Sullivan's Foods - Lena

Every time we come into the area to camp, we go to this Sullivans and the selection is quite good for a smaller town. Everything has always been fresh and the pricing is quite good.

Clean, and friendly environment. Yes, prices are a bit more than traveling to a local Walmart, but the store is convenient, and they do have great meat sales. Just plan accordingly. I prefer a smaller store so as not to be overwhelmed with too many choices, and saving on the gas to travel to a near-by Walmart to save more, does not necessarily save more.

This store is fine for canned goods or brand name packaged foods. You have to check expiration dates on everything. The meats are not top shelf and pork ribs that I bought where fit for a dog. The boasted chick is only big enough for 2 people, but as others have said the prices are sometimes ridiculous. I only go there in a pinch, but am usually disappointed.

This place is ridiculously expensive. Their produce is always old and already molding. Their workers aren't friendly.

Refuse to follow government mandate and wear masks for the health of others. And when asked. The employees are rude. I am also finding that they do not carry everything I need. So if I need to go somewhere else for a couple items, I might as well do all my shopping elsewhere.

Poor customer service. Well now you have a 50/50 chance if A Sullivan's employee is wearing a mask as per state health mandate. The ladies up front will have one around their neck but not over their mouth and nose(technically wearing a mask). If you ask them to put up their mask they will roll their eyes at you, sigh and sometimes argue with you. Really?, which persons in the Sullivan's management taught these employees how to behave this way to customers besides putting customers at risk for a COVID19 transmission? My friends and I have stop shopping at this ONLY grocery store in Stephenson county that does not follow the current mask mandate.

My main complaint is their deli. They'll advertise broasted chicken. 5 legs 5 thighs for 5 dollars. Twice i've gone there to get some and they say they're out of the special. They still have broasted chicken there, but they won't honer the advertised sail price. Never have that trouble at Freeport Sullivan,s.

Sorry but I have to give them 1 star because of deceptive sales practices. In the past year I have been charged full price rather than the marked sales price on items on 13 different occasions. Of course I always request a refund or the difference in price. I have spoken to a manager about this practice twice. They claim it's not intentional. Although I try not to shop here sometimes it's just convenient. Others have shared similar experiences. If you choose to shop there, carefully examine your receipt!

Good selection of groceries. My main complaint: the checkout clerks will talk across the aisles amongst themselves when checking out customers. It's very poor customer service.
