Sendik's Food Market

I was in town having lunch and I saw the Sendik's on my way to the restaurant so I thought since I was going shopping later maybe I just stop at Sendik's instead. Sendik's stores are carpeted and pricey compared to its competitors but the freshness and quality of the meats, seafood and produce are noticeable right away. The produce department is bigger than other stores with a better selection. The bakery is also top notch and I always leave with something sweet, I don't have a big sweet tooth and I will not eat any commercial sweets but I will eat a real baked slice of something from Sendik's. The deli is also not bad with a lot of boars head products and generally pricey compared with its competitors. The deli usually has a variety's heat and serve items to put together various meals. Overall I like the store but since I don't have one close to me I don't get to them often

I gave this store a second chance after my three flower arrangements ($130) lasted less than four days before they completely wilted. Then today, I was at the deli waiting for one of the six employees to respond. When the older lady did, you could see and hear how overwhelmed she was while two of the girls were having a good time. One of which, was putting the taco dip (base) into the container using her "hand" and she spent at least five minutes on one container. Just watching her was disgusting, along with goofing around in between was not only frustrating while the other lady was trying to help me out, had another customer waiting behind me and no one ever offered to assist. I won't be visiting this location anytime soon. Very disappointing!

Shopped at West Bend today. Lady with Cain kept opening candy that had been wrapped for sale near produce. She would take a piece out eat and open the next and eat more!I told checkout and bagger-no surprise they did nothing!Just a little bit of contamination going on! Just gross.

Sendik's has been around the Milwaukee area for many years, and this (relatively) new West Bend location brings that goodness to the hinterlands. This is more of a boutique grocery than a co-op, and definitely more upscale than the Pig. I love a store that has top-notch items in stock, is relatively easy to navigate (read: small), and where everything just LOOKS good. Civilized grocery shopping. Great lighting, well presented prepared foods, and sane, low-key marketing. Need some Gulf shrimp for that dish you just saw on TV? Check. Homemade sweet potato chips? Yup - and you should try them. Organics and health items? Yup. Not so healthy stuff? That too...Very helpful and accommodating staff. Good location. Great food.

So, I still do most of my "regular" shopping at Pick'n Save because it's generally cheaper, but I do head to Sendiks a couple times a month. Their sale prices are in line with sales at other stores, but "regular" prices are typically a little higher than what you find at Pick or Piggly Wiggly. That said, the quality of their steaks, deli, and produce is much better than Pick. I do wish their meat department would offer the option of vacuum sealing their steaks when they go on sale (love their NY Strip)...some butcher shops offer this, but I guess I understand why they don't. Anyway, if you're new to the area, or just don't frequent Sendik's because of the higher grocery prices, at least give their meat department and produce a try. Oh, and their store brand Sendik's tortilla chips, frozen 4-packs of chicken cordon blue, as well as their natural honey roasted peanut butter are all delicious, and I often make a special run to the store just for these items. Employees typically seem friendly and willing to help, and checkout lines are usually very short. My one complaint would be slightly wider checkout aisles. Most people enter the checkout aisle ahead of their cart to place items on the conveyer. Then, slide around the side of your car to get behind it and push it to the bagger. This is impossible to do as the checkout aisle is barely as wide as the cart itself.

This is one of the better Sendiks but like the others the discontinuation of known high end product and incessant inclusion of Sendiks brand items or ShurFine over the years will keep me away except on Sunday for hot bar items and a quick lunch. Otherwise it is a high priced Pick and Save. So sad to see this company change from a local business to common every day grocer.

Absolutely atrocious service, and especially at the deli counter. Two people making meals and we want deli service and they make eye contact continuously and without any dialogue FOR NEARLY THREE MINUTES. There was nobody else there and that is just plain rude.

I'm extremely dissatisfied. The fish is raw in the middle. The potato pancakes were dry. The broccoli bacon salad was dry. Waste of money.

Waiting at deli at least 2 minutes and another gentlemen steps up at the deli and the woman in charge of their deli makes a comment to him and laughs. She walks over and gets one of the other girls to wait on us and the woman directs her to the gentlemen, within 3 feet of me. The girl asks the gentlemen if she can help him, I was flabbergasted. How could the women in charge of the deli, whom clearly seen me standing there before him, direct the girl to wait on him first? Because she does not have any customer service or class and neither does the gentlemen. I said "I was here first" At that point I walked right to the check out and bought what I had in my cart and will NEVER RETURN TO SENDIKS.

Amanda in floral is absolutely amazing! She stayed late to help me. My daughter needed a bouquet for Prom...and it was 3:30 on the day of Prom!!! Super impressed! 5 star service!Sherrie R.
