To first to tip on a bad experience, not how I thought my first visit would be.

That's a lot of ice in my Maker's Mark.
Empty on a Friday night.
The Jack in coke was not all ice like my MM ?

We went here for some drinks because Riverwest has some cool places and it seems like a nice neighborhood to explore a little better. Just after 8pm on a Friday night we got parking right at the front door which I thought was rock star lucky until we went in, completely empty except for the bar tender which I thought was weird. We sat down and ordered a couple drinks while talking and a big heavy set guy walks in and behind the bar to talk to the bar tender and finally sat down across from us. While having drinks and talking the douchebag had a disturbing laser stare on us non stop and after repeated looking at him, he continued non stop staring at us so we had to leave. I don't know what his problem was but making strangers feel uncomfortable was very natural to him and he was a pro at it. I'm going to spend some time in the area so I was looking regular place to go to but this will not be that place and we will not return again.

This is my spot as it is just across the street from home. The bartenders used to be great and you can get a great drink at a fair price. The tavern has a pool table that is always ready to be played on. There are plenty of local pub players to make some runs against. The place also has a Jukebox and these guys always have a game on. All in all its a perfect neighborhood dive within stumbling distance to home!

Often overlooked, the Riverwest Tavern is a VERY local bar located just up the block from the excellent Cafe Corazon. A petite corner joint, the horseshoe-shaped bar seats about 15, with the bulk of the space filled by a frequently active pool table. The bartenders range from nice older ladies with thin gold chains peeking over a turtleneck's collar, to fun 20-somethings like "Dallas", to the aloof but accessible older guy. Beer is pretty cheap and standard, with our favorite local Lakefront beers, of course. But the reason to make the weird little walk up the block to the Riverwest, as it is known, is for a couple shots of delicious, spicy, warming ginger brandy. It is very important to always drink this all of the time. Sometimes a quaff of almost equally good blackberry brandy is appropriate. Don't worry if you start to run out of money, someone will buy you a shot.

Nice bartenders. Great Jukebox. Most of the regulars are very nice, however there are some real pathetic drunks that hang out there. This should not stop you from visiting because most of the time it is pretty entertaining. This bar is a little piece of up north placed right in Riverwest. Definitely worth checking out.

Relaxing, low-key neighborhood bar. Good place to go to just grab a beer or whatever.
