Libertyville's Tavern In The Town

We have been coming to Tavern for roughly 30 years. It has been our family spot for Christmas dinner and is excellent. When we moved to the area years ago we chose this spot as a special plac e for our family to enjoy a special holiday dinner. Now, i am grown and i look forward to bringing my own kids her to continue on the tradition. I have had nearly everything on the menu and it is all great. I typically enjoy the steaks but the chicken and other dishes are great as well!

Took my other half to Tavern for Valentine's Day.This was our first and last time dining at the Tavern. Some of the worst service I've ever experienced at a steakhouse. The hostesses were rude, and while our waitress was nice, she was mostly absent and inattentive throughout our meal. It took three attempts to get the correct check. The supporting staff and bussers were careless--throwing our plates down, grabbing them before we were finished, reaching over us and our food, spilling drinks, and even touching the tips of our silverware with their bare hands. ZERO TABLE ETIQUETTE. I had high hopes for this place, but everything fell short.They offered a special limited four-course menu for Valentine's Day, advertised as a "deal" starting at $89 per person, which was misleading. Regardless, we planned to celebrate and order what we wanted. The dinner included two appetizers of your choice, salads, two main courses, and dessert.We ordered two martinis, mussels, and foie gras for appetizers--easily the best part of our meal. However, we had no choice of salad, and the one provided had wilted lettuce and was underdressed. For mains, we had an 8oz filet with a lobster tail (which was so small I've seen shrimp bigger) and a 12oz boneless ribeye. The steaks were nothing special. I ordered a glass of Cabernet to pair with my steak, but it arrived after we had already finished eating--I sent it back.The sides, which were also not optional, included mac and cheese, bacon Brussels sprouts, and bite-sized potatoes. All were flat and bland. Finally, for dessert, we had crème brûlée (which was soupy with zero firmness) and tiramisu (probably the worst I've ever had).On top of everything, our dinner was extremely overpriced for the quality of the food. The price might have been justifiable if the execution had been better, but given the poor service, underwhelming dishes, and lack of attention to detail, it was a complete disappointment.The best thing about this place is the ambiance and over-the-top décor. First and last time coming to the Tavern.

i've noticed in these random little small towns, people don't have the greatest pallet for good food bc what was this place and why does it have such high reviews?the steak was boring and nothing out of the ordinary. i absolutely hated the mac n cheese as well. very bland and lacked any sort of wow factor. in my picture, that's literally all the two of us ended up eating lol. nothing about this place stood out. i would take my money elsewhere if i could go back in time.

Great atmosphere, amazing food, good service! Highly recommend the steaks, the Mac and cheese, and the drinks!

I have been to Tavern several times now. This is my overall favorite upscale restaurant in Libertyville!The waiter Ryan was fantastic and very attentive. My go to dish is their encrusted chicken with mushrooms. The macaroni and cheese side dish was fantastic. The wedge salad was very good and ample for two people. However the chicken this evening for some reason was rubbery and did not have a lot of crust to it. Ryan immediately addressed it and brought a 2nd chicken dish which was much more flavorful, tender and delicious.I have tried the filet mignon in the past which was very good too.My Belivdere pomegranate martini is always on point.The ambience is eclectic, historic and very nice. The dining room is cozy and I also like the bar area. This is a great date place! I will always be back.

Not very family friendly. Went in with a child and they stated that don't have any high chairs or boosters seats. We left.

Absolutely amazing experience! Phenomenal food (we tried the ribeye, filet, and pork chop and they were all incredible). Warm basket of different kinds of bread were offered along with our meal, drinks were delish, and the staff were extremely warm and welcoming. It had a very unique style, fancy and elegant yet we felt comfortable and welcomed in jeans. I cannot recommend this place more!

My son just graduated from Navy Boot Camp so tonight was a special night. He was craving steak and I found this local steakhouse on yelp. I called and they accommodated a reservation for 4. We parked out front on the street but then discovered that the entrance was actually in the rear. The exterior is nicely decorated, but was out done by the interior. The ambiance and decor was very inviting and kind of gave a speakeasy feeling. My son ordered the 22 oz Ribeye and a side lobster tail. Overall, the food was delicious and the service is impeccable. We will definitely be returning. Oh, and we really appreciate that they comped my son's meal as a way of thanking him for his military service. Big thumps up!!

Cozy interior design perfect for dinner and cocktails, stained glass windows, professional staff. Baked oysters were amazing. Red snapper and filet mignon were delicious. Brussel sprouts were deep fried and very oily wouldn't get them again. Firkin next door under same mgt and more casual w/ many beers on tap.

The tavern is one of the best restaurants if not the best around the area! Dessert is a must! The carrot cake is the best I've ever had, the other desserts are excellent as well.
