Tamaleria La Fondita

After a Sunday church service, my family and I stopped by this Mexican gem around 1 PM. The place was surprisingly quiet, so we might have just beaten the lunch rush. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us warmly and handed us menus to place our to-go order.Our food was ready in about 15 minutes--impressive timing--and they brought it out directly to us. The portions were generous, and let me tell you, the flavors were everything we hoped for and more. I went for the birria tacos with consomé, and wow--tender, juicy meat paired with the rich, savory broth. My family decided to go for the machetes, and let's just say no one was left hungry!While it's a little on the pricey side, in my opinion, the quality and taste more than make up for it. This spot is definitely worth a visit if you're craving Mexican food with bold flavors and hearty portions. We'll be back--maybe next time we'll try dining in to soak up the atmosphere a bit more!

I read the reviews on this place and decided to give it a try. It had great reviews from people who aren't from the area... which I should've paid more attention to. The only thing fulfilling in this place is the green and red salsa, that I had to ask for since they don't give salsa with the burritos it seems like. I'm glad I checked the bag before leaving. The burrito was long, lanky, wasn't rolled the best and didn't have a lot of flavor. That's not even the worst part. I ordered a Chicharrón pupusa which cost more than $4 and let me tell you when I took a bite, it was all masa. No meat filling at all. Highly disappointed in a business that would charge that much and not deliver in quality. Yeah, I most likely won't be going back. There's a lot more other places in Waukegan with better food.

Waukegan has some secret gems and La Fondita is one of them! Try the machete al pastor or with any other type of protein! Worth the trip just for this amazing dish! Solid all around menu with incredibly kind service. We felt like family at La Fondita. Sorry no food pics, we devoured it too fast!

this place has the best food. I used to live across the street and remember when they first opened . the food is delicious and authentic. the Gordita's and quesadillas are my favorite .

A wonderful accidental find- which are the best kind. They have easily the best guacamole that I have eaten in Illinois. My husband dropped me off at work and was hungry- a search led him here. He brought me guacamole as a treat. I sat at my desk and ate it with a spoon (yes- he brought chips too- but the guacamole was so flavorful they were extraneous). Today, we went after work and I was not disappointed. Despite a recent Covid infection and recovery blunting my taste and smell, the depth and nuance overcame the obstacles Covid threw at it

We were staying at Great Wolf Lodge and found this place on Yelp. It was some of the best Mexican foods we've ever had. Would definitely go back if we are in the area again.

You will always find a Mexican spot anywhere you turn. The question will always be, is it a good place with great food? Well... your search is over. If you ever find yourself around this area or even live in town - I recommend La Fondita. I have tried various entrees thus far and have not been disappointed. Today, my sister and I are celebrating Cinco de Mayo with some piña coladas. Cheers!

My favorite Mexican food in Waukegan and the surrounding area. Everything is delicious, tacos, burritos, guacamole, spicy shrimp. Go now! Delivery is packaged nicely too.

Amazing food and great service!!! For sure will go back when in the area again. Oh and have a margarita they are made with fresh produce!!

If you are looking for flavor this place has it. The torta is made with Fresh bread. Meaning the food is always fresh. Their ambiance works for any occasion and can always count on great service.
