The Corner Pocket

I had a late lunch at "The Corner Pocket" today.I remember when this building was a drug store during the years I was growing up, so it was nice to see it refurbished and converted for modern use.It's a nice neighborhood-type bar/restaurant. Open and airy, with a pleasant color scheme & woods, and a comfortable feeling. There's even limited outdoor seating. From where I was sitting I counted 11 wall-mounted TV's.I sampled several items from the menu, (which had a good variety). For an appetizer I chose the pork quesadillas. The pork had a slight smoky flavor that I liked. For a salad I chose the Fiesta Taco (I asked for the jalapeños to be held because I don't like HOT). The lettuce and ingredients were fresh and tasty. Lastly I tried the Frisco Burger. The Black Angus meat was done just how I requested, and the flavor of the meat and sandwich as-a-whole was great. The accompanying french fries were tasty (often times places will buy the cheapest fries they can, and the taste reflects it, but NOT these). The portions were good sized, the prices were fair, and the service was excellent.All in all, a good dining experience.

I love the bar! I like the crowd, but the thing I love the most is the chicken tenders. They are unreal super tasty by far my favorite! The staff is super kind and the service is unbelievable. A small town family bar and restaurant that really cares.

This was our second visit- we passed many other restaurants on our way up north including a 5 star joint in Fox Lake that was booked solid. It was worth the wait for sure! Food and service was outstanding just like our first visit. We had Bloody Mary's which were delicious, condiments and beer chaser were super generous portions. Worth stopping for the bloody's alone but food- holy cow!! I highly recommend this place - 10 stars!!! Very casual environment, staff is super friendly and attentive- it does not get better than this!!

Visiting the area, looking for a place to eat. Tried the place across the street, but they had a baby shower going on, so came here with masks on. The friendly owner seated & served us. Few in the bar/grille wore masks, including servers. No sanitizer dispensers seen. The place was busy, with a girls' night going on in one section & a football game in another. Food was yummy, service great. Masks on the staff would've been appreciated, but we figured we were in a "Covid light" state & protected ourselves anyway.

I saw this place while in portage for the CP holiday train of 2015 as I drove around looking for the perfect spot for a video. After finding my spot I had about 20 minutes to kill so I stopped in for a drink. There was about 12 craft beers on tap and the one I chose first puked out so I chose some beer with cave in the name which was ok.It's located in a cool old school coroner building in what looks like the down town area. When I walked in the place the place looked fresh with colorful walls with a nice balance of light and dark wood. The place seemed like it had a room with sections from the small bar to the cozy fire place area and the great room with the sectioned off semi open room. There was flat screens that could be seen from any seating area playing sports.While I was only there for a drink I noticed the food was the star because everyone was having burgers and wings. The burgers on the table next to me looked pretty good.While I was only there for a drink the staff came over at least four times to see if I needed anything or a menu so the service was great. I hate when I'm at what be a good place for food for a drink before going somewhere else for food and I can't comment on there food.Overall the place was great with all spans of ages from young to older people hanging out on a Saturday for lunch. I would definitely go back when I'm in the area and hang out.

Very cute little bar. Service was so so, it seemed as if they had one waiter working the entire floor so it was kinda slow but he was putting all he could into it and did it with a smile and some jokes. The food was pretty standard bar food, a little too greasy but it is a bar. I had the marmalade burger and was actually impressed by the combination of the marmalade and the chipotle mayo, it was surprisingly still a bit spicy, but the perfect level of spice. Definitely a place to check out if your in the area

Thoroughly enjoyed dining here tonight. The waiter/bartender/host was wonderful and really hustled to take care of everyone. The food was fresh, hot and tasty. My margaritas were cold and refreshing. The atmosphere was laid back and relaxing. We started with an appetizer of cheese curds, which were very good. I enjoyed the Monday Special - chicken/bacon/avocado wrap and can highly recommend getting the crispers to go along with your entree. My husband's bacon burger looked delicious, as well. Give this place a try. You won't be disappointed..

My husband and I were visiting Portage for a day and decided to stop into The Corner Pocket for a quick snack. We couldn't decide between wings and cheese curds, so we opted for the choose three appetizer and got curds + two orders of hot buffalo wings! We also each got a pint of Oktoberfest beer.The hot buffalo is HOT HOT HOT! It was so delicious and we loved the spice, but be warned... You may regret choosing this if spicy isn't your thing! My face was so hot and my mouth was burning for our drive back home! The ranch and blue cheese helped to curb the spice, as did the celery. We even asked for extra celery because we were dying!The cheese curds were pretty good too. They were nicely breaded and fried, and there was a decent amount for the choose three appetizer.Our "quick snack" ended up becoming our early dinner! We enjoyed the quick and friendly service, and the restaurant and restrooms were very clean.

I don't know what happened... if there was a management shift or something since the last time I was there. I went for drinks and food and the drinks were fine but my food was not good. I got a panini and it was barely toasty. The sweet potato fries were good though! Also they had one person working (the bar/cooking/serving) and we only got one drink our entire time and by the time we were asked again, we were ready to leave.

Bloody Mary and Pickle Chips were very good. Lack of workers, waited 15 min for drinks due to lack of staff. Good atmosphere, just needs more workers so the bartender isn't the server, bartender, and busier.
