Tony's Submarine

I've been driving past Tony's Subs for years now but it's never been properly lunchtime so I never stop, but a good old fashioned sub is definitely my jam. Having had the idea of going in in my head for so long I kind of had a picture of what I'd see when I finally got around to stopping in. Tony's Subs is a not quite that. It's a bit too clean, a bit too managed. Where's the guy in the black beanie with the dirty white t-shirt chomping on a cigar butt? Where's the naked disdain for the customer? Where's the grease and dinginess? This place is bright and clean, orderly, and everything is good and proper.Our sandwiches came quickly. They were tasty and the bread was fresh. I was confused to not find any chips in the place, which was weird for a sub shop, but then I looked up, and sure enough, hanging from the ceiling in tidy little military rows were all the chips you can even imagine. So, the joint is perfect. They've got it all: hot sandwiches, cold subs, fries, mozzarella sticks, even shakes and cones! I've only had the one sandwich so far, but next time I drive by I'm going to make sure it's lunchtime so I can try something else.

The subs at Tony's are made of low quality deli meats mostly prepackaged hillshire brand. There are so many fantastic sub shops why settle for poor quality. I haven't been back in over 10 years and won't ever return.

Sandwiches are one of my favorite foods and I especially love going to family-owned places because they always have that homey flavor that chain restaurants can't seem to get. With that being said, I was excited to try this place when I saw how reasonable the prices are and the heartiness of the subs in people's photos. Maybe I didn't order the right thing or maybe this is how it normally is but I was extremely disappointed with my order. I got the turkey breast sub which was about $8 and it barely had any contents and the cheese they used was American! It looked like a kraft slice and the bread was stale. I was not expecting to pay that much for the equivalent of an elementary school sandwich. The employees were nice but they kept questioning me about the 10% off discount I got from Yelp for checking in. It immediately prompted on my phone and said to show an employee or the owner so I decided to use it but no one had any clue what it was! Perhaps it's an error on yelp's behalf but I don't understand why they'd give a coupon code without the business's knowledge. That was a bit bizarre. The employee was kind enough to apply the code even though she was confused but the quality of the sub was not worth it. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend coming here because the food was not at the caliber I had wanted from a local sandwich joint.

I love that Tony Subs is still in business. Right down the street from where I went to high school, I've been coming to Tony Subs for, gulp, over 30 years now. This was a classic place back then, it's got to be historic by now. Nothing fancy about Tony Subs. Just a good old fashioned place for a great sub on some great bread. Of all the restaurants that we've visited over the years, no question the place I have visited most often is Tony Subs. Granted a lot of those visits, I mean a lot of visits, were back in high school but this is one of those places that we have to visit when we're in town. Typically I order the Launcher with the occasional turkey sub to mix things up. Tony Subs is a classic place that always brings back great memories and delivers great subs!

I had the cold cut Tony speacial or whichever it was called with the salami & bologna.. has to be the saltiest friggin sandwich I've ever tasted.. I don't recommend that but I've heard their other items are good.

Tony's Subs!!!! Their party platters are ALWAYS a hit...guests are always asking where we got subs from bc they love them! VERY fresh bread!

Puts the various chain sub shops to shame. An institution for years. Always good and a gracious staff

I just found this restaurant driving by last week. I have eaten there twice already.I ordered a chicken salad sub and a turkey sub. Both were excellent. Very fresh ingredients and very tasty. I can't wait to sample other sandwiches.

I've been coming here my entire life. It's a Deerfield staple and I love their subs and giant cookies.
