for a more sophisticated happy hour than many of the places across the river. Maybe sophisticated isn't the right word... maybe mature. In any case the service at the bar is nice... attentive. The appetizers are reasonably priced and pretty good. I ordered the wagyu burger. Unfortunately it came well done... I'd ordered it medium rare... such a shame to do that to that quality of product. The manager took 20 percent off of our bill. I might try it again as it was otherwise satisfying and likely would be fantastic if cooked properly. Craft cocktails are fantastic. Steaks looked good. The carrot cake - Shazam tasty and plenty for 2 or three.

Beautiful interior, friendly staff, and excellent food & drinks. The happy hour (daily from 4-6pm, including Saturday) was a nice bonus. We loved the field green salad, truffle fries, and complimentary bread and butter brought to our table. The mushroom risotto was hot & delicious, and our filet mignon steaks were perfect. I'd recommend the peppercorn crust and wild mushroom medley with the steak. This is a great destination in Janesville, located in a brand new hotel along the Rock River. Highly recommended!

It's hard to make a go of fine dining Janesville. People in Janesville don't like to pay high prices for food, and when they pay high prices and it's not amazing they get a bad taste in their mouth so to speak. That's how I felt about my experience here. I rarely order risotto unless it comes recommended. It's a very delicate and time-consuming dish to make. This risotto was such a disappointment. It wasn't tender and creamy and it was more thick like a porridge and had a Smokey flavor. Chilean sea bass is my favorite fish and I ordered that. The presentation was nice and it had a light orange sauce. The Seabass could've been cooked about a minute or maybe two more and it would've been so much better. I paid way too much for the quality I got.The atmosphere was nice ... a bar that seats about 15 and a small dining room. Parking is easy - plenty of room in the back. Janesville needs more nice dining places, and it makes me very sad that I can't recommend this one.

3 stars for the following reasons, our server was great, but then again it was a slow Monday night. #2 the desserts specifically the carrot cake. #3 mushroom risotto side dish better than the meal itself. Now the bad. The steaks are completely flavorless, cooked correctly but no taste. The cost is way overpriced for what you get and can get elsewhere. Overall glad I tried it, but will not be back. Very disappointing for the cost. If you want to charge Ruth Chris prices then do better!

We dropped in for dinner after a day-trip to Cascade to ski in the early March 2021 snow.Let's look at what it offers:1. Good steaks2. Good wine list3. Good location (in a hotel, with ample parking in the back)4. Good serviceWe walked through the hotel lobby, and were greeted as we entered the restaurant and promptly seated. It was a Tuesday night - they weren't very busy - key tip - go Tuesday night! We ordered a caesar salad, which was more than big enough for two.Key tip: If they say a dish (side dishes, salads) are big enough for 2, they REALLY ARE.We ordered a BV Rutherford Cabernet to go with our dinner. My wife ordered their Iberico Pork, and I had their 10 ounce filet. She really enjoyed her Iberico Pork. It had great presentation (served on a plank) and the salts and various dipping materials worked great with it.I really enjoyed the filet - it was cooked exactly how I ordered it - medium rare, and was just delicious and tender. I did grab some of my wife's salt from her Iberico Pork - it helped spice it up. However, it was char broiled, and soooo tender. For sides, I ordered their asparagus, and my wife added on their Truffle Fries. Both were enough for 2, so we ended up so stuffed that desert was unfortunately out of the question. If I were you, and I was looking for a nice dinner in Janesville, I'd make a reservation with this place in a heartbeat. The service was very punctual and helpful. Our water glasses stayed full, our service was both prompt and polite - just wonderful.COVID protocols were excellent! Dine with confidence.
