Senor Tomas Authentic Mexican Food

I think the Mexican food here is excellent, and I love that they have items that are rare in this part of the country, like chile rellenos. Sometimes the service can be a bit surly, but the food is outstanding and the outdoor seating is wonderful on a warm evening.

Nice place. Good food but nothing life changing. Good atmosphere. Owner needs to work on his customer service.

Food was good, fresh, and hot. The service was SLOW and inattentive. We had to flag down the waiter to get refills after waiting nearly 5 minutes. Now mind you, there were only 3 other parties in the restaurant. Then, when the bill came, there was an item on the bill for 20% gratuity on our party of 3. I got tired of waiting for the waiter to come back and take my credit card, so I just left cash and shorted the bill in the amount of the odd change. Will not return

This is by far my favorite restaurant in the area. The Latin cuisine is authentic and delicious and it's difficult to pick a favorite dish. I've never had a disappointing meal here. The atmosphere is beautiful and the waitstaff are always friendly and attentive. So glad to have this establishment in our community.

Updated because service has been dreadful lately. It's fine if you're busy but when you walk in no one will acknowledge you. We waited for 20 minutes as staff walked right past you to go in and out or grabbed menus. Not even a "hello, be with you in a minute." Half the tables were open and they would just stop by a table and run back to the kitchen. Will not be returning until they can get their customer service back up.

The food was very good but the service was horrible. We had to go find someone to seat us. Then, we were basically ignored by the staff for over a half an hour. They all just walked right past us. No drinks or even water. Then, when they finally got someone to take our order, they never brought the appetizer we ordered, and no drink refills. They were moderately busy but definitely not slammed or anything. It looked like they had plenty of staff, too. I'm not sure what their problem was, but like I said, the food was good when we finally got it.

Beware 20% added to bill do not tip twice! Tipping is earned for good service it's not something your entitled to get. guacamole is kinda playdoughy

Our group of 9 unanimously agree to never stop here again. From the sour puss faces to the put-out attitude - never felt like we were welcome. Rather an inconvenience! It was a beautiful day so we asked to sit out on their nice outdoor patio. No! Sorry! We don't serve out there - no umbrellas and no servers!!! Would not take an ala-carte order! One fork (no knife) in a cheap napkin. No condiments on the tables. Had to ask for everything. They blamed everything on being understaffed. And each time we asked we got the sour puss again! Now the food - well the chips were stale, the guacamole salty and the salsa was watery with no taste. Most plates were lacking in flavor. The Bill! No itemization! Just a total with tip included (no indication of what the tip was either)! The only thing going for this place is it's location in the small downtown of Hartland. My recommendation - drive a few extra miles and get good service and good food elsewhere.

Long time customer ... 28 years of consistently great food and service. Their Verde is the best!!!

First of all, we are a Mexican family and I can assure you that this is NOT authentic Mexican food. It's not even a good rendition of Americanized Mexican or TexMex cuisine. Maybe it's a Guatemalan or Nicaraguan take on Mexican, but it's definitely not authentic Mexican. Second, the food was uninspiring, ridiculously overpriced, AND served in extremely small portions. I ordered a "bowl" of Tortilla soup for $9.50. It was served in an extremely shallow bowl and I estimate there was between 1/4 and 1/3 cup of soup in the bowl. Unless I was told, I would never have guessed it was Tortilla soup. It was a strange spicy, creamy, tomato base with about 1 Tbsp of shredded chicken mixed in and a bagged tortilla strip salad toppings. Third, the ambiance and service were both awful. None of the staff members were friendly. None. Our waiter took forever to come to our table and I don't think he said more than 2 words. Instead, he pointed, handed, grabbed, and walked away. Language wasn't a barrier... we are natively fluent in both Spanish and English. One of the things we enjoy most about Mexican restaurants in the ambiance... they are generally happy, lively, and welcoming establishments. This place was quite the opposite... I don't think anyone enjoys working there... and it shows! We have several favorite Mexican restaurants in Waukesha, Pewaukee, Madison, and Milwaukee. Unfortunately, our visit to Senor Tomas was a first and last and we won't be adding it to our list of favorites.
