Wow! If you live in the cowtropoloton area of Plain, Wisconsin, you already know about this place and probably frequent the store on a regular basis. Me? Serendipity! I live 2-1/2 hours away. I stumbled in the door because I went to Plain for Cedar Grove Cheese. (See my review of Cedar Grove Cheese.) It was closed at the time but a cheesemaker came outside to greet me and said their cheese was available at Straka Meats. I had seen a billboard for the meat market on Cty B, so I went to look for it.And I'm glad I did! The selection is overwhelming. The store is outstandingly clean and obviously well maintained. I have no reason to believe the shop is any different, which impressed me a great deal. We wound up with a mix of Straka and Cedar Grove products.Best Braunschweiger I've ever had. Seriously! I'll gladly make the trek out of my way (Plain is sort-of on the way to the family cottage) to visit Straka for brats, chops and who knows what I'll find next?Hint: If you're headed to the largest tourist trap in Wisconsin (the water park capital of the world) you're not that far away from Plain. Take a ride to Plain, visit Straka and Cedar Grove Cheese. Bring a large cooler! You'll thank me later.

Wow I can't believe no one has reviewed this place. I guess I shouldn't be surprised as my cell phone dosent work in this small community (population 816) I first came across them when they had a shop in Madison about 30 years ago. I was in college and visiting a girlfriends parents place when I had the most amazing Bratwurst of my life. The taste always stoodout in my brain (i'm really food motivated that way)Fast forward 25 years I'm married and my wifes family lives in Madison but my wifes family has never heard of Straka meats. Did some investigating to find that this was the same company in Plain that ran the shop on the west side of Madison. Freshness and amazing taste and flavor especially of the pork. They do not buy pork like your gorcery store does. They are closed wednesdays as thats slaughter day. I rave about the Brat's but the ground beef was exceptional as were the steaks and don't go there without getting some of their porkchops. I'm a judge in the Kansas city BBQ society and my patio is overrun with smokers and grills. I have a palate of charcoal in my garage and I really like good meat.If you like great meat this is a place worth bringing a cooler and stocking up. I prefer fresh to frozen but if you can properly freeze the pork (to prevent freezer burn and for an appropriate ampount of time) you won't be dissapointed.

Oh, good Lord, this place is amazing. Have enjoyed their products since the late 70's.Their regular / commercial meats are great...but they also do (or at least did - really hoping they're still active - haven't had a chance to use their custom services since the family's last local hunter took early retirement) an amazing job of custom processing game. Best venison sausage ever. Ever. Ever-ever. Ever-ever-ever-ever.

Had a whole beef animal processed there. They charge $4 for "USDA" testing. That is called cost of business. They were significantly more expensive for processing than other meat lockers I've used. They do box it all up nicely and wrap in paper, but that isn't worth the extra cost to me. I'll go to another meat locker next year. $130 for beef slaughter, $0.85 per pound processing and then the good 'ol "USDA" testing fee of $4.00. Seriously!

Rating · 4.8 (16 Reviews)Dbeggs Beggs doesn't recommend Straka Meats.9m · Shared with PublicStraka meats is a family owned business which is one of the reasons that I did do business with them. But after dealing with Kate my business will change. I'm not the only one to complain about her lack of professional service to customer, she even told me I didn't have covid. They do a great job processing meat but its hard to get past the poor customer service. They have to take a look at what good customer service looks like. Successful leadership and businesses listen to their customer base, educate their customers sometimes you may even have to compromise. But never ever tell a customer that I don't believe you were sick, unavailable to deliver a beef due to a world wide pandemic. Disappointed in the arrogance of a small town business we try so hard to help keep going Wal-Mart won't take over every industry. But actions like Straka meats just make it a better option.Dennis M Beggs

Have to stop there every time I'm in Plain. Great service and fantastic meat. Bacon and brats are really good. Stuffed pork chops. Sausage. Never had a bad buy there.

Very good finished product, would continue to give them my business. Rating would be 4, even 5 stars if not for the business insisting on multiple trips to pick up cut meats prior to the specialty ground venison products.Multiple trips for one deer, being an hour away seems excessive and unnecessary. In addition, i would like to see the business hours more flexible to hunters on wknds that wish to drop off venison Saturday afternoons/early evening for example... as most hunters are hunting during the few hours they are open during the day on Saturdays. There are a few places open 24/7, and when necessary, they have gotten our business instead... good thing going there at Strakas, but could be great if a few changes can be made. Just my opinion...

Thought we would try a different locker plant so we took our steer to Straka Meats in Plain WI to be processed. Their website states "There is about a 35% cutting loss on each half due to the bone and fat that is cut away." Instead of 35% loss ours was closer to 60%. Apparently they didn't think their customers would weigh the meat after it was processed. A conservative guess is we are missing 80 lbs of meat. We called to see if they maybe made a mistake and we were told "the steer had big hip bones and rib bones". We keep records of all the steers live weight, hanging weight and meat after processing. Although we were a new customer for them we are not new to beef processing. Will definitely NOT be going back and will make sure this information is shared.
