Love this place! We discovered it last summer after attending the INDYCAR race at Road America. We were just back in Milwaukee for INDYCAR at the Milwaukee Mile and made a point to visit Von Rothenburg's beer garden again. Great atmosphere, great music, great food and great beer! A win all around. We visited on a Saturday about an hour before closing. We enjoyed the last 20 minutes of live music and were still able to order a full dinner and rounds of drinks. We had 2 kids with us and they enjoyed the small 3-hole mini golf, cornhole and then we all played some hammerschlagen. That last one is a fun game! And all the games are free to play.

Fun relaxing family friendly place to enjoy a day of beers in the sun German style.Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5Cost to worth it rating: 4 (sausages $6-8, pretzel $15, draft beer 1/2 litre $8)Opentableable: no Return worthiness: yesHighlights:- Pretzel: huge warm soft thick pretzel with just enough pretzel salt on it. Could tell was made and not just a standard frozen one reheated. Came with mustard and a cheese spread. 5 stars- Garten fries: like a potato chip and a french fry had a baby. Curvy, crispy, salty, and still potatoey inside. 5 stars- Some food from truck on premises: sausages and burgers. - Have a long list of beers on tap- Can get the beer in 3 different sizes: 1/3 litre, 1/2 litre, and 1 litre. Great for a non-beer drinker like me to get a smaller size.- Have 2 radler options for non a hard core beer people like me. I like the grapefruit.- Liquor: also have this if someone isn't feeling beery- Games: hammer and nail, cornhole, and giant connect for to entertain the kids.- Lots of picnic benches outsideLowlights:- Only open til 6pm on Sundays and live music only in earlier afternoon Love this spot and not having to go to downtown Milwaukee and will be back!

Highlights/Lowlights1. Friendly Service2. Authentic German Feel3. Decent FoodStopped in during holiday break for a late lunch. The bar here was pretty full but we were easily able to snag a table. Our server was super friendly, but I think she was the only one working the whole place so (understandably so) service was a little slower. There aren't a ton of gluten free options but our server was very knowledgeable. Menu is classic German food there are also burgers/fries etc. Drinks are fun as you can get the German beers in giant mugs! Our food was decent, not the best I've ever eaten but I think this place is more about the fun German vibe. It looked like there was a spacious patio that I definitely will come back and try in the warmer months.

I have a soft spot for this place in my heart and I have been coming here since its opening, over 25 years ago. That will be a small part of why it is 5 stars, but not that much. First and foremost, they have really unique German beers, that you normally can't get it other places. They also have keg openings every month. Sounds like a fun time, but, alas, I live a little too far away for that kind of fun. I love the backyard Biergarten. Apparently, they have live music, but I've never been here for that either. The waitresses dress appropriately for a German beer garden, and some have a little sass to them. I guess I tend to create that behavior and bring out everyone's spunkiness. Anyway, y'all should come here and get a beer. Check these pictures out!! I mean, how can you get any better...unless you're in Germany?

Might as well close for winter. Stopped in at 4:45 on Friday, 12/23/24. There were 8 people in the bar with barely any walking room. Inquired whether the upstairs was open and they said yes. After turning the lights on, we went up there and while there was tables, there was no bar, much less anyone to serve is up there. I was really looking forward to a good beer but don't know how long it would have taken to get one... much less be heard ordering one (EXTREMELY loud). Unfortunately, we'll need to either wait until the weather is nice enough to be outside or start getting there at 2:00pm just to get seats at the 8-person bar inside. Very. Disappointed.

New owners. No more happy hour. Limited food menu. The good news is that the place is in great shape, and it's pleasant back there in the bier garten. The very limited food options are of good quality. The bad news is no more happy hour. Good choices missing from the already limited menu. And much higher prices. (If you order a brat, the bun costs an extra $2. Kind of like buying a car, but if you want a steering wheel, add $1000! Beers (good German beers) are $13/liter or $8/ half liter. Without the happy hour, this is not a place most folks can afford to go often. My guess is that this place will be dead until people get off of work. And if that's the way they want it, Ok. But I can't afford to be a regular here anymore. So long.
