Willow Creek Cheese

We spend a lot of time in this area and Willow Creek Cheese has become a bit of a regular stop.They have samples available and a wide selection of cheese, both theirs and other brands, plus Wisconsin honey and maple syrup. They also make a delicious lemon quark. We happened onto a cheese they had recently that was called crumbly extra sharp cheddar at a great price and it's really good in breakfast eggs. Worth a stop if you like cheese and are in the area!

This is the real deal: a rural cheese factory in Wisconsin, selling assorted cheeses and, of course, fresh cheese curds. The shop is just a room off the side of the factory, but they have cheese out for sampling, and it's delicious! There are large refrigerator cases with every variety on display. Other offerings include summer sausage, sausage sticks, and accessories like cutting boards. Prices are good and the clerk on duty was very nice. It's a little out of the way, but worth the drive if you're in the area.

So, the best time to stop/shop here is when they have cheese curds made that day, as they are squeaky fresh, sometimes still warm. As of yesterday, the "fresh curd days" would be after mid morning on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

To correct the last review- fresh curd days are Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Special schedules around the holidays so call to check. This is a family owned cheese plant and is one of 2 plants that work together to produce quality, affordable cheeses from just 3 local quality dairy farms. The Metzig family runs Willow Creek cheese in Berlin and also the historic Zittau plant on II south of Fremont- together these 2 plants form the whole of 'Union Star Cheese'. They specialize in cheddar and flavored muenster and colby but have added several artisan style (high maintenance cheeses) including a washed rind B-linens 'St Jeanne's' cheese, a Farmhouse bandaged cheddar, a soft cow's milk cheese flavored with wasabi and honey called 'Moo-Sa-Bee' which is great with pretzels and several other cheeses that you will only find at Willow. Both plants also offer quality cheeses from other Wisconsin producers such as the award winning Sartori Italian cheeses, Evalon goat cheese from La-Clare farms in Chilton, Dopplers Swiss and Monroe's Limburger- all at reasonable prices. It's a great, very clean plant run by a family with a long cheese heritage.
