Shalimar is a small hole in the wall store for Indian and Pakistani groceries, and meat. We actually passed it the first time around because their sign is barely visible in the dark. When stopped by around 7pm on Wednesday, the first thing that greeted us was the store's distinct smell. The two workers in the store were in the very back prepping meat, which wasn't the most pleasant sight. The tight aisles are filled with tons of spice, dessert mixes, snacks, flour, rice, canned goods, soda etc. We had to tell them when we were ready to check out as no one stopped their meat chopping to check on us. The lady at the counter seemed disinterested, but got the job done. Overall, a good spot to grab any last minute ethnic spices or groceries. They don't have absolutely everything, but have a good variety.

Very continent place to shop for groceries in Lake county. Don't have to drive all the way to chicago in crazy traffic any more. I tried their restaurant for the first time and was very impressed with the food quality. The owner and employees are super friendly, i will be a regular there. Don't hesitate to try this place out.

There are very few alternatives this far from Chicago for halal meat. It is very nice to have somewhere to get our meat without the trip to Chicago. The prices are fair market prices and the quality is always good.
