We stopped in here on a Wednesday afternoon and had the place to ourselves for a bit. The bartender was very friendly and helpful when looking through the menus. He talked about being a customer first and how much he loved and endorsed the menu. Theres just one tv at the bar which gives a nice calm atmosphere to the restaurant space and fits better with the theme. There's plenty f bar seating and tables towards the back and a wall of booths that feel very private. We split the German Kasespatzle which was essentially a very fancy German Mac n cheese and was an absolutely fantastic dish with a variety of flavors that blend perfectly together. The fried artichokes were a unique take on an appetizer and the lemon aoli was honestly incredible!

We popped in for lunch and had an excellent experience. First we debated if in fact the entrance off the parking lot was really the entrance but once we figured that out we made our way into the dining room. It was a weekday so it was not too busy. The staff was super friendly and very welcoming. We started with their fantastic focaccia bread. Wow - light and airy with a nice crust and just the right amount of salt. I ordered the hot ham sandwich. The ham was juicy, the bun super fresh and the sauce and cheese perfect. The Cole slaw was also very tasty with a nice zing. The others in the party split the goat cheese and beet sandwich - unusual but delicious. They also tried the spaetzle "Mac & Cheese" which got another thumbs up.Finally we finished with their chocolate pudding. We all agree that it had the texture of a mousse. Very good!We plan to return the next time we are in Port!

What a gem! We stopped for lunch based on positive reviews and were not let down. The Steerage is in a basement, not sure if there is ADA access. The dining area is small and cozy and there's a good sized bar too. They have quite a nice & creative cocktail list along with good wine and beer choices. I opted for a lovely cava and the mister had Guinness.Food wise, it's pretty such snacks and sandwiches (along with specials) but let me be clear - these people take food seriously! It's not slapped together lunch meat - this is locally made bread, home cooked proteins and fresh everything.I had a scotch egg made with Bernie's sausage - 10/10. Perfect texture and not oily at all. My Pilgrim sandwich - 15/10 because I love thanksgiving. This was actual turkey from a bird, not a loaf, served with stuffing and gravy. Husband had the pot roast sandwich (the uncle) which he said was great. Service was super - very knowledgeable. I would absolutely make an effort to come back here and honestly wish they were closer to home!!

saloon restaurant right off the main strip in port Washington, set downstairs in their basement (note! not sure if had an elevator so may not be easy access for anyone with mobility issues). at 6:30pm without a reservation we were pleased to see a lively restaurant but still had a table for two immediately. I was pleased with their drink menu with some specialty cocktails, beer and wine. dinner menu included some sandwiches (many of which made from local ingredients such as Bernie's meats), nice seafood options & many German inspired dishes. I haven't seen a cheesy spaetzle around WI in what feels like ever so I had to try! our waitress was right to describe it as adult Mac and cheese ... indulgent but still felt like it was made with good ingredients. my fiancé got clam chowder (fantastic) and a steak + sausage sandwich. not typically my type of food but I thought they did it well, and at an extremely fair price!!

This (literally) hidden gem has never failed me. I'm working my way through their entire menu, visit by visit, and each time, the owner makes the effort to come out and chat, provide suggestions, and generally make me feel at home, which I already feel anyway, due to the cozy nature of the space and the heartiness of the food. Beautiful restaurant, in every way. Highlights from what I've had so far: 1853 Platter - the most perfectly fried cod you will ever have, with an excellent vinegar-based cole slaw. The Uncle sandwich - shredded beef, horseradish cream, mushrooms, onions, cheese. It's messy, but delicious.

Just ok for a basement restaurant. Ok atmosphere but food should have been better. Nothing more to say.

What a fun place. From the time you walk down the stairs and see the old photos of people on ships, it promises to be a unique experience. The menu includes a wide variety of dishes, maybe reflecting all the different people who traveled back in the day. Our food was excellent - the fish fry, plus a delicious chowder. It was busy when we were there, but the friendly server never seemed rushed or impatient. A very enjoyable meal.

What a hidden gem.... love, love, love this place. As I walked down the stairs to a basement, I had no idea what to expect, but the atmosphere was perfect. The Steerage- the bottom of a ship. Our brunch was delicious. My daughter and I each had a different quiche (she had the quiche Lorraine, I had the mushroom, I can't wait ti come back and try the veggie) ) we argued over whose was better...regardless they were both amazing. My son had the Irish breakfast (he said it tasted as good as it looked, and it looked yummy .... he dug too quick for me to take a picture. ) I had a Bloody Mary which was delicious as it was beautiful. The service was great. We will be back!
